The perfect short break!

I stayed at the Hotel Sorrento City last week for 3 days with my Girlfriend. The hotel itself was perfect. It's location right between the main train and bus station, and piazza tasso is ideal. The rooms, while not as big as you will get at a 5 star hotel, were of a good size, always clean, and very modern. You will get a bit of road noise if you sleep with the door open but with it closed we didn't notice the street noise. Breakfast was also very good for Italian standards.

The ladies on reception were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction for scooter hire, bus and train connections to Napoli, the best options for trips to Capri, and for tips on restaurants in the area.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel, especially given the price.

We spent the first day scootering along the amalfi coast which was amazing, the second touring Mount Vesuvius and Pompei which were real eye openers, and the third on the beautiful Isle of Capri. It was the best short holiday I have ever had in Europe, and it will be hard to beat. Sorrento's location for these 3 great day trips is perfect. And the Sorrento City Hotel only added to the overall experience. When I'm back in the south of Italy I will be back to this hotel!

Nice Basic Hotel

This was a nice, basic, centrally located hotel. We had a lovely balcony over the main street in Sorrento. The room was clean and adequate. There was a continental breakfast. The hotel staff spoke English. We paid 55 Euro and it was definitely worth the price. I will say that because it was winter we closed the door to the balcony and the street was quiet at night. I think that in the summer the noise from the street would have been very loud.

Really Really Nice Hotel.

This a great hotel to stay in.
The staff are really nice and helpful and can speak english.
The rooms are in great condition and get cleaned regularly. The bathroom is very clean and contained a small shower. I liked this hotel and would say to stay here if visiting.
The Location is in the heart of the city, which makes it easy to get around, and is close to the main bay which takes takes you to the Island Of Capri.(4-5 min walk from hotel to get to bay)
If you are getting to the hotel by coach from Naples Airport, the last bus leaves at 7.30pm. When you arrive in Sorrentoe the Hotel is walking distance. It is literally round the corner from where the coach drops you off. Have fun and enjoy your stay.

We loved the Hotel Sorrento City

The Hotel Sorrento City was a wonderful surprise, as we chose it through the website. Located in the very heart of this beautiful city, we were close to everything. The beautiful piazza was only steps away. Two or three blocks from the train station made it very easy to get to. We did not hear any train noise whatsoever.

The hotel is very small and intimate. It was lovely and exceptionally clean. The owner, Roberta, a delight, was always on site. She, along with her very good staff, were always ready to assist us with questions, locations etc. Her hotel is a labor of love, and she is excited about her expansion project which will enlarge her lobby and dining room.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We would love to go back to Sorrento, which is a beautiful city, and we definitely would stay in the Hotel Sorrento City.

Great bargain, especially for a city center hotel. Only 2 blocks from the train station, 1 block from the main piazza, and a short walk to the harbor. Great base for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, etc. Grocery stores and other shops are within a few feet of the front door. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, providing maps, directions, dinner reservations, anything we needed. Included breakfast was adequate, although our group of 8 would have liked some fruit in addition to the pastries, rolls, and cereal. Overall: would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Not sleepless in Sorrento!

I found the hotel by accident while walking the streets of Sorrento upon my arrival. It is conveniently located, close to the centre of town, called Piazza Tasso. I paid 70 Euros for a single for one night including breakfast. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. I had rm 206 which was quiet, not facing the main street. Self-serve breakfast included cereal, coffee, tea, juice, bread, ham, cheese, yogurt, jam and butter. There is also a TV in the breakfast room where one can catch up on news. Receptionist was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this typical European hotel!

Excellent Central Hotel

Pleasantly suprised, modern newly decorated, comfortable beds enough for 4. Very helpful friendly staff. Convenient, very close to bus and train station, two short blocks. On main drag, shops and grocery supermart next store. Breakfast is good, fruit, cereal yogurt and bread we did have butter, jelly. Also, the cappaccino is fantastic. Excellent base for touring Capri and the Amalfi Coast. When going to Capri, dont take the tour at ferry for 20euro pp. The transportation buses up to Anna Capri is cheap only 1.30euros each way. The chair lift at Anna Capri was fantastic 7euro each highly recommend, one of the high lights of our trip.

Good for a short break

This small hotel is very conveniently placed and reasonably priced, in a town that seems something of a tourist honeypot. The hotels closer to the coast seem very pricey. Hotel City gave us a good base for two days spent exploring archaeological sites around the Bay of Naples, without the exciting prospect of being mugged in Naples itself. Hotel City has very small rooms, clean and recently decorated. The aircon / heating and the TV did not work but this did not bother us as we did not spend much time in the room and it was not hot, nor very cold outside. The hotel is directly on the main street, Corsa Italia, and this will be a problem if noise bothers you (doesn't bother us!). Main downside was the 'inclusive breakfast' of vending machine coffee, sweet rolls and as much jam as you could face. No butter. The staff seemed pleasant and helpful and the hotel seemed very clean, safe and well decorated.

Lovely hotel in overrated city

This hotel was convenient (close to train station), very attractive, comfortable, and good breakfast. It is next door to a grocery store and overall great location. We got a great deal on it too.
I used Rick Steves guidebook and I agree Sorrento is central for the sites in this area of Italy. for my taste, however, Sorrento is overrated. too touristy and expensive. aside from the grocery store and one restaurant near the train station, not many good deals on food in this town. the town is cute, but tourist info places here were not helpful. the only laundrymat (across English Inn) is a rip off. --only the center dryer works. the internet place near the laundrymat (a bar actually) is also a rip off. Three euro for 10 minutes. There is a good pizza place just down the side street from laundrymat.

Very Convenient

The rooms are small but clean and well equipped with terraces attached to them and with good bathrooms. The rooms facing front can be a bit noisy, though closing the french windows effectively keeps the sound out, but the aircondition works very well, so it doesn't get all hot and stuffy inside. And sitting in the attached balcony is great people watching, with what appears to be the entire tourist population of the Bay of Naples and Amlafi coast passing by at least twice ! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak pretty decent English. The breakfast is about average, the usual bread rolls, cerals, cheese & jams etc. The location is very convenient, a five minute ( at most ) walk from the train station and the airport transfer bus stop, and even less to Piazza Tasso, the centre of Sorrento.
The down side is no lift, so if you are on the 2nd floor, lugging the suitcases up can be heavy weather, and as I said earlier, small rooms.
Everything has a clean and freshly painted feel, making me think they just refurbished and are waiting for a re-rating up from thier present 1star status. But meanwhile, it's very reasonable at a little bit over Euros 100 per double. I've stayed in much worse 3 stars, and think that all in all, it's a terriffic bargain.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento

Pompeii Hotel Sorrento is quite close to the rail station where you can visit Pompeii and also the Almalfi coast

Airport bus and circumvesuviana train Both of these are excellent - don't bother wih expensive hotel transfers. The sorreno bus goes from directly outside the arrivals section of Naples airport - I paid 7 euros each way - a good way to see the dismal urban sprawl of Naples and the pretty side of the coast resorts. The circumvesuviana trains do a fantastic job and are excellent value - like the London underground but above ground and a good deal cheaper. Stops right outside the ruins at Pompeii.

language lessons When in Sorrento, take a language course at Sorrento Lingue which is close to this hotel.
