Before travelling to Italy I had read lots of reviews of the hotel and still didn't know what to expect - the reviews were so varied, the food and staff had both had particulrly bad reports. However, in my opinion the Staff and food were excellent but the structure let them down. Our room was small and not particularly luxurious the bathroom again small would have been fine except that on one day I was unable to get the shower to run until someone else turned there's off and another a little later in the morning there was no hot water left for my shower. Over all the things wrong with the hotel didn't add up to enough to spoil the holiday, but did disappoint. The obvious quality of the fittings were suffering from a few years of poor maintenance which showed in the carpets of the hall ways (holed and stained) and in the state of the jacuzzi pool (holes in the tiles and peeling paint on the bottom.), "faded glory" is the most apt phrase to describe this former gem of an hotel.

I'm 14 Years Old, And Got Invited To Stay I This Hotel With My Friend And Her Family, At First I Wasn't Sure About What The Hotel Would Be Like, But I Decided I Would Go. When We Got Into Italy I Thought I Had Made The Wrong Choice, Seeing That Many Houses Didn't Seem Very Developed. Although When Arriving At The Hotel I Realised It Was Paradise! We Entered, Shocked At How Nice It Looked, My Jaw Dropped To The Ground! We Got Showed To Our Rooms By Some Very Helpful And Friendly Staff! The Rooms Were Amazing, Some Containing A Little Balcony So You Could Sit Outside. I Guess We Were Lucky As We Got One Overlooking The Pool So I Could See The Cute Italian Pool Boy Every Day ;] I Was Very Impressed With The Food And The Staff Were So Nice, By The Second Day It Felt Like They Were Family! By The Fourth Day I Got A Bit Homesick, And When Realising This, One Member Of Staff Said That I Could Talk To Her If I Needed To :]
This Helped Alot And Comforted Me In My Stay! Sitting On The Balcony At Night Is Very Relaxing With The Italian Music Playing Quietly In The Background. The Entertainment Wasn't As Bad As People Are Saying And Was Funny To See People Get Up To Dance! The Swimming Pool Was Great And Sites Were Easy To Visit Because Of Local Buses, Taxi's Trains Etc... I Could Go On About This Hotel For Ever, I Nearly Cried When I Left!
So If Your Thinking About Going To Italy, Please, Stay In The Grand Hotel Parco Del Sole! :]
Thank you For Reading This :]

The first disappointment was when we pulled up and parked in an old garage and were told to walk over a VERY busy road and upto the hotel which looked very dated indeed. Upon arrival we had missed our lunch and were sent up a dinner. This included 2 slices of ham, 1 salami (that looked like old boot leather), 1 slice of cheese, mouldy butter and a hard cob with a scoop of sweetcorn. The following evening we went down to our meal where we were given a menu to select from. The menu's was thrown in our faces and were rushed to order and no basic manners from waiters were shown. The meal was a slice of beef/rabbit with 5 sprouts. Thats it! The day after i was struck down with food poisoning and had to call out a doctor costing 50 euros. The recpetion were very reluctant to call the doctor. The evening entertainment was diabolical. It consisted of an elderly italian man who pressed 1 key of a keyboard expecting us to believe he was playing this complicated itailan melody. The man even got up to talk on his mobile at one point leaving the melody playing!!! However on a more postive note, even though we had an awful hotel the town of Sorrento itself is beautiful. The views are amazing and the trips included were fantastic. The nioghtlife at Sorrento is fab with all the streets closed off from the heavy traffic of the daytime opening up the roads for shops bars giving you a general idea of the typical Italian lifestyle! Overall, Sorrento is a beautiful place but the hotels do not live upto their **** ratings as the people who we talked to from other hotels seemed to have exactly the same viewpoint!

Was reasonably impressed with the Hotel. Clean, good food, very friendly and efficient staff. Odd parts of the Hotel could do with a lick of paint such as balustrading.
However, sincerely lacking in entertainment in the evening. Oldish man playing the same Italian songs night after night. Therefore people tended to go elsewhere after the meal. If they put on different things during the evening people would stay and they would sell more drinks. Also, a Table Tennis Table or Pool table would have been good. The swimming pool is excellent.
Overall, good hotel, would visit again.

Hotel looks extremely nice (although needs a paint job), gardens lovely, staff friendly but do not accept rooms in the basement. They smell of cats urine & damp, there is no view (windows are blocked out) and there is a lot of noise from the locals who live behind.

What a gem - I couldn't fault anything. Delightful hotel and surrounding gardens, lovely swimming pool with reasonably priced bar and snack-bar, all staff friendly and cheerful - nothing was too much trouble. Food is excellent with plenty of choice. It's a 20 min walk into main square of Sorrento, but local buses stop close by, and there is a courtesy bus several times a day from the hotel. Local buses and trains make for easy transport to Sorrento and further afield for all the delights of the Neapolitan Riviera. A real treat!

