Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Daytrip to Capri - Blue Grotto and the Anacapri Chairlift My daughter and I took a daytrip to Capri. When we arrived we took a boat around the island that stopped at the Blue Grotto. Dozens of rowboats are there to take you into this amazing natural phenomenon. It's both a laugh riot and a jaw dropper. We also took the chairlift at Anacapri to the top of the mountain and got breathtaking views. It's hard to get around or off the island in the afternoon because of the crowds (whether it is bus, funicular, or boat), so get in early and get out early.

Avoid taxis Italians taxi drivers seem to consider a great sport to rip off tourists. I did not expect this in an "advanced" western country. In any event, the congestion is so heavy that you can walk faster. The only problem is that access to the docks with baggage is difficult for older people.

Excellent little restaurants on the side streets The restaurants on the main intersections tend to be pricy but there are very good restaurants on the side streets that serve 'real' Italian cuisine.
