A beautiful secluded spot & good value for money. Although difficult to find by car once you are there the surroundings are relaxing, service good and rooms immaculate. I would recommend it. It is a bit of a trek to the old part of town and probably easier to drive to the tourist escalators.

A little slice of paradise!

I cannot begin to say enough great things about this place. We had been to London, Rome, Borgo Grandaie, then Florence so we were exhilerated to hear birds chirping in the morning! This hotel and city was the absolute highlight of our trip. We stayed 3 nights with our 2 teen kids. They were able to run around and blow off some cooped up steam from the previous cities! In hindsight, I am wishing we stayed longer and skipped Florence....... but we will NO QUESTION be back!

Having the grocery store there (and what a place that is!) was exceptional for us. We loved eating simple for a few days. We rented a car and drove to the coast (Castiglione, very nice), and spent time driving through the wine/olive region of the Tuscan Hills. You can easily get a bus or cab into Town, a bit of a walk, but if you like hiking, you can do it.

Siena is such a wonderful place to us. The Borgo Grandaie was super! The furnishings are special, the linens great, bathrooms spotless, kitchen was well equipped, staff were very kind and helpful at any time. We welcomed the chance to do our laundry and loved the dryer racks, it felt like we were natives, hanging our wash out!!!

Don't miss this great place! A top notch accomodation, truly! 5 Stars!

A very nice hotel with beautiful grounds, and generally quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was impressive. Its very close to the train station, but it might be a hike to walk up the hill.

This is a very nice, recently renovated, property. We visited this property on the second last weekend of August 2004.

LOCATION: We had a rental car, and so found it easy to get to Siena. Parking around Siena was not too difficult. Please ask the hotel for exact directions as we had difficulty finding small or non-existent street-signs in the dark. After crossing the railway bridge, there is a small roundabout in front of you. Take a hard right, the Co-op (large store which looks like a warehouse) will now be on your left. Follow the little road around the Co-op, keeping the shop on your left, and continue up the hill. The Borgo Grondaie is at the very end of the road. You will find the parking in front of the property to your right.

PROPERTY: Fresh looking, modern Tuscan styled 'villas' set in a small hillside, overlooking Siena and the railway track. Rooms are of moderate size. TV, mini-bar, wardrobe, phone, desk/chair. Bathroom is very nice and clean. Buffet breakfast, which is plentiful and of good quality, is served either indoors or out on the terrace. Parking is provided.

STAFF: Very nice, polite, and willing to help. Speak English very well and happy to help those learning Italian.

Unfortunately ours was a short visit to Siena, however we would consider returning here again... now that we know how to find the place.

This is a lovely hotel. the grounds are beautiful and the pool is wonderful. Breakfast is exceptionally good. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Our room was not large, but it was very pretty and very clean. It is a good home base from which to explore Siena and central Tuscany as well as a good place to take a break from travel. It might not be ideal without a car, however. It is quite a hike into the city center and the area directly surrounding the hotel does not have much to offer.

We just returned for Italy with our two small children in tow. During our trip we had an opportunity to stay two nights in this wonderful lodging. The rooms were large and very clean. The people were so friendly and courteous! The amenities are first rate, We stayed there at the end of a two week trip with a two year old and a one year old. You can imagine how pleased we were to find such a lovely place and to be served by such lovely people!! When I return to this area I won’t even bother to look anywhere else.

Don’t miss the wine cellar.. and order a snack of salami, cheese, tomatoes…..mmmmm. Truly magnificent!

This hotel is easy to find once you find the train station! One problem we had was identifying the appropriate sign pointing the way. The symbol for the station is a 3D image of a modern train coming towards you. The signs aren’t large and this symbol just didn’t click for us. Once we figured it out we were able to locate the hotel very easily

I just returned from a 10-day trip in Italy (Florence, Siena, and Rome) and stayed at this hotel while in Siena. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to others. The room was quite clean, although the shower was on the small side but not overly so. The grounds were lovely with plenty of places to relax. The pool was wonderful. Probably the highest compliment I can pay to this hotel is the breakfast. Simply outstanding. It's a glutton's delight! You will not be disappointed. It is not really within walking distance of Siena (probably at least a 20 minute walk) but it is a short car ride and there is a bus nearby. We would drive into Siena and park along the streets when we wanted to and that was not too hard. Overall, I would suggest staying at this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing hotel that is somewhat near the city center.

