The great hospitality

On arrival and when departing, we were personally greeted by the owners of the hotel Mr and Mrs Schuler, a simple gesture but one that is seen so rarely these days.
The hotel was very clean and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was very generous with a good variety and very tasty, all served on the beautiful panoramic terrace with spectacular views.
Though the price per night for B&B may appear expensive at first, it is worth every Euro for two reasons: 1). The location of the hotel is fantastic with easy access to the main restaurants/bars and also acts as a great base for visiting local attractions. 2). The friendly service from Mr and Mrs Schuler and their wonderful team is second to none. Everyone is multi-lingual and not only do they understand the language, they also appreciate the subtle differences in various cultures. The team’s attention to customer service is evident in everything that they do and their “personal touch” is superb.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a great place to stay with first class, friendly client service. We will certainly be back!
PS: - Look out for the gorgeous, home made, organic Marmellata di Arance (orange marmalade), made by the Schuler’s from their own garden. It is very healthy and absolutely delicious.

Our recent stay at Villa Schuler was terrific. From the first moment the staff members were outstanding; always smiling and helpful even when obviously busy.
Our accommodations were just right with a breathtaking view of the sea and Mt.Etna and without the noise that gave us some concern. We were close to everything but far enough away to sense the peace and beauty of the area. Breakfast on the terrace each day was a very pleasant treat. We would return without hesitation.

This is really a fabulous hotel. The price is good, the location is perfect, the rooms are clean and very modern, sadly there is no restaurant, staff is very friendly and services are excellent.

Villa Shuler is a family-run hotel with the most exceptional service we've encountered. Even exceeding some very expensive places where we've stayed; as a result we extended our stay in Taormina. The rooms are spacious and impeccably clean and the baths are well appointed. The rooms have small balconies with spectacular views over the sea and to Mt. Etna. The staff is very friendly and helpful with recommendations and information and speak English perfectly - among many other languages. A very nice breakfast with many selections is served on large terrace overlooking the sea, where we had cocktails after a day of touring. The hotel has a beautiful private garden. The evening before we left for an early tour of Mt. Etna, they arranged for a proper breakfast to be served to us at 6 am. On our last day, after checking out, we left our bags and car and spent the day at the beach. When we returned to gather our bags, we were offered a special bathroom where we could shower and change. It was outfitted with hair dryer, fluffy towels, shampoo, bath gel. We were in heaven to be traveling to our next destination much more refreshed than we had expected to be. They simply think of everything to accommodate their guests. Villa Shuler is the best value for location, service, and accommodation that we encountered. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Taormina.

What a memorable place! Gerhard Schuler and his staff welcomed my family and me to the Villa Schuler in June 2007. Gerhard was a wonderful host and we are indebted to him, not only for the particularly special stay at his gracious and comfortable hotel, but also for assisting us with a travel travesty.

The Villa Schuler is in a prime location near the center of Taormina, a short walk to shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. The hotel receptionists kindly recommend dining options and day itineraries. All rooms are spotless and spacious with gorgeous views and overlooks. The double superior sea view room afforded grand vistas of the sea on one side and Mt Etna on the other. It was large and quite like a junior suite. The bathroom was perfect. The garden villa suite is set amidst lush greenery and colorful flowers and is quite luxurious. It has plenty of room to relax, sun bathe and spread out loads of luggage. Delicious breakfasts are set outdoors on the patio with a scenic panorama. We would love to return to this friendly and hospitable oasis.

We have especially high regard for Gerhard, Julia and Anna who took care of our travel needs. We had experienced a car break-in and theft while on our way from Campania to Sicily. It was quite disconcerting, and we were feeling discouraged when we arrived in Taormina. When we reached Villa Schuler, however, our spirits lifted and our worries were assuaged. Julia and Anna helped make calls to reclaim stolen airline tickets and confirm a rental car replacement. Gerhard went out of his way to help us with English-Italian translation at the police station.

