Good choice

We were welcomed with a 3 course meal at 10.15 pm with attentive and pleasant waiters. This set the tone for our stay. The reception area is light and airy as is the spacious dining room. The bar is large with comfortable seating. The pool and terrace are lovely with ample sun loungers. Our Bedroom was light,bright and roomy with a small balcony overlooking the rear olive grove. Plenty of wardrobe space and a pleasant and functional bathroom. The meals were very varied with plenty of choice and waiters always efficient,helpful and usually smiling. The service was excellent. Altogether our stay was very enjoyable and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as good 3 star accommodation and we would happily return for another visit.

A great drive from Naples along the Gulf. A good tour of Sorrento town with other drop offs. Hotel from the outside looks very promising, nice terrace outside restuarant, bar terrace and good pool area (unfortunately closes @ 6pm) so doesn't give much time when arrival is at five to get refreshed after journey.
Once in the nice lobby with a fairly warm greeting we were given the key to room 300, careful here no number on the door but first on left out of lift. Entered very clean room, light and spacious, good bathroom with small shower. Being a big lad this shower was a tight fit but with some shower gel I squeezed in.
Out onto the terrace/balcony NOW THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD TRY TO GET THIS ROOM. The balcony was huge with fantastic views over the bay of Naples & Vesuvious (sorry if it is spelt wrong).
Great room, great view, and air conditioned. Or so we thought could not get it to work. No problem nip down to lobby after rushed swim and find out how to work it. Aha! YOU MUST PAY FOR IT. 6.00 EUROS A DAY AND IT ONLY WORKS BETWEEN 6-8AM AND 8PM TILL MIDNIGHT. hot and sweaty after the walk back from Sorrento, this you do not need. Come on tour operators tell us the truth (advert said air conditioning).
On to meals very hungry on arrival. Went for meal when resturant was open given table to share with another couple no problem. Did not realise that this is allocated table for whole week. Food was ok this first night but a bit institutional. Terrace outside restuarant appears to be only for show as is never used.
Breakfast on the whole a joke. Toast, rolls, processed cheese, watery ham, tinned fruit, knackerd fresh fruit, yogurt, cheap cereal etc. When you consider all the fresh produce in the area, traditional meats & cheeses what a disapointment. COME ON Hotel Metropole this is your fault and not the fault of the tour operator.
Did not eat in again in the evening only ever two choices on the menu and I love my food so need a bit more variety. One choice was traditional and the other leant towards scary cat British food i.e. hospital style.
There are some great restuarants in and around Sorrento find them and try them. Don't miss out.
Quiet simply this hotel could be excellent but it lacks passion and Italian flair. Could try harder.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento
Trips to places of interest We enjoyed this location because there was so much to do and see. So much that we didn't manage to fit it all in to two weeks. Would recommend doing all the attractions independentaly
Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri, Vesuvius etc These places are well worth a visit, however I'd definately recommend making your own way there as opposed to taking a pre-booked tour with the reps. The Circumvesuviana is €3 for a return ticket to anywhere on the line between Sorrento and Naples, however the tour reps often charge up to €30-40 for the same trip by coach! Entrance fees were also not included in this price! Also if you have children or are students under 30, take a passport and often entrance prices are reduced to half price or free.
tiny little bustling streets Sorrento had loads of shops. The city came alive at night and it was great for shoes, leather goods, lace and the usual touristy shops. The local speciality is lemon something or other and there were HUGE lemons every where!!!! There were posh shops in the main street for those with a bit of money in their pockets and plenty of watering holes. The shops stayed open until approx 10.30 in the evening.Ice-creams to die for!
