Wonderful Holiday

from j200way
I can only endorse every good review. My wife and I stayed for the first week in October on the 5th floor.

The Partial sea view turned out to be a full view of the Bay of Naples.

Only one problem Iv'e put on 7 pounds in weight. All that great food!!!

Wonderful stay, all staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Hotel was clean and tidy, food was excellent with silver service waiting, and a great choice of food. Special thanks goes to Enzo in the restaurant who insisted on kissing my wifes hand and showing her to her seat every night. Gino and the guys at the bar were a constant amusement who gave great service. We had a beautiful room overlooking the Naples bay and Vesuvius. Overall the best hotel I have ever stayed at and one day we hope to return.
As for the area, well it was beautiful.....what more can I say but the perfect holiday.

Remember Enzo - room 102 and 103 - we had the best holiday of our lives - bar staff - maids - reception staff - nothing was too much trouble - no complaints at all - reviews which are negative must be from customers who do not appreciate quality - De La Ville may have a 4 Star Rating but is 6 Star quality - who cares whether some bedroom furniture may be old or blinds may be manually operated - some people are just never satisfied - thankyou De La Ville - we will return - magnificent food - service second to none - all the staff were helpful - the sun terrace and masssage pool on the roof were roof overlooking Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples were so magical that the experience was almost out of this world - as for Enzo being a ladies' man - perhaps he is - but he treats all guests, married, single, male or female with a simple courtesy and respect which is hard to find in this modern world - thankyou De La Ville

My wife & myself spent our first ever holiday abroad at the De-La Ville during september 2004 in room 102 & everything was first class in every way. The room was excellent as was the choice & quality of the food. Every member of staff from the waiters to the cleaning & portering staff were very helpfull, & who could forget "ENZO" who was always so attentive & keen to please. Anyone who found a problem with a stay at this hotel must have been very unlucky to have experienced a bad day which can happen or their expectations were just too much. I have no reservations in recommending this hotel to anyone.

Did not have a good stay at this Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Did not have a good stay at this Hotel. Ive been to Sorrento twice before, and stayed at far nicer Hotels on both these occasions. We stayed at the De La Ville at the start of Sept 04 for one week. The Hotel was meant to be refurbished but it turns out that this is only true of the first 3 floors - we were on the 4th floor. Our room was clean but was extremely old. We were extremely disappointed as this was a sprecial occasion as this was our 10th wedding anniversary. The bathroom was just awful, the shower would not stay warm and kept falling of the wall. I didnt get one peaceful nights sleep as the road noise was awful, anytime from 4am they started emptying bins and cleaning the streets. The blind on the balconey was manual and didnt even work - we ended up hoisting it up and tying it to the bed post. On the last morning we had to be ot of our room by 11am. We were not being picked up until 4pm - so they gave us another room to move to. It was like day and night, this room was on the 2nd floor and was absolutly beautiful complete with excellent bathroom and electronic blinds on the balconey. It was a bit of an insult to get this room for approx an hour. We also found the man on reception most unhelpful, as he just didnt seem to want to know. We also found it scandalous to have to pay 4.50 euro each for sunbeds and 5 euro for the beds at the "beach" - surely this is a joke!. Overall the resort itself is beautiful with plenty to do and see. The experience would not put me off going back to Sorrneto, but I most certainly would avoid the De La Ville. A very disappointing Hotel - considering it cost us a small fortune for the week.

Good value and convenient location

from CH
Just come back after spending a few days at this hotel. Had a Superior Double room with sea view –which is worth it as the back rooms (non sea view) face a tall block of flats out of which one is in scaffolding but if you are to spend most of your time on the roof terrace (which has a splendid view) rather than use the room’s balcony then this wont be a problem. The hotel does have a sea view but it is not directly on the coast like the Royal Hotel, which is in front of this hotel but the Royal Hotel costs an extra 100 Euros per day for a sea view room! Waiting staff are friendly and the much talked about Enzo other reviewers have mentioned likes to give most of his attention to unaccompanied ladies and travel reps! Food is good, wouldn’t say excellent but good (as 2 of our meals were very salty especially the onion rigatoni! Quite a disappointment the onion sauce was more like a salt and gravy). Generally it seems geared towards the british palette as you can get a full English breakfast if you wish..personally I’d have preferred more of the authentic and traditional italian cuisine. I’d say about 90% of the guests at this hotel are British so I guess whats most popular works well. Rooms are clean and cleaning staff and porters are really, really cheerful and the most helpful and genuinely co-operative out of all the staff at this hotel. The maid who cleaned our rooms was really lovely and so cheerful. If I had to mention anything lacking it’d be that there isn’t a great deal for children to do at the hotel or any designated play areas, oh and no iron in the room. Overall, everything is great at the hotel. Location of this hotel is excellent - town is walking distance just a couple of streets away so you wont need to take a bus etc. If you do hire a car there is a private garage too! If you can face Italian driving you will save loads of Euro’s on the price of those coach day excursions!!CH

Best Hotel In Sorrento

Just returned from a second visit to the De La Ville, and the first was not a fluke! What a hotel the food is fabulous, the setting superb, and the staff the best of any hotel I have ever stayed in.
Enzo the main man recognized us as soon as we arrived, even though there has been a gap of three years in between stays. As always he was very attentive, as were Gennaro, Franco, Isidoro, & Salvatore all top class waiters.
The barstaff, Gino, Valerio and the delicious Antonio have been an absolute joy, if you fancy sorrento, give this hotel a go you won't be disappointed.

you must go to this hotel.

what a fantastic hotel. Would not hesistate to return. We had planned to eat out as we normally go self catering but after eating in the first night we found the food to be the best we had come across.Full english breakfast too with eggs cooked fresh as you wait.we also had lunch in the little courtyard garden to cool off from the mid day sun.what fantastic views from the roof terrace.
The room was excellent but did not use the balcony as much as normal because the little bar on the roof terrace was too hard to resist.sit and drink an ice cold lager after a days sunbathing.gin and tonic with great bar staff just across from dining room great too just before dinner.
Nicer staff would be hard to find.BRILLIANT

Grand Hotel de la Ville Excellent

from Margaret_Glen
Stayed in the Grand de la Ville in Sorrento in July 2003. This hotel was excellent in all respects. It was only an easy 10 minute (or less) walk to the Piazza Tasso and even closer to the Piazzo Lauro where there was live singing every night. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and could not do enough for you to make your stay enjoyable. The hotel does have the reputation of having a friendly atmosphere and this is entirely justified. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Wonderful views from the roof solatium. Would recommend it to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Don't miss Ravello If you go for a drive along the Almalfi Coast don't miss Ravello!

Volcano Be sure to climb up to the crater of Mount Vesuvio, but ensure that you book the trip early as it is almost impossible to get there yourself. Also wear sensible shoes and expect them to get filthy as it is VERY dusty!

Trips Use the train to get to Pompeii and Herculaneum rather than organised trips which are very costly. We paid under £4 each return to get to these places. Also children are free at both sites if you show their passports. Go to Pompeii early as it gets very busy. The audio guides are good value but several buildings were shut when we went. Herculaneum is better preserved and smaller.
