Sunlounger Shortage

First impressions of the hotel were very good. Excellent front of house staff, very nice setting and impressive pool. The half board arrangement worked very well for us and we found plenty of choice on the menu and very helpful, courteous restaurant staff. The downside of the hotel were the prices - 8 Euros for a beer, 15 Euros per day for parking (we had driven from the UK). There were not enough facilities around the pool either. Towels occupied sun loungers well before the pool opening time of 9am and if you arrived any later than 9.30 am all the beds were taken. The poolside area soon became over-crowded and not such the relaxing environment if was meant to be. Overall very pleasant stay at the hotel though.

Great views but a long way from town!!!

Lovely views, spacious clean rooms and excellent facilities. Beautiful gardens to get some shade under lemon trees. Make sure you apply LOTS of insect repellent!
Food a big disappointment. Half board a la carte evening meal VERY disappointing and bland. Mini bar EXTORTIONATE! A can of coke costs 5 Eur (£3 or 6 USD) WHY???? Obviously everyone "yomped"down to the supermarket to buy their own supplies.
Talking of yomping you need to be fit to get back and forth to the port and the centre. It's a steep climb back at the end of a long day. There are some very busy roads to cross and cars don't stop at the crossings. It's dangerous! A taxi will cost you 15 Eur one way!!!( £10 or 18 USD). The hotel should provide a shuttle service. The distance is a minus.
English is widely spoken in Sorrento except for some of the staff at The Hilton! Had some difficulty placing orders due to language barriers at times.
Sorrento is lovely but if I ever return, despite the hotel being lovely I'd book in somewhere nearer the centre.

Absolutely Perfect Hotel Experience

The Hilton Sorrento Palace is a beautiful {4 star} refuge located up a small hill from Sorrento centro. Everything about this hotel was perfect!

My family loved this 4 star hotel. The decor is sleek and modern. The rooms were very clean and are the largest I have ever had in Europe (the bed was extremely comfortable too). Our terrace opened onto a spacious balcony area with a tremendous view of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

We paid €245 which included buffet breakfast in one of two locations - both with a view. The food was outstanding and absolutely every breakfast food imaginable was offered. The price also included unlimited visits to the Club Lounge on the 7th floor. This was a true haven. Here one can help themselves to any beverage (at any time of day, alcohol included), cakes, pastries, hors'devours, real salads, fruits, foods, etc. We found this such a welcome retreat after hiking down the mountain from Termini, or hiking to and from the old Roman Villa on the outskirts of Sorrento. The entire 7th floor staff couldn't have been more helpful and kind.

Finally, the most appealing aspect of this hotel from a hot summer point of view - the POOL! There are 6 interconnecting outdoor pools (connected by kid-sized slides) and one indoor pool. This was just what the doctor ordered for those 90+ degree days after a long hike or daytrip to ruins.

One caveat for those who don't enjoy walking (although how can you go to Europe and not enjoy walking), this hotel is a 10-15min. walk up a gradual hill from Sorrento centro. Being an active family, we enjoyed the opportunity for exercise after stuffing oursevles on pasta every day. But if you don't enjoy daily exercise, this hotel isn't for you.

We stayed at The Hilton Sorrento Palice last July on our Honeymoon.
The hotel is beatiful, the staff are very helpfull and friendly.
The food served in the Restaraunt is exquisite!
the hotel is well positioned for the town but not so good if you have walking problems, as it is on a quite steep hill side.

The Hotel Sorrento Palace was an utter pleasure....the food was wonderful, the views excellent, Vincenzo deserves a gold star for his happy manner and service, I could not fault this hotel, which is why we are going back in September 2004!

Excellent hotel and facilities...

We've just got back within the last couple of days and were very impressed with the hotel and staff. It's actually about a 10 minute walk from the very centre of town, but on a gentle slope rather than some of the other hotels which are pirched a mile or 2 away up the top of a cliff!

Our room was large by any standard and was spotlessly clean. The food and bar were also excellent, as were the huge outdoor pool (not heated) and the heated indoor pool.

My only criticism (not bad enough to lose a rating point though) was the room doors slammed very easily, which could be a bit irritating.

I'd return without hesitation.

Modern Hotel, 5 minute walk from centre

Stayed three nights here just after Christmas 2003. I would agree with previous reviewer that hotel is mainly for conferences. Hotel is under renovation and as a result most restaurants were closed. Rooms had been renovated but strange colour scheme (sort of Art Deco style) Very strange floor covering in bed rooms and corridor. Location not bad. A five minute walk (slight incline) to the main square. Breakfast good.
Service good. Main complaint is poor sound proofing in rooms. A lot of noise from neighbouring rooms and corridors.

Fantasic View, Fantastic Hotel, Shame About the Time of Year

Stayed for three nights in November. Very impressive hotel. Staff friendly & helpful. The only problem was that a lot of the facilities were closed - outdoor swimming pool (understandably), leisure club (there were decorators in there when we went in), and most of the restaurants (I think there were 7 listed but one was open for dinner & one was open for breakfast and that was it!). Would love to go back there in the summer. One tip - unless you have nerves of steel, don't drive over there (I thought I'd be ok and I was scared to death every 5 mins on the Amalfi coast and constantly in Naples)!!!

Sorrento a retreat and a treat

Nine lovely days were spent in this we paradise, upon arrival I was made to feel at home by the Hilton Hotel Staff, I did not have agreat command of the Italian language but this did not matter, whether I was in the Hotel or anywhere in the village or down the Amalfi Coast.Sorrento is a quaint place with a good class of Italian citizen, the town has many get eating establishments whom all serve very good value and tasty meals to suit all palete's. The shopping there is not expensive even though it is a tourist resort. the temperature was very nice for October as was the weather, every day fine with ashower of rain on our last evening. The Amalfi Coast is very worth while as a day trip or longer as is the trip to Capri.Again I must say our stay within the Hilton was great, good selection of beverages available with very confident bar staff. And the resturant food was not expensive and they provided a wonderful selection of local and exotic foods. The breakfasts are truely amazing, the choice is beyond ones dreams really.

Overrated and bad location

Stayed here for the first 4 days of our Honeymoon. Room was huge with enough room and beds for a family of 4, decorated in orange paint with mustard yellow straw carpet that blackens your feet. Our room was not that clean. There were streaks on our walls and the floor wasn't clean. No air conditioning, but the view was very nice.BREAKFAST IS NOT INCLUDED, as somebody else had stated. In fact, the prices are astronomical for breakfast (20-25 Euros per person).The main problem with this hotel is the location. It is a 15 minute walk through to the main sqare and this walk is very hilly. My wife and I are in very good shape, but this got a little old. A cab to town will set you back around 13-15 Euros. OUCH.Also, there is absolutely no charm to this place. There are 3-4 people at the main desk, but it is very impersonal. There were 2 conventions there while we were there and I think that this is the main use for the hotel. Other than being there for a Convention I would not recommend it to anybody. Stay closer to the square and you won't be subjected to long, hilly walks while trying to evade the crazies on their mopeds, scooters and little cars who buzz along the narrow streets and don't give you much room to share the road with them.

Book your own visits Lots of trips are available in this location but go down to the harbour and book your own trips because it is easy and cheaper.

Trains to Pompeii You can get to Pompeii direct by train from Sorrento for a very cheap fare. Those with claustrophobia will however not enjoy the long tunnels that the train goes through between Sorrento and Pompeii. They are single tunnels - like the Bakerloo or Northern lines on the London Underground.

excersions some are very over price and they take you to a particular resturant which they have fix a price for lunch, rubbish food they don't give you the option to eat at your choice
