Top Local Tips for Palermo

One way streets and double parking Most of the main roads in Palermo are one way streets. The ones on the east side mainly go north and the ones on the west side mainly go south. But on all roads people double park on both sides, so every road becomes barely wide enough for one car to crawl through. That's what takes up the time in trying to drive through Palermo.

somewhat gritty, still enjoyed The city of Palermo is a bit gritty and fallen on hard times, but it's still worth a stroll around to see it. If you enjoy ancient stuff, the small museum is not to be missed. It contains the Palermo Stone, one of the keys to unlocking the sequence of pharaohs from ancient Egypt, as well as the temple carvings from Selinunte. The city looks better at night, we strolled around and found a nice outdoor restaurant and had a leisurely dinner with some nice vino rosso. Mostly we stayed there because we flew into Palermo and were headed to the west and south coasts of Sicily to see the ruins. Segesta and Agrigento are not to be missed if you enjoy tromping around ancient ruins.
