We had booked a standard room with garden view and, on our arrival, they upgraded in a room with breathtaking views of the Bay. We were also very impressed to find in our bedroom a high speed data port to connect our laptop free of charge: after travelling 10 days we were finally able to check our mail. All the members of the staff were extremely helpful and polite. The shuttle bus service to the centre of town was very convenient and always on time. We would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

I want to go back to Sorrento

from A TripAdvisor Member
We really loved our stay at the Hotel. You were all so caring and so kind. We really miss Sorrrento and the entire Aminta atmosphere so much, and look so forward to our return. Vincent and Vittoria were both so personable and willing to give us advice and pointers on what to see and where to go. The views from the hotel brought a new perspective to beauty. If there is anything we can do to assist you in your continued success, please let us know. thanks again. Russ and Sherri Nester

A Mixed Bag

from jbellae
We stayed at the Aminta for three nights on our honeymoon and we found it to have its ups and downs. The positives were that the staff was extremely accomadating and made us feel very comfortable from the moment we got there. The pool is very nice and the food by the pool (bar area) was both great for lunch and reasonably priced. We did not stay for dinner there because we had read reviews saying it was not good. We found the breakfast to be awful- this was the only place during the two weeks that we stayed in Italy that the coffee was not hot- it was lukewarm and it just didn't taste right. There was no fruit at breakfast and the offerings were mediocre at best. We also had our maid wake us up to clean at 8:15am on a Saturday morning, and when we said we were still sleeping, she left and came back just 40 minutes later- so we had to ask for a do not disturb sign. Our bed was very old- it was actually two (noticeably) twin beds pushed together. We completely agree with other reviewers that the shuttle, which we thought would be a major plus, ended up being purposeless because of the infrequent times it ran (the latest drop off into town was 5pm and the next pick-up was at 11:15pm). We also had a pay to rent sun chairs and towels by the pool, which should just come along with the amount you are paying to stay.

“Aminta has great view, but expensive and pretentious”

from Heartlander
The Grand Hotel Aminta was the most expensive of our trip, but not the best. They promote their free shuttle into town, but they neglect to mention how seldom the shuttle runs. If you pay for a public bus ticket and tell the driver you are headed for the Aminta, he still will not stop unless you push the button---and unless you’re a local, it’s hard to know when to push the button because, with the hairpin turns, it is hard to see the Aminta until the brief moment you are upon it. The breakfast is big on pretension and small on food quality. The numerous waiters are dressed in tuxedos and have their noses so high in the air that it is surprising they can see where they are going. They tell you where you may sit and whether you have their permission to open the curtains to the wonderful view. The coffee is lukewarm and slow to arrive; the breads and pastries are semi-stale. And in a region where wonderful fresh fruit is literally falling off the trees everywhere, they served canned peaches and pears.

Great staff, Fantastic view, Pity about the sound of horns

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Aminta in July 2003 on our yearly visit to the most wonderfull place on earth. We had never stayed at the Aminta before but as we knew it's location we thought we would give it a try, unfortunatly all was not great. The Aminta staff are some of the best we have met on the Amalfi coast and we have been holidaying here regularly for over 20 years. The veiws from the hotel are some of the best you will get in the area. However the hotel sits on a bad bend and all the busses sound their horns as they approach. The Hotel is also requires some modernisation, balcony doors don't close properly, furniture is a bit dated. The food is OK, but nothing to rave about.
Management Response from Sorrento
Client's feedback is always very important to us and helps to improve our services.
I appreciate your compliments about the staff and the views, but it is very disappointing that you

were able to post a comment about the Aminta 1 year after your holiday:
during the last Winter the outside of the Aminta has been completely renovated and all windows

have been changed with new ones with double glazing and soundproof.

Better than expected!

from zautumn
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived here in mid March 2004. It was our fourth hotel on a two month long Europe trip and we got a pretty good rate (99 Eruo/night) which was over our usual budget. It was my birthday and so they sent champagne to the room. We ended up extending our stay from two nights to four. The walking path to town is very scary at night so you had better catch the infrequent shuttles. The public bus also drops off and picks up across the street. Our room had a balcony, however, the in-room internet access did not work. They did have free access in the lobby. The resturaunt was good, but expensive, although it seemed like most people (not us) were on an all-inclusive plan.

Pleasant surprise

The hotel (which seems brand new) is a little far away from the city centre, but makes up for this by perching on a high hill overlooking the town and the bay below. There are convenient (and comfortable) sofas and chairs on a balcony that let you soak up the wonderful views. We were upgraded on arrival to a small but comfortable room with a fantastic view. Service was attentive and dinner was surprisingly good (although breakfast was decidedly standard). My main quibble would have to be with the shuttle service, which ran on a very limited schedule, especially at night. We often had to resort to public transport (which, in truth, worked really well) since taxis cost over 25 euros from Sorrento to the hotel. I found the hotel very pleasant, but if you don't intend to use the pool assiduously and would rather spend the days roaming the seas and beaches at Sorrento, Positano or Capri, it might be better to stay more cheaply in a smaller and more modest hotel in the city centre.

Grand Hotel Aminta is a wonderful place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just wanted to drop a note to let you know about the wonderful hospitality extended by your staff while we were in Sorrento on June 2 for 4 nights. We had a wonderful time and your staff was wonderful, especially the front desk personnel. Often times people are not recognized for all that they do and I wanted to take a minute and let you know that my husband I appreciate the treatment we received. I would highly recommend your hotel to anyone. It is a very warm, classy hotel with wonderful service and people!

Please pass our thanks on to the staff, both at the front desk and in your restaurant.

Thank you.

The Aminta is definitely an excellent hotel for vacation. Breathtaking views from every room. My fav thing to do was drinking iced caffe latte by the pool while I enjoyed the Mediterranean view, people watching and 1st class service. Thanks for everything Grand Hotel Aminta!

aminta lovely hotel

from jules2772
i have just returned from a week's visit to the aminta. it is a lovely hotel in a beautiful location and the service is second to none with nothing ever being too much trouble for the friendly staff. we had booked a sea-view room with balcony and the view of the Bay of Naples was breathtaking. i felt that the only downside to this hotel was the dinner. maybe it is just a matter of taste but i found the food rather bland and did not really enjoy the meals in the hotel. nonetheless we had a wonderful holiday and i would not hesitate to recommend the aminta to other holidaymakers. i have read on this board that it is geared towards older people but i am early thirties and found it fantastic. there were several couples there who were early twenties and everyone i met loved the hotel.

Aminta Hotel, marvellous

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and myself recently spent a week in Sorrento staying at the Aminta Hotel, what can I say except that it was a wonderful week for us made doubly pleasureable by the experience of staying at the Aminta Hotel, where the staff were extremely courteous, friendly and helpful where nothing was too much trouble, and also the food was excellent, looking forward to returning there again in the future.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Do the tours the Aminta can get for you but explore on your own too The tours that the Aminta can get you through a tour company are well worth the money but you can save money as well by going out on your own. The staff of the Aminta has the knowledge and know-how of how to get you where you want to go. Thye have all the bus and train schedules you will ever need as well as the advice to advise you of where you may want to go.. a good restaurant, etc. (My wife and I went to two really good restaurants in Sorrento that they recommended. The staff really knows what they are talking about and they REALLY care too. And that's just an amazing combination to get from a hotel. We owe a lot to them for helping make the vacation wonderful.
