Top Local Tips for Palermo

Palermo It is a big city. We found directions difficult to spot. Hotel signs are not always the same colour for example so you always had to read the entire lamppost before (maybe) finding the one you want.

On the buses At 1 Euro for 2 hours travel, the buses are by far the best way to get around as most of the attractions are fairly far apart. Buy them from the Tabbachi (tobacconists shops). Make sure you have enough tickets when you set off, though, as we were nearly caught out on a day trip to Monreale, when the Tabbachi shop was closed and we had to search hard to find another shop that sold them.

Stay away from Palermo The driving aroudn Palermo is crazy and there are lot of areas which feel dangerous. The central shopping area looks ok. The rest of Sicily if lovely, but stay away from Palermo!
