Historical Traveller Reviews of Welroma Hotel
what a great stay!
from trvlinfam
The greatest gem of this hotel is Mary and Carlo. They are full of the best information and helpful tips. Always a smile and a greeting. Great price for a family of four. This is a small hotel very conveniently located a few minutes walk from Termini Station. A grocery store is around the corner and easily reached. I think they have the bus routes memorised! Thank you thank you thank you for making our stay so comfortable!
Great Hotel

My girlfriend and I stayed at Welrome for 6 nights and had an amazing time. Mary and Carlo were extremely helpful and offered tons of great information about Rome. The fridge in the room was perfect and allowed us to save some money by keeping food in the room. The hotel is clean and in a good location with good restaurants and gelaterias in the area. Highly recommended.
Well deserved reputation

We found Welrome Hotel via the Tripadvisor website. We stayed at the hotel in early July for three nights and booked direct with the hotel via e-mail. This was out first stay in Rome. This small hotel is close to Termini station and the air conditioned room was clean and comfortable. The hosts Carlos and Mary are marvellous - they are just really nice people. Their knowledge and enthusiasm for the City had no bounds. In particular we have an interest in art and Carlos directed us to many works of art in lesser known locations. We dined at two excellent and reasonably priced restaurants recommended by them near to the hotel. In our short stay we went to all the usual sites - all of which are within walking distance of the hotel. In particular we would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Borghese Gallery.
Small, personable hotel
from Recess
We stayed at the Welrome Hotel in late June. It was our first stop on a two week trip to Italy. We loved the location--close to Termini Station and all modes of transportation, yet down a quiet dead-end side street. The room had a private bath and A/C that worked well. It was small, but clean and comfortable—and affordable. What really made the hotel special were the proprietors. They were more than happy to help with any questions we had and bent over backwards to make our stay in Rome enjoyable. I would not hesitate to recommend the Welrome Hotel.
Wonderful

I never write reviews normally but on this occasion I felt i just had too. The Welrome Hotel is just wonderful. Carlo and Mary run the place, they are like having your own perfect tourist info office. The info and tips they gave were honest and informative. They truely helped us get the most out of our 3 days in Roma. The restaurants they recommended were beautiful and reasonably priced. The rooms are spotlessly clean with everything you need. There location is close to the station down a quiet side street. I cannot stress enough how much i would reccommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome on a short visit. Just perfect....
Thanks to Carlo and Mary for looking after us.

Great little place!
from MarnTree
We loved our stay at Welrome! This was our first trip to Italy and Rome was our first stop, so our heads were spinning when we arrived. Mary and Carlo gave us everything we needed. They pointed out where to get a few things for breakfast (even gave us plates and utensils!) where to buy a metro ticket, where to get the best gelato, etc. And even how to avoid the crowds of protesters that were there when Bush arrived (luckily it was only for a day and it was peaceful--we never felt unsafe). The room was perfect for what we needed--a cool, clean escape after a hot, tiring day. Mary and Carlo are lovely people and helped make our stay in Rome very memorable!
Very Welcoming
from BzzTraveler
When we arrived we were handed a wallet sized piece of paper with the Welrome address and contact information for our convenience. How hospitable is that?! There were 3 of us in a 4 person room (the Spagna room). It was spacious even for 4 persons. The bathroom was large and shower worked well. The room was neat and clean, and the air conditioning worked very well. The beds were comfortable and had shelving at the headboard level with personal lights/switches. There was a TV w/remote, room safe w/key, and a small refrigerator (not a mini bar). The window had shutters and double-paned glass which kept out what little street noise there was. The best part was that Mary and Carlo are fantastic hosts. They are very concerned with making sure everyone has a wonderful stay at the hotel. They are conscientious about keeping the lobby conversation volume low to not disturb their guests. The amount of Rome tips that Carlo provided was unbelievable. Mary was very helpful when one of us had problems making it to the airport. The hotel is near a good-sized grocery store and there's a good/moderately priced Italian restaurant right next door. We would come here again and would recommend Welrome to others.
Great service makes the difference!
from StevosAbroad
Mary and Carlo are two of the best hosts we have ever met - attentive, friendly and incredibly helpful, providing valuable information on sightseeing, shopping and safety. They explained everything about the room on arrival (so unusual these days) and took a genuine interest in how we could best enjoy our limited time in Rome. The hotel is small and without many facilities, but the family room was spotlessly clean and well appointed, having the major benefit of very effective air conditioning. The location 8 minutes walk from Termini station felt very safe and enjoyed convenient access to the metro, buses and walking to the vast majority of sights; when you have limited time, this convenience really scores highly and we had a super few days sightseeing. However, the most memorable aspect of our visit will remain the superb attention of our hosts; our young daughter liked Mary so much that she bought her a small bunch of flowers. We will visit this hotel on our next trip to Rome.
Clean place, warm people
from KBNYC
This is a small place with very clean rooms. The owner is very warm and always willing to help with advice and directions. There is someone at the front desk very late. Walking distance to most attractions, except Vatican. We were able to see Rome entirely on foot. Several great restaurants in the area. There was a small refrigerator in the room. Overall, pleasant experience for a budget European place.
Value and Caring Hosts
from CanadaPatrick
This is a small (six room) budget priced hotel but we found it perfect for our needs - out all day, exhausted on return, needing only a comfortable bed in a clean room with decent shower facilities and a peaceful nights sleep. We found that, and in addition, owners who took a keen interest in what you wanted to see and know. Mary and Carlo provided excellent advice in excellent English on how to see Rome, find your way round the city and prioritize your time. They did this with each guest taking all the time necessary, even reviewing any questions you might have when you returned after a long day. We cannot say enough about their level of caring for their guests and the extent of knowledge of their city.
The rooms are small but spotlessly clean and have excellent double glazed windows to ensure noise from an adjacent bar and hotel were kept to a minimum. We had no trouble with street noise and the modern air conditioning unit was whisper quiet and efficient. We had adaquate and constant hot water for showers and the owners provided us with coffee making equipment on request.
The hotel does not have a restaurant but our hosts recommended several within walking distance that delivered as promised, good food at reasonable prices. We found the hotel very easily from their directions (available on [---]) although we would add a minute or two more to the stated 4 minute walk from the Termini station. Our survey with fellow hotel guests was equally positive. Try it and enjoy!
Top Local Tips for Rome
Colosseum/Palentine Hill tour - 10 Euros
During Colosseum open hours, just show up and someone on the street will come up and ask if you would like to join a tour for 10Euros. Take them up on this offer. This allows you to bypass the long line to get in. It was an hour tour in the Colosseum with a personal speaker held like a cellphone so there is no problem hearing the guide. After the hour tour you may join the Palentine Hill tour (about a 10 minute wait) or hang out longer in the Colosseum and then catch the Palentine tour about 1.5hrs later. There are no headsets at the Palentine Hill tour but hearing wasn't a problem because there is a lot of space and not many other tourists/groups. Tips are generally given at the end of the Palentine Hill tour. Both tours are worth the 10 euros total.