We booked this as a last minute holiday and were not sure what to expect. We read the reviews, which were mixed, but kept an open mind. As it turned out the 2 week stay was absolutely fantastic. The drive up to the hotel and the surrounding garden area is lovely.
The rooms were large and clean and although we were in a basement with a view of a wall this didn't affect us as we half expected it for booking late. Also, we do not rate our holidays based on the view from the hotel room!
All the staff, but especially those in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure to eat there for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, mushrooms for the homesick Brits as well as ham, cheese, rolls, cakes and juices. In our two week stay we had 14 different menus for dinner which gave plenty of choice and there was also a separate vegetarian and children's menu.
The pool area was clean and the pool was refreshingly cold. Any drinks or food bought at the pool (and drinks bought during dinner) are charged directly to your room but you can pay anytime which we recommend you do in order to assess how much money you're spending.
If there was any negative point it would be the walk to Sorrento, which although only 20-25 mins was along a noisy, fume filled main road. However, there is a courtesy bus provided by the hotel which will take you there and back several times during the day. If the times are not convenient there is always the local bus which runs regularly into Sorrento just outside the hotel. They recommend buying tickets beforehand from a nearby tobacconist but we found no problem buying directly from the driver.
Important tip: Although the reps offer you trips to all the local attractions they are very expensive and you have to pay extra to get in anyway. All you appear to be paying for is a bus journey and a 'guide' but most of these places (Pompeii, Herculaneum) provide audio guides. We found out later that most of them we could do quite easily and much cheaper by using local and cheap buses or trains. Also, the trips to the islands can be arranged independently from Sorrento harbour.
We would definitely return to the Parco del Sole.
An Absolute Pleasure !!

It is with great sadness that some of the reviews I have read have been totally untrue regarding this hotel. We have just had a fantastic stay in this hotel, the setting is wonderful in walking distance from the hustle and bustle of busy Sorrento. The rooms were clean and tidy with maids attending every day. The pool area is second to none and if sunbathing is not your thing then sit within the beautiful gardens that are around the hotel. The staff from the General Manager right down to the pool attendants were friendly and helpful at all times. The restaurant serves excellent food and the waiters and bar staff were cheerful and were a joy to see over your evening meal. I would truly recommend this hotel and will be booking again without doubt. Give the Tourist's Bar next door on the main street a try the people who run the bar felt like they were our own family by the end of our 2 weeks.
Pleasant surprise.

After reading mixed reviews before staying at The Parco Del Sole me and my girlfriend didn\'t know what to expect. But after staying there I can now say that the unkind reviews we read were undeserved. The hotel was clean, spacious and the staff friendly and helpful although classed as a 4 * it is in all honesty more of a 3* . However we would recommend it to anyone as long as they don\'t have any fear of crossing roads as the main road outside the hotel can be hairraising to cross during the day !

We had a brilliant holiday in this hotel with our 2 young children. The food was excellent with lots of choice, the staff were very friendly, the pools were clean and inviting. We has asked for a patio room and were put on the top floor when we arrived but they were able to move us 2 days later. We would all definately go back.

Nice hotel, but not one for swimmers

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a lovely holiday in this hotel. It is true that this hotel is not quite four star, however in my opinion, it offers a great location. Buses stop just a few yards from the enterance of the hotel and for a euro you can hop on the regular buses in to Sorrento. The hotel also lays on a courtesy bus although we never actually used that, the buses are so frequent they will probably prove more convinient.
When we went, early September, the pool was far too cold to swim in. It is very deep indeed (3 metres) and I think that even in the hot weather it doesnt get a chance to warm up fully.
Bar is good, although only Heiniken on tap and it costs €4 a glass (although thats about the norm in the area) Wine starts from €9 a bottle with the meal which is very reasonable.
The meals are not up to much, lots of Pork when we stayed, but some of them are quite nice.
For what we paid the hotel was fine, and also considering what we paid the location was absolutely ideal for exploring all the sights.

Okay, nothing special.

We have just returned from this hotel. The rooms were large and clean. The swimming pool was quite dangerous as there are no hand rails and steps only at one end, and the pool is extremely deep, approx 12 foot. We weren't impressed by the food. It was served on cold plates by the waiters, so by the time it reached us it was only warm. The Hotel does offer a free courtesy bus into Sorrento, which we found quite handy but it can get quite full. All in all I wouldn't stay here again.

t suit gourmet lovers

from notenoughtime
Having read all the reviews after I'd booked, I was a little apprehensive about this hotel. I am a single parent with teenaged daughters and I wondered what I was letting myself in for. Here are the positives:
Good location - near enough to walk easily into centre of Sorrento and within easy reach of public transport. Despite being off the busy Corsa Italia the hotel was quiet.
Rooms were immaculate and the chambermaids cleaned them thoroughly each day and picked up the usual clothes dropped by my teenagers. Reception staff were helpful and cheerful.

Now for the negatives:
The restaurant - and let's face it, eating lovely food is supposed to be the highlight of anyone's holiday - well, forget it!! The standard of the food ranged from mediocre to inedible. The restaurant cannot cope with the number of guests and often if people didn't make it down to dinner by 7.45pm they had to queue to get in. The service was bizarre - at first the staff were hostile and bossy, but towards the end got a bit more friendly, but they should have been like this from the outset.

Not enough sun beds. Nothing for teenagers to do in the evening - no disco, no pool table etc - the hotel 'entertainment' - someone singing europop versions of 'Hello Dolly' defies description.

