Brilliant holiday!

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent one week's stay with our teenage son. Both the double and single rooms had a balcony at no extra charge, and were very clean and comfortable. There was a mini-bar in the bedroom which our son plundered - this was a little pricey. The air-conditioning was adjustable and the room was very cool despite temperatures of 98 degrees farenheit! The views from the room of Vesuvius were breathtaking. The public rooms and the pool area were pleasant and well maintained. The buffet breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The dinner menu was good but a little expensive. However, there were a number of good restaurants in the area. The best of these was Crawford's at the top of the street on which the hotel is located. We dined there several times. The staff were all extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. I would very much like to visit this hotel again.

Great Place To Stay

from samlatter76
Stayed at the Hotel Caravel between 18th June - 25th June. The hotel is very nice, has friendly & helpful staff, there is a small but clean swimming pool & the rooms are comfortable with a balcony. Stayed on a B&B basis, there is plenty to choose from at breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, cerial & crossiants etc. Evening meal available at an extra cost but didn't try as there are too many other different restaurants to try in Sorrento. The Hotel offer a courtesy bus service at certain times of the day to Sorrento centre or you can walk which takes about 20 mins. Hotel is also located near the railway station if you are looking to take the train to Pomei which is a great day out. We also visited Almalfi & Positano whixh are both beautiful, you can get the bus from the main railway station at Sorrento & visit both places in one day as they are on the same bus route. Would recommend this hotel providing you don't mind the 20 min walk into town.

Perfect to whom want stay in Sorrento but not to in a croudy atmosphere

from Enriquelme
I spent 5 days in this hotel in Sant'Agnello which is a little town close to Sorrento (from the hotel to reach the center it will take 20mins).
They have got a free shuttle service to Sorrento at scheduled time that is great. 2 mins walk you have got a nice beach called "La Marinella" that is possible to reach either by feet with steps (is located down the cliff) either take the lift.
If you need to check your email they hve got a nice room with 2 computers free of charge at guests disposal.

Great pool where you can chill out take the sun and drink a cocktail.
i will defenetly come back there when i'll get the occasion to visit again Sorrento.

Dear Enriquelme,
thank you so much for having post your comment on tripadvisor! We are glad to hear that you appreciated
our shuttle bus; infact it could be useful for guests that wish to stay in the centre of Sorrento in a couple of minutes; The beach near the Hotel is quiet and not crowded, ideal location for guests that want to relax and have a nice bath in our wonderful sea!
Hope to see you soon in our hotel

kind regards

Lovely hotel set in pleasant gardens with small refreshing pool

from tldkj
Lovely hotel in a pleasant setting with a small refreshing pool and sunbathing area. Room was a good size with a small balcony, it was always cleaned spotlessly by the maid. We were half board and found the menu varied, the waiters friendly and helpful and the atmosphere relaxing. The bar area both indoors and out were very comfortable. Courtesy bus availiable if you dont want to walk into Sorrento(25 min walk)Good mixture of nationalities(english, australian, american, german and french)and a good mix of ages, overall a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday, a great base for exploring.

Dear Guest,
We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Hotel Caravel. We always try to offer to our clients a different selection of regional dishes and the cleaning of the rooms and the kindness of our staff is something we really trust in.
Wish to see you again

Lovely pool area, dated room and a long walk to Sorrento.

from HBPPManchester
The shared areas of the hotel, ie reception, pool area, terrace etc were lovely. The bed rooms are clean but dated and basic with dated and small bathrooms. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and only one thin pillow (which was fine for my partner but I prefer two or at least one "fluffy" pillow!) Our room was also next to the fourth floor sun terrace and so we were woken up by doors slamming open and shut in the morning.

Parking for the hotel is an extra10 euros per day but we managed to get road parking outside the hotel for an hour at a time (tickets from local tobacco shop) at about half the cost-you can buy several hours at once at one euro per hour.

The hotel was in a nice residential street approx 25 mins walk from Sorrento. After a long walk there and back on the first night we made sure that we were booked on the hotel courtesy bus to Sorrento. We caught a taxi back as the last courtesy bus leaves Sorrento at 8.45 pm and were somewhat shocked to be charged 18 euros (approx £18 at the current exchange rate) for what is essentially a five minute journey!! This was however par for the course whilst we were in Italy which is generally expensive and not helped by the poor exchange rate for English £. Sorrento town centre is lovely with a great choice of excellent restaurants so was worth the walk/taxi fare-just make sure you have flat shoes if attempting the walk as it does seem like a long way after a day walking around the sights of Pompeii!!

All in all I would say that we would be satisfied with this hotel if we had paid a little less but we were a little dissapointed with the room which we felt was not worth the money.

t be disappointed

from MerlinYork
The Caravel was recommended to us by a friend who had been with her children, who Italians obviously love and certainly everything she said about the hotel did not disappoint. There was a good range of guests, though the majority were English and older (which included us!) The atmosphere was relaxed - very important as we hate stuffy hotels. Everyone we talked to enjoyed their stay (yes the atmosphere made even us Brits. want to talk to total strangers to exchange our holiday experiences each day!)