I have been travelling for about 10 weeks, and the Borgo Grondaie has been my absolute favourite place that I have stayed. I have not met more helpful hotel staff in my entire life. They were very kind in letting me use their internet to deal with some personal admin, no question was too small to trouble them with, there was a washing machine and powder (and drying racks!) provided so I could catch up with my laundry, and on top of that they were just lovely, friendly people. One example - I received an email from a friend who was in Siena and wanted to meet me, but the only way to contact her was if I could send her a text message. I did not have a mobile phone, so the staff let me use their personal mobile to send her a message, and when she replied, they came out to the pool to find me just to tell me she had responded! Above and beyond.

As mentioned, the pool was bliss. In addition, the breakfast was fantastic - the best I have had in Italy.

I did not have a car, but with the buses (less than 1 Euro each way), taxis (about 6 Euro), and even lifts into town from other hotel guests, it was not a problem. Being a little out of town was a welcome relief from all the noise at some of my more centrally located accommodation along the way.

Highly, highly recommended.

Wonderful place to stay with kids

An enchanting city with a wonderful place to stay... the apartments are well decorated, the bathrooms superb and the pool is lovely. We loved our stay (5 days in July 2004) so much that we went back for 1 night. It is quiet, despite the proximity with the train station and Siena is a fantastic town to visit.
Roberto makes a delicious wine tasting with light meal at the hotel Enoteca.... highly recommended!

A dream come true!

We couldn't have been more pleased with Borgo Grandie. The location to many scenic and historical sites was excellent! Front desk staff were always exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our apartment was spacious and clean, and the grounds were lovely and well-maintained. My son especially appreciated the swimming pool after long HOT days of touring. The COOP supermarket down the hill was amazing and convenient. We would not recommend walking into Siena. It is a bit of a hike. It really is easier to drive 5 minutes and park in a lot. For someone who wants to be in the center of the action this hotel would not work, but we appreciated the lovely facilities and the quiet beauty of the property. We would definitely return!

Lovely hotel, lovely city

We were a bit skeptical after having to go around the train station and grocery store to get there. But the location of the Borgo on top of a hill looking on at Siena was very peaceful and beautiful. The room was extremelly clean and quite a nice size. The staff was very helpful and kind helping us arrange concert tickets for the second day of our stay. Overall, it was perfectly lovely and I would stay there again in Siena without hesitation. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the city walls from the hotel, so if you expect to be staying within the city, this may not be the hotel for you.

Top Local Tips for Siena

Remember Sundays... many shops are closed on Sundays, I had read this but forgotten...

Buses and Taxis in Siena If you stay outside of Siena instead of in the city proper, you'll need to somehow get into the city. Don't drive, you'll have to park outside and pay a lot for the privilege. If your hotel is inside the city, maybe you can drive in but be warned the streets are extremely narrow and packed with people. Siena is a very old city, not conducive to driving, so take a bus or taxi. The bus system is excellent, and inexpensive. Properties encourage this by providing bus tickets for purchase at cost, which if I recall correctly was 80 Eurocents. A taxi is appropriate if you've got several people, luggage, or can't wait for a bus. Taxis are allowed to go into the city proper too which Joe Tourist cannot, or should not, do. Buses stop at strategic points around the city but do not penetrate every street.

Siena Market Day THere is a huge outdoor market on Wednesdays (?? Double check the date) that is blocks long. Great place to get inexpensive clothes, housewares, linens. Very local and great buys. Must do if you are there during the week. It is open until 1PM
