Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Delicious Food with Vegetables We found it really difficult to find a restaurant in Sorrento that was reasonablly priced, friendly and had vegetables. Towards the end of our week stay we found....La Lanterna, Via S Cesareo, 23/25. The staff were very friendly and could speak English. The food was just perfect. We ordered meat dishes that were cooked just right and side vegetables, which were of generous proportions. It was so good, we returned on our final night in Sorrento and it was just as wonderful.

Getting around Sorrento and surrounding area If, like us, you prefer to do your sightseeing alone and not be part of a tour group, make use of the local public transport. There is a sprinter train which goes between Sorrento and Naples and amazingly is almost always bang on time! It is very inexpensive, with a return ticket to Pompeii or Herculaneum costing a mere 3.50 euro (admission into both sites is currently 11 euros). This compares with a tour guide price of around 42 euros (not including admission!) It is ridiculously cheap to get around, on the train and also the local buses. A bus trip to Amalfi which takes around 1.5 hours (on a very comfortable bus) is also around 3.50 euros. Tickets for local buses around the Sorrento area are only 1 euro (single trip) and are available from Tabbachi's (like local newsagents) or in our case, our hotel reception. You can buy them in advance and use them when you like. All tickets on buses or trains must be validated when you travel, by using the ticket machines available.

Driving in Sorrento Make sure you have got your wits about you, be patient when driving, it is very exciting. Scooters and mopeds pass down both sides of your car.
