Location: amazingly, center of historic city.
Rooms: small, comfortable, AMAZING VIEWS.
Breakfast: standard/simple.

Do not stay at this hotel!!!!

Do not stay at this hotel. My husband and I stayed for 02 nights, the bed sheets were dirty, we did tell about this to the man “nun” at the front desk but when we arrived back to the hotel in the evening the same dirty bedding was on the bed.
The shower overflowed into the room each time a shower was taken.
I understand you need only a bed to sleep but please do not call this an Hotel, it is an youth hostel. Find a better place to stay. Curfew 11:30 p.m

Love in Siena

My family stayed at this wonderful
hotel run by nuns. The views of
Siena were breathtaking. The church
bells woke us up in the morning and
it was so special. My youngest got
sick during our stay and the nuns were
kind enough to allow us to remain in
the room six hours past check-out. I
will definitely go back. I loved it!!!

Great view

Spacious four-bedded ensuite room with balcony and magnificent view of Siena for 90 euro. Hot drink machine in corridor. Several cheap and pleasant restaurants nearby. Ask at reception as they are hidden in Siena's wonderful backstreets. Run by nuns who speak little English. No e-mail. Need to phone or fax booking.

Basic Hotel but Good Value

We stayed at the Alma Domus in May of 2005. The hotel is well situated within a short walk to the central sites of Siena. The hotel's best feature if you can get it, is a room facing the Duomo. The view is amazing! The rooms also have small balconies which are very nice and cute.

The hotel room itself is very basic. The rooms are small, spartan but clean. The most annoying aspect of the rooms are the bathrooms. The shower head is right in the middle of the bathroom with no shower curtain so be prepared to get the whole bathroom wet including the toilet!! Remember to brush your teeth before you have a shower.

That said this is a good hotel for the value. At $65.00 euros/night you really can't complain. I would recommend this hotel for its good location, amazing view and clean rooms.

Sweet and Simple

We had a nice experience at this little hotel. The rooms were clean, bedding very tasteful and comfy, and we found a lovely view of the duomo though our window. Don't expect a double bed...though it's not that hard to slide the twin beds together. The room was quiet and the management was friendly. It is in a very secure location with a curfew of 11:30 pm. I'd recommend it to others as it was good value and good location.

I woke up with a rash!

This was definitely THE WORST place my husband and I stayed in Italy. Luckily we stayed only one night (we paid 60 euro, 9/04). Because they don't have email, months in advance I sent a fax (written in Italian) to request a reservation (which was a total pain, and expensive to fax). I never received a response. I called (which was also expensive), and they hung up on me. Because we had heard good things about Alma Domus, we decided to stop in to see if they had any rooms, and they did.

The room was dirty, gloomy, and smelled awful. The bedding was thin and disgusting. We woke up at 6 a.m. to an unbearably loud jack hammer on the street below, the earplugs didn't help it was so loud. I also woke up with a red rash on all of my exposed skin (which never happens), the bed must have had some sort of bugs. The shower set up is a disaster. When we checked out in the morning, the nun (with the beard) was SO RUDE and and nasty to us for no reason at all.

Spartan But Great

We arrived and found our room small but clean. The shutters opened up to a small but fantastic balcony with a view of the Duomo and City Tower that was hard to beat. During our travels of northern Italy we found this view second to none and the city a wonderful place to visit. The restaurant right up the path outside the hotel served very good meals and was only 20 yards away.
Certainly the bathroom is small and the lack of shower curtain makes for an interesting adventure. But we made do and for 55 Euro it was by far the best bargain of our vacation.

I don't think I'd recommend Alma Domus, and I was prepared for something rather basic. On the plus side, it is cheap and not bad for the price (I paid only 42 Euro for a single room), and very centrally located. An effort had been made to make the room cheerful, and I also had a wonderful view of the Duomo. However I found the accomodation just too spartan for a stay of five days, and the "whole room" shower was a horror. (Just a hole in the floor so that everything in the room got wet). The most disappointing aspects were that 1) the people there were REALLY unfriendly and not at all courteous (and I speak a little Italian, so it wasn't a question of a big language barrier) 2) bedding and linen were very thin and worn, and they were stingy with it 3) it was not overly clean (ie someone else's hair in the shower drain hole when I arrived). 4) I found it quite noisy - very echoey so that even low level noise from other guests carried. Perhaps it would be ok if you were only staying for a night or two, but for longer, I'd say better to pay more and get something nicer.

This quasi-hotel is apparently operated by nuns although we only saw one particular nun on reception during the three days that we stayed there. She seemed to be more on morning duty. Otherwise there were men at the desk. Except at the time of our 7 a.m. departure we didn't meet any staff that spoke much English.
We had requested a room with a view which would then also have a balcony. None were available and we were put on level two, two floors below street level. As the building is on a hill, there was a window. We wondered if this area was more for overflow. There was a nun in the room across from us.
The room was clean and functional but damp. The twin beds were narrow and the mattresses uncomfortable. The sheets were badly discoloured, rough in texture but clean. Later on the train we met a young person who had stayed there but on level four, with a balcony. Her room was not damp and the sheets were as in any hotel.
It was definitely good value but we would recommend taking only a level four room, with a balcony.

Budget accommodation with a view.

Simple, very clean rooms with private bathroom and shower. The room we stayed in had fantastic views of the Duomo and the town hall tower. We also had a small balcony with morning sun. Good location.

No breakfast included in room price (€55) but available at additional price (€6).

Nearby restaurant (at the top of the stairs outside Alma Domus) is very nice - reasonable food with good view of Doumo.

Top Local Tips for Siena

lots of walking Sena is hilly and you need comfortable walking shoes as there are no cars on the medieval streets in town.

Lots of steep, winding streets to walk. Be ready to get lost in the winding streets, although that is not too bad. What is tough are the steep streets. My calves were screaming and I walk regularly. I would not recommend Siena for people with limited mobility.

Taking the bus from Siena to Florence Buses depart hourly from the bus station for 6.90 euros to go to Florence. If you get on the corse rapida SENA blue bus it will take about 75 minutes. Make sure that you get on the right one or else you will go through the countryside.
