Top Local Tips for Venice

Day out at the beach You may be surprised to learn that you can spend a lovely day out at the beach in Venice. Hop on a waterbus and head out the the Lido island. On the opposite side of the island to the waterbus stop, there are beaches which stretch for miles.

Wine Wine was incredible in Venice as it was in Italy. We found the house wines to be very good, so I imagine that the better wines were just incredible. We found a place where you could buy wine from the barrel and had some of the best wine we ever had for about 1.80 euro a liter. I imagine there have several of these places because we saw both tourists and locals walking around with their bottles filled.

Study a map! The little streets and alleys are hard to navigate the first day of your stay. You eventually find your way around... but it can take a lot of patience (and some verbal 4 letter words) to figure out where you are and how to get to where you want to be! The waterbus service is great. Of course, one must do a gondola for a very high price. But it's definitely worth the cost! We took a train from Rome to St. Lucia train station and back. No problems.
