Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Amalfi Coast day trip I would suggest allow a full day to take the bus (about 2 euro one way) up the coast for visiting Positano, Amalfi and Ravello but get the boat back (about 7 euro) for a different but spectacular view. Be warned - winding road and boat trip not good for motion sickness sufferes (ie me!). Breaking the trip up helps. Plenty of accurate timetables available.

Sorrento The Foreigners' Club, a lovely little place on the way down to the marina. Stop in, use the restroom if you need to, get some helpful information. But mostly, just find a table and chair on the lovely terrace overlooking the bay, and order up a wine or two. Think about how lucky you are to be there at that moment. Sublime.

Sightseeing My tip would be to use public transport for all your day trips as booking organised tours is so unecessary. Public transportation is very easy and inexpensive e.g. Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius etc. are all easily reached by train. If staying at the Hotel Del Corso you are very close to the bus/train station which is ideal for visiting many of the sights. One word of caution, Sorrento is not ideal for people with mobility problems as everywhere is very hilly but if you are reasonably active there should be no problems.
