from danlisaLarge balconys and great staff.
A must stay!!!
Wonderful Minerva
from KathLondon_EnglandThe food is excellent and there are no burgers in sight. Sorrento is a great base to explore from and public transport is excellent. I will be returning again next year and hopefully for many years to come.
Wonderful!
from RiccioHotel Minerva: beware
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe were put in a room that was not actually in the main hotel building but in the smaller attached building (on the right side when looking up from the street). The room was horrible: dirty floors and broken, moldy shower doors, and very little natural light. No view whatsoever. It was probably the worst room we stayed in the entire two weeks we were in Italy, and unfortunately, it was also the most expensive.
I'm sure we would have had a much better experience if we were in one of the rooms in the main building. I would still recommend the hotel as a good option in Sorrento, but just be absolutely sure that you are booking a room in the main part of the hotel, or you may be very dissapointed.
Breathtaking views and a wonderful stay!
from A TripAdvisor MemberA lovely hotel - a real bargain!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberViews and pool
from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat View for a Reasonable Price
from A TripAdvisor MemberBecause we were saving money on this hotel compared to other hotels in Italy, I honestly wasn't expecting much, but we found the Hotel Minerva surprised us with how much they had to offer! The view from their outside patio, where you can take breakfast (or dinner), was awesome and romantic. Breakfast was also a surprise, as it was very good and offered a variety of foods to choose from in the buffet. All of this included in the price of the room.
We didn't have time for the pool as this was our base for 2 day-tours of the area.
It's important to be specific about what type of room you want...for the double we specified a room with a view that is quiet at night for sleeping. Also I requested a balcony. I also re-confirmed the reservation with the hotel by e-mail 1 month before our trip. (I arranged the reservation months in advance.) I also requested a triple for the kids, and wasn't specific about requirements for this room except that we wanted 3 separate beds.
Only one problem we found with this hotel was that when you are walking through the public areas, there was a damp musty smell...But our driver told us this was a common problem in Sorrento. It didn't bother us as our room, above the street and NOT on the ground floor, smelled fine.
This hotel is absolutely worth the price we paid...We paid a discounted price of around 150 for the double and around 155 or 160 for the triple, for June, which is high season.
The Hotel Minerva is located on a narrow busy street, so it's not a good location if you want to do lots of walking, unless you are willing to get a taxi into the main part of town. But we were based here for 2 separate day-tours with private drivers with minivans for our family or 5, so we didn't do any walking from the hotel. This hotel is a great location for day-tours of Pompeii and Vesuvius, and also for day-tours of Amalfi coast/Positano/Praiano/Ravello.
My husband and I enjoyed a very romantic stay at the Hotel Minerva. For the money we saved, we didn't mind the mysterious musty smells in the public areas...Wouldn't want to stay on the first floor, however, as I would expect rooms on the first floor might share that musty smell.
When I remember the Hotel Minerva, I remember pleasant, romantic breakfasts with great cappucino on the patio outside with a view-to-remember, and also standing on that same patio with my husband at night and sharing a romantic moment.
Cheap Skates 4-Star Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberI was also surprised that they would charge a fee for using the fridge in your own room! They also charge a fee for towels at the pool, I was surprised they didn’t charge an entrance fee to use the pool! With the amount I paid for the room, these additional a la carte fees were just unacceptable. I was expecting a relaxing hotel with minimum hassle, I can’t believe they tried to nickel and dime me!
The staff was not very helpful in terms of recommending restaurants. Instead the manager kept pushing me to go to a restaurant which he obviously gets a kick-back from, all in all this hotel is very disappointing!
Very Romantic
from A TripAdvisor MemberThat night we had dinner on the restaurant, balcony table overlooking the bay. Spectacular views, i thought the food was great too and the waiters were real gentlemen. I have fond memories as got engaged that evening. I would reccommend the hotel, except ask for a room above reception, it may cost a little more, but worth it. Sorrento was great, lots of excursions. Capri was fab, spent the day window shopping and browsed in 'Prada'. then sipped beer on the beach. We will definetley go back! Lots to do and see.
Top Local Tips for Sorrento
Rental Car We hired a car from Naples airport and the drive down was enjoyable. however, as public transport was so good the car didn't leave the gargae for a couple of days. We visited Pompeii and got there far quicker by train than had we driven there. Pompeii was well worth a visit and can be eached from sorrento in 30 minutes by train. Trains depart every 30 minutes during the day. We hired a guide for 10 Euro per head and it was well worth the money. Allow about 4 hours to see the entire site.
Bus tickets Always but a few at a time saves looking for a place to buy them. They are only ratified when you get onto the bus
Great shopping........... If you are into shoes and handbags then Sorrento is the place for you. Great choice of shops.
