Historical Traveller Reviews of Antiche Mura Hotel

Nice hotel but...

from drostron5
This is a great hotel if you're happy to put up without:
1) Room service
2) A view of the fantastic bay of naples
3) An evening bar
4) A heated pool

The plus points of the hotel are:
1) Helpful staff
2) Lovely breakfast room and patio
3) Nice pool area and pool bar
4) Seconds from the centre of town
5) Nice rooms

One bad point is that our room had a view of a large multi-storey car park (under construction) and suffered a little from traffic noise.

t wait to return

from UK0AP
My husband and I have just returned from a perfect week at the Antiche Mura. I was a bit worried about staying there as all the reviews had been so good, I felt I could only be disappointed if our experience did not live up to the dream. We had a Junior Suite and this was situated on the 3rd floor with a large balcony along the front and side. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean - (sheets changed every day, towels twice a day, room cleaned twice a day, fluffy towelling robes and slippers - luxury!). All the staff, without exception, were pleasant, helpful and efficient. Could I make it better? Difficult, but, a choice of pillows would have been good, down or synthetic, only synthetic in the room. Freshly squeezed juice at breakfast and maybe omeletts and pancakes cooked to order would have been a treat. However, the choice of cakes, breads, fruit, meats, cheese etc. etc. were wonderful. I particularly liked the rather dull looking local lemon cake and chocolate cake, the strawberry and raspberry flans were good too, I could carry on for a very long time, but just treat yourself to a visit, you will not be disappointed. The local restaurants we visited on the advice of the reception staff were also wonderful, so you get the best of both worlds. A comfortable, clean hotel with a lovely pool set in a garden full of lemon trees - just a stones throw away from the bustle of the town. I can't wait to return.

Just a great place to stay

from steeljam
We had booked in to the Flora in Sorrento but on arrival were told we were being moved into the Antiche Mura. We were a bit concerned until we saw the hotel. I takes its name from the ancient city wall near where it is located. It is fitted into an odd shaped area between a gorge and another hotel.

All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was buffet style with a large selection to please both European, American and British tastes. The hotel only did Bed and Breakfast.

The hotel is situated about 100 metres from the main square, Tasso, in a quietish side road, overlooking a deep gorge where the ruins of a watermill can be seen. The building is clean and bright being only a couple of years old. The gardens which contains the pool are well laid out and attractive. The pool is not large and is between 1 and 1.4 mts deep. Ideal for kids. Drinks and snacks can be obtianed from a small building close to the pool during hte day.

Our room was on the second floor and turned out to have its own prviate patio which was a great bonus. The room did not have any tea making facilities, but this seems common for Italian hotels.

My only complaint is that there was not a seating area within the hotel where you could sit and drink while waiting for friends.

An Absolutely Beautiful Hotel!

The Hotel Antiche Mura provided me the best service I have ever received at a Hotel.

From the gracious staff to the beautiful rooms... everything was outstanding!

I would definitely go back again and would recommend it to anyone!

The Best!!!

I have been to Sorrento a few times before, but I had yet to discover the gem that is Hotel Antiche Mura! I was already enticed by the photos on the internet, and I have to say I was more than happy when I arrived to see how beautiful, clean, and calming the hotel is. And the staff is above 5 star in terms of service- Felice, Michele, Antonio, Assunta, and all the other staff members were extremely friendly and helpful. Each time we walked in the door, even if just to pass through the lobby to go to our room, they came out of the office to say hello and ask how our day was. Felice and Antonio even arranged for us to be picked up by their friend and taken to his restaurant in the hills where we had a fabulous seafood meal and were danced around the kitchen by the chef! I highly, highly recommend staying at this hotel for any visit to the Amalfi Coast.

More than 4 ****

From the moment we walked in the door we were more than pleased. Beautiful lobby and a very, very welcoming front desk staff. Throughout our week long stay they never failed to go the extra mile with service.
They were very knowledgeable and always had time to help. Gave great recommendations for resturants. Our room was perfect. Wonderful multi-head shower. Balcony with table and chairs overlooking the garden. The bed was most comfortable, room was spacious and very nicely decorated.
The breakfast buffet was something to look forward to each morning. A wonderful selection of everything you could want. We would highly recommend this Hotel to everyone and will look forward to a return visit ourselves. Much more than a four star hotel.

Fantastic

from weirdfish
After reading so many good reviews of this hotel it would be easy for the reality to be a bit of a let down, however, the Antiche Mura exceeded our expectations. The whole hotel has a very classy look about it and our comfort room was lovely, with views over the ravine.

The location is superb for the centre of Sorrento and yet suffered none of the noise associated with such a position. There are obviously no sea views but if, like me you are unwilling to pay the, in some cases obscene, supplements asked by cliff top hotels for the view of the bay, then look no further than the Antiche Mura. You will not be disappointed.

There is no restaurant, but as I shy away from half board preferring to sample a variety of restaurants, this was more of a plus point for me. The breakfast room, with its extensive array of pastries, as well as the usual continental breakfast fare, had all you could want to start your day.

My thanks to the staff for adding to our wonderful stay in Sorrento.

Just wonderful!!

This a most excellent hotel.Situated just round the corner from the bustling Piazza Tasso. The entrance lobby is impressive and the welcome you receive from ALL the staff is unsurpassed. The rooms are a good size and all facilities are at hand. The breakfast room is attractive with views of the lemon trees which are in the garden. I have visited the Antiche Mura twice, once in November and again this April. The first time I had my Son, daughter -in-law and grandchildren with me, and the second time I went with a friend. The hotel suited all the age ranges from 5 years old to 61. It was so good that I am planning to stay, again, at the Antiche Mura, in the very near future. Whenever you stay you will not be disappointed.
It is a quiet hotel and just right for relaxing after a day spent sight-seeing.

Favorite hotel of entire trip

from Toonces
We stayed two nights here, early March 05. Found the hotel to be just as wonderful as described by tripadvisor users. Paid $250/night for a triple. We walked the three blocks from the train station. Beautiful marble lobby; efficient and pleasant desk staff; spacious, clean room and bath with view of the cliff drop-off and ancient fort/mill? below. Especially lovely was the spacious glassed breakfast room with aqua linen tablecloths looking out to the large garden with its orange tree, amphoras, and hillside view. The breakfast was the best we had in two weeks in Italy, the large number of cakes and other pastries were fresh, especially loved the local limon cake. No ocean view, but we saw plenty of the ocean in our sightseeing and decided we just wanted to be comfortable in our hotel room at the end of a long day in Pompeii.
We bought a bottle of wine at a shop around the corner and shared it in the empty beautiful breakfast room for our own private happy hour while watching a storm move in. One of our favorite moments on this trip. Will definitely stay here again if lucky enough to return to Sorrento.
