Hi just came back from the Grand Hotel La Pace and I'm afraid I have to disagree with the negative reviews on here. We visited the Hotel as a party of 6 (3 couples) for 2 weeks and really had a fantastic experience. Hotel was great with wonderful facilities. Staff was very friendly, helpful and polite. Our rooms were of a good size, richly furbished and very clean. Food was excellent, great selection of well presented. We ate twice at the restaurant. Nice pool area with sun chairs. Wonderful and well organized was the beauty centre. We were very happy to stay here if we come back in this area for sure we will choose this hotel.

Nice facility but most of the front desk staff is rude and indifferent. Example: upon checking out, clerk gave me my reciept and didn't say thank you, hope you had a nice stay, please come back again, etc. Hotel is a 10 min walk on busy road with no sidewalk to nearest town. Shuttle to town runs about 7 times/day. Good buffet breakfast. Seems to cater to big tour groups. We stayed 8 nights and give it a 3 star, not its 5 star rating.

Extremly disappointing! Only 2 days short of our arrival we were told that they had booked us to their sister hotel that doesn't even get close to a 4-star standard hotel. After declining they even offered the 1st night free of charge! Make sure that you organize an alternative hotel right from the start otherwise you may end up sleeping on a bench somewhere.

Very Nice, Fancy, but not close to town

It really depend what sort of vacation you want. If you are like me and want to walk to town, shops, go to restaurants and take the ferry to Capri - I probably wouldn't stay here again. I'd stay more 'in town' and closer to the sea.

BUT, if you are looking for a fancy hotel to rest pool side, go into town only 1 time a day - drive to see other beach towns and have a 'homebase' - this hotel would definately work for you.

There is a hotel shuttle, but I ended up driving to town myself and paying for parking or taking a cab if parking was going to be an issue (like at the ferry).

I would only recommend this hotel if you are looking for a resort-ish relaxing experience (and don't care about location) rather than a true tourist experience.

I don't know how this hotel could ever be given anything but excellent. Fair enough, it's a bit of a walk to the centre of St. Agnello (and even further to Sorrento town) but that's the price you pay for staying in such a peaceful, serene location. The hotel supplies a bus (I think two or three times a day) to take you anywhere on the route to Sorrento and, if you miss the bus, there are always the friendly, reasonably priced taxi's. The hotel itself is very expensive; drinks-wise it was almost 5 Euro's (about £3.50) for a small bottle of beer, but we found a lovely little family-run bar round the corner which was cheaper, and the nearby shop sold large bottles of beer for under 1 Euro (about 50p). We went on a Late Deal and we were treated like absolute royalty by all the staff, except perhaps the reception staff who were naturally a bit curt. The restaurant staff were wonderful, especially one of the Maitre D's who was a real gentleman. The food was, without a doubt, amazing; the pasta was magnificent and you have the choice of almost anything at breakfast, freshly cooked, even a glass of champagne! We didn't have a balcony in our lovely, fresh room but I don't suppose we could have sat out without a parasol in the 40 degree heat anyway. If you want a view, sit by the swimming pool which is surrounded by open hills and looks out over the Bay of Naples in the distance. Overall, staying at this hotel was magical and unforgettable and we would go back in an instant.

BEAUTIFUL hotel! We travelled with Perillo and this is the ONLY nice place they put us in! Lobby was gorgeous and rooms were amazing! We had a view of the pool and the coast that was gorgeous!

My sister and myself stayed in the hotel in Sept 2004. Superb location, great shuttle service, lovely staff all in all a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. We will be returning this summer.

Both my husband and I stayed at La Pace end of August beginning of Sept for 7 nights, the hotel and main reception were spotless and reception area while not exactly my taste could be considered opulent, but was nice to walk through and view the art on display.

