Ideal Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Visconti Palace May 2005 and felt the location was ideal. We walked everywhere - Vatican City, Spanish Steps, Colloseum - and Visconti was a nice place to retreat after a long day of sightseeing. It was close enough to walk to all the major sites, yet on a quite street with no city noise. The staff was helpful, and the bartender was engaging. The room and hotel itself was very clean; certainly worth the money spent. We would gladly return tomorrow!

nice BUT

stayed there this past july, location great to walk to all the sites,BUT must agree with others that the staff was very rude and not helpful at all, tried to ice for the room and had to beg the bartender because they have no ice machines. Be very careful of your belongings when at the breakfast buffet, there was`a young lady working the room eyeballing the womens purses when they went up to the buffet line, when i approached her after she changed seats numerous timesshe ran out in a huff. Told the head man at the restaurant and his reply was that its that time of the year!!!!!!!

Snob Hotel of the Year

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel is in a great location, nice rooms. Every employee is a snob. They do not want tourist travel. The desk people would not help with any dinner arrangement unless they recommend the resturant. Every employee gave the impression they would only help if they recieved a kick-back or some compinsation. The employees were rude, curt, un polished. Very bad experence.

Very enjoyable stay

from TrishP
We really enjoyed our stay at the Visconti Palace. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and in a good, quiet location with plenty of excellent restaurants and shops nearby.

The location is ideal - about a fifteen minute walk to Vatican City in one direction, and the same to Piazza Navona or Spanish Steps the opposite way. The walk to The Colosseum took thirty to forty minutes. We did not have to take public transport at all during our week there.

Our connecting rooms were very clean and quiet - the beds were comfortable, and sheets were changed daily. Bathrooms were spotless. We heard no noise from the road, or from other guests. Continental breakfast, with plenty of choice, was included in the rate.

We had no complaints about the staff either - the reception staff were not the most friendly, but were definitely not rude.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week there, and will definitely stay there again.

Good Value

from Euell
Rooms were nice, modern and clean. Location is great - Vatican, spanish steps, and Trevi are all within easy walking distance. The metro station is a few blocks away - which makes the Colosseum trip very easy. We really didn't need much from the staff so we had very little interaction. Breakfast was good - all in all - a nice stay.

Nice stay at Visconti Palace

Nice hotel. Clean. Good location to visit Vatican, Piazza Nuvona and others on foot. Nice restaurants close by. Safe area. Too corporate for me. Staff was efficient but not very freindly. Would try another hotel the next time just for variety. They did nothing to make me want to come back and nothing to make me want to stay again.

Decent accomodation

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked this hotel after reading all the reviews and will admit most of the reviews were right on. I'm very big on cleanliness and this hotel was exceptionally clean. Every night I would return to find my room tidied with fresh sheets and fresh towels. The rooms are small but very comfortable and adequate. The hotel staff behind the desk had no personality to speak of (I doubt I saw once smile the whole time I was there) and reluctantly answered my questions when asked. At one point I was going to request that the attendant (older gentleman) call a taxi for us. I approached him, smiled and was ready to speak when he deliberately turned his back on me and pretended to file away some paper he was holding. I don't understand how anyone can turn away from a smiling customer. I'm not one for kissing anyone's behind so I ended up walking out instead and arrived at the Vatican about 20 minutes later. The walk wasn't too bad and if you venture far enough in the opposite direction you can also make it to the Colosseum on foot. It was a little further but manageable if you can't get a taxi. On a brighter note, the Bellhop and the Breakfast attendants made up for it by being pleasantly polite. Maybe the desk personel could learn a thing or two from them. Overall, if you can ignore the absence of proper customer service etiquete and just want to stay somewhere clean and comfortable then this hotel should suit your needs. I would definitely return.

Accommodations Fine -- Accommodating - NOT SO FINE

from A TripAdvisor Member
I read the reviews on this site before we stayed at the Visconti Palace. It was clean and convenient. As for the staff, I found them condescending and unfriendly.

I was out on the patio (remember this -- outside) and engrossed in a book I slipped off my sandals and propped my feet up. Out from no where the "rattan" Nazi came out and scolded me like I was a school girl putting my feet up in the movie theater. It was uncalled for and since the table had a dirty ashtray and bird droppings as part of the atmosphere, it was not like I was writing on the walls of the Vatican.

The continental breakfast was adequate, but when I took some juice up to the room and stored a piece of pizza in the fridge....this juice glass and plate were left in the room by the maid and the pizza taken out of the fridge and left on the table all day as a "warning" to me that, again, I had violated some house rule.

Wouldn't stay there if it was free!

Good Value Good Location

from Clair22
Stayed here with friends 3-6 June. Hotel has a comtemporary feel. Rooms small but very clean and more than adequate. Excellent location for exploring Rome - close to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Vatican. Public areas also nice. Breakfast fine, small bar but no restaurant. Overall very good value. No complaints about staff - we found them very helpful and will certainly stay here if we visit Rome again.

But please avoid nearby restaurant Le Cupola - it was recomnmended by hotel but food was poor, service worse and bill extortionate!

Good hotel

from MichiganAlbatross
Stayed four nights the end of May with my daughter and granddaughter. Rooms are small but extremely comfortable. We had a triple - good beds, nice linens, generous and good breakfast buffet. the location is great - 10 minutes from Vatican or Spanish Steps. Nice neighborhood - no views to speak of. Reception desk personnel nead to learn the meaning of hospitality - surly, unhelpful. We never had a "hello" or "enjoy your stay?"
Staff in bar and lounge area need lessons in how to be a welcoming presence and be of service. One has to order your own drink at bar and then are served reluctantly. I'm not sure what the problem is there.
However, housekeeping and dining room staff were wonderful. I have stayed at more charming hotels in rome, but this time wanted more comfort than charm! Would definitely stay there again, ignoring the reception staff. All in all, a very good value. Since one doesn't spend a lot of time in hotel room while in rome, the Visconti Palace is a fine choice.

Top Local Tips for Rome

find the real rome get away from tourist traps!!! you will pay more and get worse food and service.

You are right in the middle of it! Hotel is rigth between the histroic center and Vatican. This is a great location. Walk!! Rome is not a city of cabs. If you have problems with walking, book bus tour through the concierge.

travel to Rome In 30 years as a travel agent I have found March and November the best times to travel to Western Europe. The prices, crowds and temperatures are down. Travel in July and August can be extrememly hot to the point of being dangerous.
