Stayed here for a week on a B & B basis in early Oct 2005. Be sure to pay the supplement for a sea view room which will have some form of balcony to enjoy the view. Bedrooms OK with good bathrooms.
Very good pool, plus an OK little adjacent swimming beach, unfortunately spoiled by ugly adjacent Fertilia buildings (water clean and warm enough to swim at this time of year). You will need a car to get into Alghero in the evening (where there are loads of good eating places and nice strolls to be had thro' the old town), also to visit Capo Caccia and other superb coastline and beaches to the West and North.
Moans were a wedding taking over virtually all public areas on the Sat; truly awful noisy late evening entertainment to about midnight or beyond on the terrace; and car parking can be difficult at times.
But better to stay here than most of the other Alghero hotels as they generally aren't close enough to the town centre for an easy walk and most have a busy road in front. HOWEVER, Hotel Dei Pini nearby is cheaper than Punta Negra,the public rooms and dining terrace facilities better, and the beach is superior too. It doesn't have a pool but I'd prefer it to the Punta Negra if I was visiting again.
If you want a second venue in Sardinia, try Cala Gonone on the mid-East coast. Absolutely stunning scenery and water in the Gulf of Orosei, but smaller/quieter than Alghero. We stayed in the Hotel Costa Dorada which has its own website.

Top Local Tips for Alghero

Town visits Use the hotel courtesy bus to get into Alghero and back during the day as taxis are expensive.

Buses Buses are tricky and no one really seems willing to give too much away on how to use them. There are two types of buses - yellow and blue. Blue buses are town to town services and yellow buses are local. The trick is to buy a ticket in advance from a tabacchi shop. The only problem there is all the tabacchis close from 1-4pm every day and even outside those hours seem reluctant to sell bus tickets. There is a bus ticket office in Alghero that remains open all day and will sell you a book of tickets which can be used whenever feel the urge to get on a bus. If you can't find someone to sell you a bus ticket, just get on anyway and play the dumb trourist card, you'll find they just let you carry on regardless.