I wouldn't rate this as a five star hotel more 4star (ish) the pool area was nice but food was average and expensive so dont eat there unless you are starving (or dont want to take the walk to nearest cafe or restaurant). The breakfast however was fabulous and we had lovely omelettes, bacon, toast and huge selection of pastries to choose from, however they do state breakfast is served 7 -10.00, so obviously if you arrive 15 minutes before they finish serving you may not get a full choice. We didnt use taxis at all and yes it is away from main sorrento but as with other reviewer we were well aware of this and had no problem using the shuttle bus which I wouldnt call infrequent as it had timetable and we used this daily twice a day and it was never late! We also didnt mind the walk only the first five minutes were a bit hairy on the small downhill road.

If you do want to stay later in sorrento maybe if you are dancing the night away in Foreigners club or sampling late dinner in one of the fabulous restaurants well why not its your holiday.

We couldnt fault this hotel even with the dubious star rating as the deal we got by booking direct with the hotel was fantastic, I have to say less then €105 a night for both myself and my husband b&b, the room was also huge bright and we did get a view. Dont be afraid to ask for a discount I wasnt!

We stayed in La Pace for 11 days in september 2004. The staff was very friendly, the food was delicious !! Every room does have a bath ! To go to Sorrento they provide a shutlle bus, with the last one returning at 23.30h. The secluded location is clearly mentioned in the brochures, so complaining about that is your own stupidity by not reading everything or taking a good look at the pictures.
People who complain about this hotel and its staff, must take a look at themselves, maybe they are the real problem !!

spent 10 days at grand hotel la pace in September and couldn't fault it. The food was delicious, service excellent, very comfortable and spacious rooms. It is a little way out of town but there is a free bus and only five minutes walk to the local bus stop with buses to town every few minutes.

Nice hotel, although the location was a bit of a pain. It was about a $15 USD cab ride to Sorrento, although they do provide a shuttle every hour if you can plan properly. Staff was extremely helpful, and the pool and food at the restaurant at night were delicious. Don't order a chicken sandwich from the snackbar though...unless you like chicken jerky for a meal! Again nice place, but will probably try to get something a little closer into the city if possible next time.

Disappointing

We were booked in for 7 nights but left after one night.

The booking had been confirmed by e.mail and I was glad I had a copy as we were told that we did not have a booking. We were shown one room at the back of the hotel which was small and dark. This was refused. We were then given a front facing room which was larger and brighter.

Breakfast was disappointing. We arrived for breakfast at 9.45am (breakfast is served from 7am to 10am). The coffee was cold: the iced water was warm. The orange juice was out of a machine. The choice of breads etc was limited. By 10am, the breakfast area was being cleared even though guests were still arriving. This is fine for a 2 star hotel perhaps but not for a five star.

The walk to San Agnello is not long but it was down a dusty, busy narrow road with no pavements.

To get to Sorrento, you need to get a taxi. The hotel have a courtesy bus but it runs infrequently.

The hotel is relatively new and has a grand reception area. Unfortunately, it lacks atmosphere

After the first night, we checked out and moved to the Grand Hotel Cocumella. Terrific hotel with a far better location.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento

This hotel is hard to find! Ask direction to the Sant'Agnello church. Drive along. You'll see it jutting out as you drive towards it. as you get close to the square where it is situated turn RIGHT up past the pharmacy. The road doesnt look like there could possibly be a hotel up there. Go up nearly a mile and you'll find it

Rental Car Nightmare We booked with Europcar in the Uk and asked specifically for a complete waiver to cover all damages, crashes, stolen. In Naples airport they asked us to pay extra and had to point out we paid the extra already (we had confirmation of this). Eventually he handed us the paper work (which was in Italian) and sent us to pick up the car. When we picked up the keys we doubled checked and were then told we are not covered if the car is stolen. We had to call the UK, who then spoke to Europcar Italy and confirmed that all over Campania there is NO COVER if your car is stolen. So we decided not to take the car and had to make our own way to St Agnello. A taxi was 100 Euro as we missed the bus and didn't want to waste another 2 hours. A great inconvenience indeed. We thought we double checked this in the UK - on returning to the UK Europcar still said they do not understand why Naples would not cover for stolen cars. I don't know if other car rentals offer this or not. BEWARE.

Amalfi Coast Take a tour to the Amalfi Coast, driving can be very dangerous. The roads are very narrow and you can be distracted by the views...the scenery is beautiful!!!
