We were on the top floor, and had a nice private bath, large bedroom with lots of storage, and a separate sitting room. It felt like a suite. The view was over tile rooftops, but still picturesque (it's Venice!). Being right next to the taxi/bus square and a 5 min. walk to a vaporetto (water taxi) station, we were zipping around with ease! Very helpful & friendly staff.

Make sure you hit the surrounding islands Cheap to get to, crowds are thinner, and they offer a lot of variety.

Eating authentically and (relatively) cheaply in Venice If you want to find the best food in Venice at the cheaper prices, avoid all the main attraction areas and the wider streets, and dive down the little narrow side streets - we found some wonderful little places where you didn't have to pay the earth for a fantastic meal.

Don't go to Murano on Monday in Winter Most of shops are closed on Monday, and also it's in Jan, it just like a dead town, it's nothing to see in that island at all, really quite. We wasted our precious 2 hours on the return route, that we only had one day there.