Our long-awaited family trip to Italy could have been soured by the theft, but it was quickly repaired by Gerhard Schuler and the people at his lovely hotel. We will always remember the kindness and concern expressed to us.

A beautiful and familiar hotel with nice rooms, a wonderful view to Mount Etna, the sea, the greek-roman theatre and the ancient city of Taormina. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the individual breakfast every morning on the palm-tree terrace. The owner cares about everything and you can see it at hundreds of kind details.

A Beautiful place to stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at this hotel the first week of June 2005. I had a coner room (#106) that had 2 balconys. The room was absolutely beautiful with a view of the ocean. The gardens in the rear of the hotel are beautiful and private. The hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and dining. The room was very clean and offers hairdryer, safe, soap and shampoo. The hotel offers buses to the beach for a small fee. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast with a wide verity on the menu. You will find many of the guests to be German. If you find this uncomfortable, you may not want to choose this hotel.

Hotel Villa Schuler is Fantastic

We loved our stay at the Hotel Villa Schuler. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has a beautiful garden and grounds. Our room with a terrace was perfect and spotlessly clean. The breakfast each morning on the terrace with the spectacular view was one of our favorite memories of Sicily (we also visited Agrigento and Siracusa).

Perfection and Heaven in One

Where to begin I do not know... First off, the hotel is beatuiful and is in a great location. You can both a great view of the sea and it is right in town. It is very quiet with nice gardens. This is not an expensive place, therefore, your money is being very well spent. If you enjoy nice breakfast the go to this place. My sister and I loved waking up at 9:00am and going to the terrace. They give you a menu and you get to select anything you want. This alone is worth staying here. The people are nice, some are nicer then others. Ohhh.. One thing you want to becareful of is there phone rates. They have great internation rates but when you make a local phone call it is even more. For instance I called the United States for 15min and it cost me about 4 euros. When I called somebody locally for 6 min it cost me 6 euros. Great place, and I definalty reccomend staying here!!!

Loved the Hotel

from gatorjack
This was truly a wonderfull hotel. We stayed in room 5 which had 2 windows, one facing the sea and one facing Mt. Etna (if it's a clear day). The breakfast was wonderfull, especially the Sicilian treat, Granite. You can also get served in bed! They also offer wine and beer from their bar (very reasonable prices) in your room or up on the rooftop which has a wonderfull view of the entire area. You can pay for internet service and/or use their computer, although we found it much cheaper off side streets. The room was large and clean. I would stay a little higher up so people can't see in the room when you are dressing. The front desk is helpfull but not real outgoing and friendly. It's the only place we've been in Italy that didn't say "hello or goodbye" when guests entered (even the stores that that for everyone!). I would definitely come back to this hotel...comparing the price with the accomodation is the best deal we got in Italy this year! We have to thanks Villa Schuler for making our Sicily trip so great.

We never wanted to leave!

from Claudiagenna
We spent 8 nights at Villa Schuler, extending our stay by 2 nights because we loved it so much. Gerald and staff could not have been more helpful or nice. We stayed in 3 different rooms, so got a taste of everything. 6 nights in #2 with a large terrace, view of Mt Etna and sea. It was heavenly! 1 night in a gardenview, probably one of the most beautiful gardens in Taormina, and 1 night in another seaview room with a balcony. Each room was different, and had their own personality. Breakfast was wonderful, and so were our servers and maids. Everyone always had a smile on their faces, unlike some hotels. Very good English was spoken at the front desk, and several special things were done for us beyond the call of duty, (dinner reservations, calls to our Sicilian family with translator services, chilling of champagne, and our last day, serving it to us at breakfast).

A marvelous well run Villa hotel with a responsive staff in a gorgeous setting on a cliff side terrace overllooking the Ionian seacoast fronting a large pleasant Garden.

The morning breakfast is substantial and varied initiating a good day ahead presided over by the special sunlight of the Mediterranean.