I had read a bad review about the menu being "unimaginative" - this was most certainly not the case. The menu varied every night with a choice of 5 starters and mains and the food was expertly cooked, presented and tasted great. The waiters kept us (sometimes unintentionally) amused and were very friendly and helpful, led by the quietly efficient and always polite Pino.

The hotel is quietly situated just out of Sorrento town, which is a very pleasant 20 minute walk away, just the thing to walk off the evening meal and take in the bustling centre. The courtesy bus was most useful, we used it 2 or 3 mornings to shorten the journey to the harbour in the morning - recommend a boat trip as the best way to see the coast.

The pool was not large but adequate and a great place to relax after a morning site seeing - the friendly barman always happy to bring drinks out to you. The room was spotlessly clean and again the maid always cheerful. Drinks were no more expensive than hotels generally.

For a relaxing holiday with no nasty surprises we thourougly recommend you stay here.

Try again

from TravellingLarry
This is an older hotel that is well-maintained. The room was clean and of good size. The breakfast was good, although quite standard. The pool was nice but had somewhat limited hours.

The hotel is located 25-30 minutes' walk from Sorrento, not 15 minutes like the hotel staff indicated. This is OK if you are ready for the walk or you just want to stay at the hotel pool. Otherwise, if you want to experience charming Sorrento (yet would like to check back to your hotel) going in and back to get a tour, shopping, dinners, etc. became increasingly inconvenient over several days.

The hotel staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. Every question seemed like a bother and they were no help answering our basic questions.
Management Response from hotelcaravel
Dear guest,
I am a little bit concerned in reading your review. The hotel has been twice renovated, once last year when we rebuilt 20 rooms, the other one 5 years ago, when we renovated the restaurant, the hall and the bar area. It's also very strange that you found the reception staff unhelpful, just because everybody sais just the opposite (as you can read in all the other reviews)

Lovely Hotel

from CFLDI
We stayed here in April. The rooms are quite small but very clean and modern. We had a (small) balcony with a fantastic view of the sea. The pool area was nice, and the food was excellent. Staff were pleasant and very helpful, but unobtrusive. It is a little outside Sorrento itself (about half hour walk) but the hotel do bus drops and pick ups.

great hotel - just out of Sorrento

from GrantinLondon
The hotel is tucked away in a quiet street about 15 minutes walk from the heart of Sorrento, just close enough that the walk home after dinner in Sorrento is not a drag.
However, if you are looking for a hotel in the heart of Sorrento, this isn't the one.
It's a 5 minute walk from the train station in St Agnello and the bus from the airport drops you in the piazza outside the station. Once you get your bearings there are great little lane ways to explore between the hotel and the station that allow you to avoid walking along the busy and narrow Corsa Italia.
The hotel facilities are excellent. The entire hotel was spotless and the staff on reception were wonderfully welcoming when I arrived and happy and helpful during my entire stay. I can't fault their service. They provided maps of the area on request, lent me a power adaptor and provided an umbrella on the one night it rained - all without hassle.
My room was on the top floor with a magnificent view of the Bay and Vesuvius. Definitely ask for a room with a view when you book!. The bathroom was small, but adequate for a solo traveller and what one would expect for a single room.
The pool area looked great. It was a tad cool for swimming, so I didn't try the water, but a few more hardy sorts were to be seen taking some sun. I am sure it is great in the summer.
There is also a solarium terrace on the 4th floor with wonderful views of the town and the Bay.
Breakfast was fine. It provided a selection of cereals, bacon and eggs, fresh fruit and pastries.
I just booked the Bed and Breakfast package, but did eat in the hotel one evening. The food was adequate, but there are so many places to eat in the area I found it better to explore them.
For the price, this hotel is a bargain!

What an excellent hotel

from JonesyNI
This was our third stay at the Caravel and we were delighted to find that its very high standards have been maintained. When we arrived we were so pleased to be given our favourite room with its balcony and view over the Bay of Naples. A welcoming basket of fruit in our room was very much appreciated, a gesture typical of the thoughtfulness of the hotel staff. Where does the Caravel find its wonderful staff? Mary and her team in reception, the waiters in the dining room, the bar staff, the cleaners - they were all so cheerful, friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay a very enjoyable one. The hotel may not be in the centre of Sorrento but we think it is an advantage to be in the leafy suburbs away from the bustle of the busy town and the hotel does provide a courtesy bus service to shuttle guests in and out of the town.
Breakfasts were first class with a wide range of cereals, fruit juices, types of bread, hot drinks etcetera to choose from and the operation is run by such a smartly dressed head waiter who obviously takes great pride in his work.
We are from Northern Ireland ourselves and my wife has a great fondness for Irish coffee and claims the best she has ever had is at the bar of the Caravel.
Of course these are expensive times for those whose currency is sterling but we found the hotel rates very reasonable indeed especially given the high quality of service that the hotel offers. Our holiday in Sorrento was very enjoyable thanks to a great extent to this excellent hotel.

Friendly hotel

from BertLuton
Lovely hotel in quiet back streets of Sant'Agnello, within 15 minutes walk of Sorrrento town centre and its restuarants and shops. With a swimming pool.
Rooms very clean and well serviced.
Best part - the staff: all were very friendly and incredibly helpful, especially regarding the sights and public transport.
