Discover the Fondamenta di Misericordia in Canareggio If you are looking for a romantic setting for a canalside drink or dinner - not overrun with tourists - visit the Fondamenta di Misericordia in Canareggio. It's easy to find - just a couple streets north of the vast, busy Strada Nuova. We spent a lovely evening having a drink with local families on the sidewalk at Profundo Rosso (where they specialize in a drink called "the spritz") - then strolling along the quay - and winding up with a candlelit dinner at Restaurant Diana. Our advice - avoid that restaurant - food was only adequate, and the waiter tried to sneak 10 euros extra onto our bill. Still, the setting was lovely and made us feel like natives
