Top Local Tips for Palermo

Catacombe Cappuccini is not for those with weak stomachs! It's a sight not to be missed -- but only if you can stand to be surrounded by standing, fully clothed skeletons, many with skin and hair still visible. Could cause nightmares for people -- I just wanted to run out!

Location Be very careful about location. We were told on more than one occasion to be careful about our jewelry (and we weren't wearing fancy stuff). I have lived in NY all my life and have never been scared in daylight about being mugged. We were 3 women traveling alone and it seemed to be an issue.

Location and access Palermo is an extremely scenic city with many attractions within walking distance. Monreal is an absolute must see. The view from the Santa Rosalia church is also amazing. Most of the attractions are accessible by public transit. The city has much to offer in terms of historic sites, with influences from the Moors, Greeks, and Romans, etc. Many of these locations are in a state of repair, but this does not take away from their appeal. The city of Palermo is safe and the people are genuinely friendly and willing to assist you.
