One of the best hotels I have stayed in over the years. Staff extremely courteous, the views from the hotel balcony, the bay of Naples Mount Vesuvious,the boats and ships comeing and going.
Bus stop outside the door,but Sorrento is just 10 minute walk. The Isle of Capri is just across the bay. It was just magical.

From the start the hotel and it's staff exceeded expectations. All staff very friendly and attentive. Nothing too much trouble. We have only just got home and we are missing you all. Hoping to see you all again next year. This should be a 5 Star Hotel.

From the start this hotel exceeded expectations. Our flight was late and so although we had missed dinner, a cold supper was waiting for us. The waiters, maids and reception staff were always cheerful, friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is spotlessly clean, excellently situated on the outskirts with a view which is second to none but only a short walk away when you fancy the hustle and bustle that is Sorrento town. The food was a delight and truly Italian. We have never holidayed in the same place twice before but this could be the exception!

Great service shame about the evening meal

Hotel Bristol has about as good a vista as it is possible to have across Sorrento and the bay of Naples. Stunning pool and terrace on top of classical hotel. Our room 911 was comfortable and well appointed without reaching what I would describe as luxury 5* standard which is what we were told Thomson rated it. Staff were lovely, the surroundings and views excellent but as for the included evening meal oh dear. While I cannot speak about the Al a carte those on half board used a different room. While the waiter service was excellent what they served up lacked both imagination and quantity. Frankly, I've seen bigger child portions. Usually a pasta starter or soup (didnt seem it was fresh) followed by a meat of fish dish. Portion of meat very small, four or five small slices of sautated potatoes and a desert spoon size portion of a vegetable like cabbage or aubergene was a good as it got in three night stay. Seems to me the object was to spend no more that 5-6 Euro per head. Then we had to listen to others extolling the virtues of 5-9 course dinners with self service salad bars at the adjacent Bel Air.

Its a fantastic place to spend a holiday. We have just spent our 5th holiday there.....sad but true. We met a really nice guy there about six years ago by the name of "BING".....he has a story to tell for every occasion so if you do go to the Bristol be sure to seek him out. Apparently he spends most of his time there..... The world is a big place but when u have visited Italy you will probably get the bug as well. You just have to keep returning! The views from the hotel are truly magnificent. The service is excellent and the food is pretty excellent too. Infact dont take my word for it....go there and experience what can only be described as a very chilling experience in a fab hotel with fab service and fab staff.

Wonderful Bristol in charming Sorrento has become our first choice

As a TV news reporter I have travelled a lot and stayed at many good hotels. To my family and myself however Hotel Bristol in Sorrento has become our favourite hotel in any season. We have visited the hotel several times the last few years (last time two weeks summer vacation in July 2004), we have stayed there in autumn, spring, at Easter and in summer.
If possible we would gladly double its four stars of standards!

Hotel Bristol's enthusiastic and generous manager is a genuine host. He's obviously a skilfull leader of the hotel's extremely friendly and professional staff. They all manage to give the hotel's life a personal touch.

No matter the occasion the receptionists are always there to assist you, early and late. The hotel's restaurant offers a variety of dishes and choice of wine, served in a noble and "stylish" manner, all in an elegant Italian atmosphere.
The service is superb!!

Every night the hotel offers live music in the beautifully decorated bar with its romantic terrace. In addition musicians and a vocalist of top quality come to weekly galla dinner.

We really adore Bristol's spacious terrace with sunloungers and the most stunning view! And we enjoy the lovely pool where you can glance at the top of Vesuvius while you swim, and you may feel as though the Bay of Naples is extending the pool's own glittering water!

Our delicate room is always being kept totally clean, nice and pleasant. A balcony with its breathtaking view gives us magical moments both day and night! From here you can watch the magestic Vesuvius as well as nearly all Sorrento, the old and the new part, and the peculiar cliffs and hills typical for this part of Italy.

The hotel offers gym and excercise facilities and even a stroll in its own very romantic garden.

With its beauty, both in- and outside the hotel, Bristol has it all! We certainly recommend Hotel Bristol, Sorrento, to others.

A room with no view

We have just returned this weekend having stayed for two weeks at the Hotel Bristol. Our room was at the back of the Hotel with not much of a view. Consequently, we never heard any traffic noise the whole time we were there which was a bonus considering you can normally hear car horns all over Italy 24/7. We thought the hotel clean and well maintained. All the staff around the hotel were helpful, polite and looked as if they thoroughly enjoyed their work. The menu was very varied and the food was of a high standard for the whole of our stay. 1 drawback was the slamming of doors echoing through the hotel at night & early morning. The view from the restaurants and the bar of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius were stunning. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing time indeed.

The views are even better than the Lights of Belfast!!!

We stayed for one week in the Bristol, in June04 for our Honeymoon.
The views turly are magical, the staff extremely friendly, and the pool area, extremely clean and cool.
The food in Sorrento itself, is not as expensive as I had previously thought, and we had the nicest food and wine than any other holiday.
If I was looking for something negative to say, the dinners in the hotel compared to the restaurants in Sorrento, were very average.
However, there is no doubt we will be back to the Bristol again next year.