The facilities are meticulously and lovingly maintained with pride of tradition by the Schuler family. The Villa is nearby the main thoroughfare of shops and restruants and close by the Greek Ampitheater and other historical sites
Gerhardt Schuler, propritor,is ever present and cordially available
to guests to advise and guide their stay in Taormina with many helpful suggestions
Our small University Medical Group[18] had a wonderful productive meeting using the ample breakfast room adjacent the seaview terrace for lectures during late afternoons following a full day of touring[Siracusa,Agrigento,Aetna]--it was a week we will not soon forget

A suberb hotel

A wonderful, scenic, and friendly hotel. Mr. Schuler is always available and responsive to requests, in the best tradition of European Hotel hospitality. The ambience is relaxing and friendly, and the views of the Ionian sea and Mt. Atena from the hotel are unsurpassed. It is centrally located, but quiet, with an adjacent beautiful garden, and European and American breakfasts are served on the Terrace with maginicent views. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone going to Taormina or its vicinity in Sicily.

Villa Schuler

from MaiseGus
We spent four nights at Villa Schuler and were possibly the only guests not American or German! Almost the most expensive accomodation we stayed at during our italy trip, unfortunately our room was quite dated and we ran our of hot water every morning. Also that italian shower problem resulted in a wet bathroom floor. Must say the breakfast was very good, the best we got on our trip. Staff were courteous but not overfriendly and not particularly helpful when we needed assistance contacting another hotel for our next destination. Very well placed in the old town. Would probably not stay here again for sole reason of very expensive for the quality of room and service received.
Management Response from ChristineVoss
We took your suggestions very seriously. Last winter we renewed 12 bathrooms now all with jacuzzi showers or bath-tubs and you can be reassured there are no more problems with wet bathroom floors. The hot water supply is now stably guaranteed by our new state of the art electronic regulated water heating system. Thank you for helping us improve our services.

Villa Schuler was great!

from GoGail
We stayed at the Villa Schuler in September and it was great. We'd agree with the other reviews about the stunning views, the wonderful breakfast terrace, cleanliness and convenience. We stayed in a junior suite that had a large terrace and marvelous view. However, the sun was on the terrace most of the day and it was too hot to use. Next time we probably would not pay extra for a junior suite.

from JacquiStAlbans
We've stayed in Villa Schuler each time we've been to Sicily (3 times now) and haven't considered going elsewhere.

If you're expecting 5*, then this isn't the place, but it certainly is more than its given 2* rating. As a couple, we normally go for 4-5* star hotels but this beats many of these we've stayed in over the years.

Rooms are basic (but decor is quite ornate which fits the town) - some have been small, whilst others huge! Staff are very polite and helpful. Breakfast on the terrace is beautiful - perfect place to waken up after a night on the town! The gardens are absolutely stunning, very well maintained and the views of the sea and Mount Etna from the rooms and terrace are priceless.

Location is great as well, a lovely walk through the garden leads you to the main street, filled with shops and many fantastic restaurants. It's a short walk (10 mins stroll) to the cable car which takes you to the bottom, by the bay of Naxos, where you'll find the beaches....water is a wee bit cold (can't do much about that though), but beaches are spotless. If you're there over the weekend, especially in the summer months, try to get to the beaches no later than 11am, as it gets a bit busy with locals....we usually hire a car (just to get from the airport, no need when you get to Taormina) and it can sometimes be a bit tricky in getting a car parking space.

We may not get there this year.....summer just won't be the same.

Top Local Tips for Taormina

Castamola The walk to Castelmola is very streuous but worth it. Wear comfy shoes

Taormina a treasure trove Spent two nights at Villa Schuler; wished I could have stayed a few extra nights due to location and numerous places to visit nearby.

trains v buses We looked at using Italian railways ,as we had on the mainland, but they appeared to be few and far between. However the local buses work very well for local as well as long distance journeys. How ever because Sicily is an island don't expect to go rushing around its larger than you think. The roads are not the fastest or most direct ,so plan carefully
