Historical Traveller Reviews of Il Nido Hotel
t want to leave!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe small terrace and clothesline were wonderful bonuses, the food was so good and the view so great we ate dinner there 3 nights!! Free computer access in the lobby, a small swimming pool which was wonderfully refreshing, and a shuttle service that was more than accommodating.
Our only complaint was that the top part of the wall between the bedroom and bathroom was not solid (it was like an opaque plastic window) so every time the light was turned on in the bathroom, the bedroom also became so bright it woke the other of us up!
Il Nido ok but nothing like we expected from the rave reviews
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe expected wonderful, friendly staff based on all the reviews we read. We were disappointed. They did their job and rarely smiled. The service in the dining room was slow. Our biggest complaint was the beds. We had a quad room, one double and two single beds. None of the beds were comfortable (the worst I've ever experienced in my travels). One of the singles was really uncomfortable, you could feel the springs poking through. We took turns sleeping on that bed.
I would not return to Il Nido. I definitely think it would be worth the extra money to stay somewhere else (ie. someplace with decent beds).
Motel 6 type accommodations
from aneckcBathroom is very small with an even tinier shower. Bath towel very thin, like it was cut out of an old tablecloth. Mattress is very thin as well, even lumpy.
Free internet service between 0800 and 2400. They charge 6 euros per hour after the posted hrs. and they do enforce this rule. I received a surprise on my bill on checkout. Someone is always watching the computers.
I was most distressed about the hotel staff though. They were definitely not very friendly, even to the point of being sullen and resentful of their guests. No one appeared happy here and no one really responded to our greetings except their driver Carlo. Strange atmosphere for people in the hospitality business. We never felt comfortable here and will not return to such a hotel despite the cheap price and great views.

from PKIGHTFor the price it's hard to go wrong here.
We felt like we were on the top of the world at the Il Nido
from linnieI will never forget the view from our balcony. The shuttle bus took us up and down the mountain on an hourly schedule. The rooms were " bare bones" but comfortable and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant on the last night..everything we had (there were 6 adults in our group) was wonderful and very reasonable. The free computers in the lobby were a nice extra...in Venice they charged us 5 euros for 30 minutes.
We went to Pompei (highly recommended) and we took the city bus to Armafi and Positano (I also recommend). It was a thrilling ride!
I would definitely stay at Il Nido if I ever return and would recommend it to all!

from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Sorrento
Airport bus to/from Sorrento If your flights co-incide with the departure times of the Sorrento/Naples Airport bus, then this is easily the best way to travel. We used it to go to Sorrento but took the Circumvesuviana to Naples to return. We thought to spend a few hours sightseeing in Naples(putting our bags into left-luggage at the Stazione Centrale) before catching the airport bus from Naples. But at the moment there is massive building work going on in Naples constructing a new Metro line I think, and the walk from the station to the piazza for the bus took well over 30 minutes. We wasted valuable time scouting this and in the end took a taxi to the airport from the rail station which cost 12.5 euros for 2 people. But the Circumvesuviana was excellent for accessing Herculaneum and Pompeii and cheap! On the subject of the two sites, we enjoyed Herculaneum as much if not more than Pompeii which is a huge site and needs several hours.
ArteCard Campania The ArteCard Campania is a good value way to visit Pompeii, Ercolano, Paestum, Pozzuoli and Naples Museums. Beware though - not all sites sell the card, despite what the publicity says, so try and buy it before you visit a site. Herculaneum, for example, has hundreds of leaflets but sells no cards. You may also see information telling you about the Archeobus which will take you from site to site in the Phlegrean Fields - don't believe it - the bus no longer runs.
use the circumvesuviano use the local train to get to famouse sights, pompeii, herculaneanium, just a couple of euros and frequent thoughout the day