I loved the area, but I wouldn't go back to this hotel - mostly because of the poor standard of the food, that alone is enough to deter anyone who enjoys good food.

Beyond the call of duty

I had read some reviews and was quite worried as to what to expect but I now think 'you just cannot please some people'.
Hotel extremely clean, polite friendly staff. St Agnello is a very nice town with the station close by for Pompei and Herculaneum. Walking distance to Sorrento.
What I really want to do is to thank everybody at Parco del Sol, management and especially reception staff, for their understanding of my dilemma as on the day of my arrival, my husband suffered a heart attack and was in hospital all the holiday but I was allowed to have my 2 sons come and stay with me at no extra cost.

thank god it was better than the reviews!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read the reviews AFTER BOOKING I did have grave concerns, but was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the hotel. The grounds are well kept & colourful, the public areas are spacious & cool & the staff helpful.(A problem with our safe was sorted within 25 mins of reporting.) Our room was a good size(even sharing with a 15yr old), with plenty of storage, the bathroom well fitted & the air conditioning worked well.
The dining room was well run & the food was good considering they were catering for 400 people. The head waiters did look a bit fierce but soon warmed up and enjoyed some banter.
My only gripe would be that there were not enough sun beds available for everyone, & despite a notice asking people not to reserve beds with their towels this did happen. Having said that, there were deck chairs.
We have come to the conclusion that a holiday is what you make it!

Go prepared

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read some dreadful reviews we approached our holiday with some trepidation. If you accept that Sorrento and environs is pricey and noisy particularly in high season this hotel is comfortable and staff try hard to please in the Italian way ! Room fine, clean - staff OK (our safe in the room was repaired within 30 minutes of reporting problem) and food satisfactory although not what we expected from a 4 star hotel. Bar bill needs watching as you sign for everything and pay at the end.

Pool a bit small and gets deep very quickly (watch your kids) and was cloudy but improved as week wore on. May be cold out of season. Buses into Sorrento regular but really crowded during high season. Excursions expensive but worthwhile.

Do your homework - this is not a quiet 4 star hotel on a Greek island, but a working hotel in an already expensive area. The coastline is spectacular and the whole area has an interesting history. All in all only a 4 star hotel in context of an expensive area but not as poor as some of reviews read. I was happy with what was offered.

OK - but not 4-star.

from A TripAdvisor Member
There is no way this hotel should be classed as 4 star. The approach to the hotel is impressive - but that is where it ends. The Desk staff are reasonably helpful, but complaints are not dealt with properly. The dining room is a joke - where else would you pay 4 star prices, only to have to queue for up to 30 mins for your evening meal? The waiters were surly and after the first few days, whatever wine you wanted was "not available". The swimming pool was positively dangerous - with a sharp drop in depth off the steps at the front of the pool - and there were no grab rails along any sides of the pool - just holes where they should have been! After our first week, the water was so cloudy, you couldn't see the bottom of the pool and in all the 14 days there, we never saw anyone cleaning the pool at all - and our room overlooked the pool. In all, not a bad hotel - but definately NOT 4-star.

very nice !!!

Me and My fiance stayed in the Parco Sole hotel for two week's in aug 2003 we got put in the refurbished part of the hotel and the room was very very nice and clean the maid came in twice a day. The breakfast was ok could of done with a bigger selection and the same with the eveing meal id recomend the pizza night their do once a week that was very good fresh stone baked pizza and as much as you could eat. The bar staff were very friendly and the waiter staff were ok the only problem we had is the air con was faulty and we kept getting told to turn it off. The pool was very nice it was quite hard to get a sun lounger you had to que for one on a morning apart from that it was great sorrento is a very nice place and only took us about ten mins to walk their.

Having read some very varied reports on this hotel, we did not know quite what to expect. As it turned out this hotel is fine.

The hotel is set back off a busy road, so a room facing the road may suffer from noise. We were around one side and had no problem. The hotel is set in very attractive gardens with a fountain as its centre piece.

The reception area is pleasant and air conditioned. The desk staff are polite, if not friendly. Dont rely on them for money exchange, three attempts found they had no cash.

Our room was excellent, we had a second bed for our daughter and there was still plenty of room. The room was very clean, the bathroom was modern and spotless. The room had electronic controlled air conditioning (24/7). The room was tended every day and fresh towels supplied.

The resturant was perfectly adequate. The food was simple but well prepared and presented, there were at least three choices for each course. (Vegetarians need to order thier choice at breakfast each morning though).

Outside to the rear of the hotel is a small pool, about 15M long. This, I must admit, was a bit grimy around the water line edge but otherwise was okay. Small children must be watched on the entry steps, as the last one is a big drop. There is a garden terrace bar which was enjoyable in the evening.

Fantastic Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and i just returned from a week long holiday at Hotel Parco Del Sole. It was an absolutely fantastic trip and we would definately go back. The hotel is beautiful, clean and well kept, the staff were extremely nice and brilliant at their jobs, and the food was great (especially buffet night). This hotel definately deserves its 4 Star Rating and i would recommend it to anyone.