We stayed at the Bristol Hotel in July 2004 for our honeymoon. The hotel was fabulous, the views, staff, food, all excellent. I could not fault this hotel. We are going back for our 1st wedding anniversary, we loved it so much.

I took my mum who is an active 86 year old and I was concerned from previous reports about the position of the hotel being on a dangerous bend and up the hill above the town. Yes, you do step straight out of the hotel but there is a crosssing directly outside. The Bristol is on the best side of town and enjoys the most incredible views from all rooms and the rooftop pool but its not for children or those with mobility problems. We had to take a taxi from the bottom of the hill back to the hotel, it was 9 euros! The staff have built up an excellent reputation for their friendliness, service and helpful attitude. Food was good and varied, unusually for Italy vegetarians are catered for. The guests were 90% British couples, very few children but understandably lots of repeat business. I'd return and have recommended it for a friend's honeymoon.

Not so great view and not so great service

Where to start. I checked into this hotel as a part of a tour group. As I was on this tour alone, I paid for a single room (with an added single supplement). The porter lead me to my room which was absolutely horrifying. Dark, dingy, greyish blue walls. 1970's era dark wood chintzy furnishing. A bed that would barely accomodate a toddler. A chintzy rotary phone. I proceeded to open the dingy curtains to see the view. To add insult to injury, THERE WAS NO VIEW! The window was literally 2 feet away from a cliff face so the view from my window consisted of a gray rock face as far up and as far across as the eye could see. In terms of room quality, I would rank the room no higher than a basic dumpy youth hostel! I assumed that a couple I had met in my tour group would have similar accomodations. However, when I went upstairs to their room to meet them for dinner, I discovered a room dramatically opposite of mine. Bright golds and reds. A beautiful balcony with a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples. I immediately went downstairs to the front desk to ask for an upgrade to a double room. I told them I would pay the price difference between the single and double room. The manager at the front desk was extremely abrasive and told me that the hotel was completely booked, when I told him I would pay the difference, he went in the back and started whispering for several minutes then came back and said there was nothing he could do to help me and that the hotel was completely booked. However, I came to find out that the couple I was traveling with had booked the tour less than 24 hours before (I had booked several months in advance) so I was completely bewildered as to how they could have been completely booked within less than 24 hours and how this couple got such fine accomodations with such last minute booking. The fact that this manager was whispering in the back of the office was also highly suspicious particularly since I had just given him my US passport (the couple I was traveling with were Australian). Anti-americanism? You decide......In any case, be forewarned if you are traveling alone, there is a very strong possibility that you will be relegated to the dumpiest, frumpiest, low end youth hostel accomodations you can imagine. Not to mention the fact that the hotel does not provide irons. I called for one and was told there was a dry cleaning service every morning and no irons are provided. I asked them what I was supposed to do in the mean time since I couldn't wait till the morning and I needed to iron clothes for dinner, they had no suggestions.

The Bristol is great, even off season (we were there in December). There are very fancy hotels in town and this one seems so much more comfortable. The staff is great and it looks like they have amazing facilities in the warm season.

I stayed at the hotel for a week lin May 2004. I think the rave reviews I have read really indicate that the writers have never stayed at a really good hotel. My room was small with no view and two lifts and a long walk from the entrance and the food was pretty boring and served with everything already plated. The staff were good but the hotel overrall was only ordinary.

A Wonderful Honeymoon

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol for honeymoon in April 2004 and had a wonderful, romantic time.
The room was quiet, clean and the maid designed swans and hearts etc with the towels and left them on our bed for us each day. The food was fantastic and plentiful with a good choice.
What can one say about the views? Stunning, romantic, heavenly and serene. From our balcony we were able to look towards Naples, Pompeii, Herculaneum etc and had a wonderful view of Vesuvius. The balcony was very large and we even had our own sunloungers on the balcony!
We would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone but most especially honeymooners and young lovers.

Top Local Tips for Sorrento

can take a taxi but not necessary We took a taxi from the circumvesuvia to the hotel when we got there and realized it was not that bad a walk. and it is tremendously beautiful to do so. we carried/walked with our 2 year old and the 7 year old was fine walking back and forth from the circumvesu. to go to and from the naples train and again to leave for pompeii for the day. we also took the bus to amalfi- get your dramamine. sorrento truly was convenient in terms of being able to get to everywhere easily. I thought I'd settled by staying there instead of amalfi or positano- until i go tto the hotel. We truly can't wait to return. built into the cliff, there were no others anything like it.

Pompeii Do get a guide if you visit Pompeii. It makes a good experience great. Well worth the money.

Capri - Hydrafoil We went on a day that started out raining, we couldn't get a cab or a bus to the docks, therefore we walked, and walked, and walked. We finally got to the port, to get on the "hydrafoil" that never was able to "hydrafoil" because the waves were horrible., crashing over the front of the boat, there were barf bags flying everywhere, and tons of people got really really sick. I took a bonine, so I was find. Capri was beautiful for the two hours we were there, the sun actually came out, but talk about a tourist trap, everything is doulble the price, and the shopping is outragous. The best part about Capri was the view from AnaCapri. We couldn't do the blue lagoon, seas too rough, and couldn't do the chair lift because of the Thunderstorm. Shopping and eating was all there was to see and do.
