From Nickae on reception to the driver who took us to the airport on the day we left, we couldn't have found a nicer, happier, cleaner, fantastic value for money hotel anywhere. The room was large, kingside bed, immaculate bathroom and linen. Fabulous

Elegant, comfortable

I found the hotel and staff to be very accomodating. Location is excellent - short walk to Spanish Steps or Via Veneto. The room is small but well appointed. The bath has a tub with hand held shower, towel warmer, hook for robe (robe not included). There is a wall mounted hair dryer but it is very weak. A nice magnified make up mirror was in the bath also. Two bath towels (no washcloth) were provided. Cotton hand towels were provided. Small soaps, shampoo (no conditioner), shower cap were provided. This was a queen size bed. Extra pillows (nice, fluffy) were in the room as well. The TV was very nice and included CNN, BBC and an English channel. There was a mini-bar. No iron in room and no clock. There was an in room safe. The closet had 8 hangers (attached to pole) but no skirt hooks. Nice desk area next to a window. The breakfast buffet is very nice.

Nice reception, bad Restaurant

I stood at the Victoria from the 26th to the 29th September 2005. The recption guys are very friendly and helpful. The room is relatively small, but clean and comfortable, which should be normal for this price.

The first evening, we made the mistake to eat at the restaurant. The service was bad. The waitor had just three tables to serve, but he "forgot" our wine and mineral water for 15 minutes. At least the food was ok, but not superb. We didn't felt being welcome, so we decided to take the espresso and the grappa at the bar, which was completely empty. There the barman declared that it was impossible to take the espresso at the bar and that we, the paying clients, should go back to the restaurant. Four stars? I don't think so. Three would fit.

Hi,

We stayed at the Hotel Victoria for nine days from June 23rd, and it was ok. The rooms were small, but very clean, and the breakfasts were adequate. The areas I found to be lacking, is the information that a foreigner requires to get around, and the restaurants that they recommend.Nicola was very helpful, but many of the other people were not. I had an incident where a bag of my toiletries and medicines was removed from my room, and we reported it to Mr. Cambi, the Director, and, he basically avoided us and disclaimed responsibility. Only after leaving the hotel and returning home, he then offers one night free accomodation the next time I am in Rome.This was upsetting, as I had to Fedex my migraine medication from very far away. This incident did somewhat ruin our vacation, along with the lack of useful information in English to discover the city.

Loved the Victoria

We stayed for 6 nights and found it to be absolutely wonderful. The staff was very helpful, from the restaurant waiters, to the desk staff, to the tour concierge. We were given excellent recommendations for restaurants that were near-by, in walking distance. They had excellent food, friendly people, and affordable prices. Our room was beautiful. The bathroom was huge and gorgeous. We were on the 5th floor overlooking the wall and the B. Gardens. It was breath-taking from our small balcony. The weather was cool and our room was perfect. We enjoyed the roof-top area and ate there for lunch a time or two. The walk to near-by attractions was very do-able. We were treated well and I would certainly return.

This hotel is conveniently located for shops, restaurants and tourist attractions, being a few minutes away from the Spanish Steps and metro station. The rooms are modern, clean and bright. The staff in general are quite helpful. The internet is cheap (10 Euros a day) compared to some other hotels in Italy.

This hotel definitely provides value for money!

Stayed here for four nights. Fantastic location just off the Via Veneto, and right across from the Villa Borghese (the zoo is great!). Clean, decent size rooms. Helpful, friendly staff. My brother stayed here too a while back, and he loved it also.

A great retreat from the bustle of Rome

At the end of a trip to Italy in September that focused principally on pastoral locations, a traveling companion and I landed at the Victoria. Our request for two beds was honored. The room was large and pretty, and the beds extremely comfortable. The room was cleaned each day to within an inch of its life. We found the staff reserved but very helpful, including making dinner reservations for us. Also a nice breakfast buffet. While the hotel is not in the dead-center of tourist attractions (as some other reviewers have noted) nor is it near a Metro station, it's a short block from a taxi stand, it's ideal if you like to walk, and extremely quiet for a Rome hotel. It's also right across from the Villa Borghese. For us, the location was a plus -- we loved being out of the traffic and noise. Just lovely!

Great Value

Stayed here for 2 nights in the beginning of August. Had a perfectly lovely experience. Hotel was nicely appointed, staff was friendly and spoke great English. They didn't bat an eyelash when we arrived early in the morning, allowing us to check in. The location was good. A little removed from the bustle of the city, but close enough to make touring easy. Only negative was the bathroom. While it was huge, the tub area had some mold. Overall though, it was a great value, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if the price remains competitive.

We have stayed at Victoria twice, once in Dec.2002 and once in Dec. 2001. We find it to bed a great place. Being across the street from the Villa Borghese is a real plus, especially when traveling with children. There is a little amusement area and games just inside the park and it is just magical. They are also these cool 4-people bike carts that are fun. The Hotel is not outstanding compared to the "biggies" a few blocks away, but it is clean, comfortable and has great breakfasts. Last we heard, there were updates going on. When in Rome, this is a friendly, nice place to stay and we would return.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Vatican City & St Pauls - Time Traveller Go early morning, we started queing just before 10am and do the Sistine Chapel & Vatican City first. Also worth doing the Time Traveller which tells you all about the history of Rome.

Beware Of Rip Offs TAXI TIP: When taking a taxi to/from the airports there is new law that says Taxi’s can only charge a flat fee of 30 or 40 Euros (for all hotels within the Aleutian walls) depending on the airport. The Victoria Hotel IS within the walls. The taxi drivers do not like this law and may try to ignore it, beware. There is literature in the airport on this new law. We found this out the hard way AFTER paying 70 euros for the Taxi to the hotel, live and learn right? The drivers inside of the airport are private drivers who will try to take you in their private cars…needless to say this isn’t a good idea because they aren’t governed by anyone. Always look for the White Taxis.

Just walk We only used a taxi to get from the train station to the hotel, and then from the hotel to the airport. No buses or subways either. Basically, we walked everywhere, everyday. Great exercise. And, we had our 8 and 10 year old with us. When they started whining, we just gave 'em gelato. Worked like a charm.
