This a lovely hotel, situated near one of the most beautiful streets in Rome, just a few minutes walk from Piazza di Spagna. Very friendly and helpful staff, rooms are not very spacious but rather comfortable, elegant bathrooms and very good service. We stayed there twice and definitely will book again.

Rip Off

V expensible for very little service. 1/2 measures at 12 euro/glass of wine. Piano bar 40 Euro cover charge even if your resident. Rooms very small/ smelly. Ill stick to the Hilton if I were you.

What a quirky hotel!

I stayed over the summer at the Valadier with my girlfriend, while on a romantic trip in Rome. We stayed 9 nights during the hottest season in Rome. I had heard ton of complaints about the air conditioning, so we were apprehensive!

The first room we stayed in was beautiful, small, but it is Europe. Such a funny little room! The bathroom was extremely well appointed, and the room was gorgeous, aside from its size. The air in that room was a little warm, so we switched halfway through our trip to another room, this one a little larger, but still very nice. Breakfast was nice, and the restaurant down below, Il Brillo Parlante, was amazing! We ate all over Rome, and Il Brillo Parlante was one of the best restaurants we found! Great wine selection, and terrific antipasti. The staff was extremely helpful, and the front desk staff couldn't have been sweeter.

I wrote about this dreadful hotel in June. After all the problems my work colleagues and myself had at this hotel, they eventually agreed to a minimal refund (EUR25 / night). Of course, you only managed to achieve this by continually making international phone calls to the hotel, and them pretending no-one was there - but persistence pays off. Well so I thought, despite the offer of compensation - do u think they then actually go the extra step and actually credit your credit card. You guessed it. You have to make more international phone calls to pester them to do that. I'm still waiting to see it on my Amex statement. Just avoid this hotel at all costs - it should be out of business and the management strung up and pelted with stale pasta. Avoid.

We spent 4 nights here, and really enjoyed it. The room was small, but very nicely appointed. We had a stand for each suitcase, a roomy closet, a perfect little corner desk, a couch and tiny coffee table. The bathroom was also small, but well designed. Beautiful marble throughout, and spotless. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Liked the casual restaurant next door and the breaksfasts at the hotel! Helpful staff. Would return--much better than the other place we stayed in Rome!

The room was tiny. We were shocked at how cramped we were. I realize that hotel rooms in Europe are on the small side but this was ridiculous. No room for suitcases (2). We had to get our stuff out of the suitcase and stack them on top of each other in a corner. The bathroom was barely large enough for one person to turn around in. The air conditioner was terrible. We thought because the room was so small that at least it would be cold. It was not. They were working on the front of the hotel (right outside our bedroom window). The staff is very helpful and friendly and the room was furnished nicey but that's the best I can say for this hotel. We would never recommend it.

This hotel has a lot to offer it's guests. It is ideally located - walking distance to the Spanish Steps and public transportation. Our room happened to be very small. It was almost comical how small it was! It almost seemed like there was only enough room for the bed! However, the bathroom was nicely sized (strange!). Regardless of the size, the style and decoration of the room, bathroom, and hotel is nice. It is clean and nicely appointed. It has a lively piano bar. The breakfast buffet has everything one desires. The staff is helpful with all requests - reservations, travel information, sightseeing information, etc. Overall, very satisfied and I would not hesitate to return.

Great Hotel, Great Location

What a great hotel!! stayed there April, 2004. the staff was extremely
welcoming and helpful, the piano bar was simply awesone. a great way to
relax after a day of sightseeing.there is some remodeling going on to
the front of the building, but dont let that stop you from staying
here. the breakfast in the moring was great!!! eggs included.

i heard some people say the rooms are small, ours wasnt. we were 2
adults and 2 kids, we had 2 beds in different areas. it was a perfect
set up. i dint see other rooms though.

some may think the location is a little out of the way, but i think its perfect. literally 5 mins from the spanish steps, it's right at the top of via del corso,and the picturesque piazza del popllo, close to shopping. we walked everywhere from here.

the area on this side of town is also more livlier and cleaner than the
termini side of town.

i TOTALLY, WHOLE-HEARTEDLY, reccomend this place.

booked this weekend trip for my husband,myself and my parents we originally was meant to stay in a hotel down the road but they messed our booking up and moved us to the valadier. When we got into the room there was buliding work going on on the roof, my parents where oppisite us and couldnt belive the noise and there room smelt really bad like a sewer.We had a few drinks that night in the bar and was told there was a private party in the piano bar and asked to leave we then found out there was no party going on. The bar tender sergio was very rude and didnt want us in the bar. That night I was awoken by water dripping onto the bed from the celling where the work men damaged the roof. We were then moved to another room where the shower didnt work. After all of this we were still expected to pay the full price and were eventually offered a poxy 25 euro's of the bill. Other than that the rooms were well decorated but wouldn't stay there again which is a shame.

Our bathroom at the Hotel Valadier smelled like a sewer. We told the staff and they said there was a problem which they would fix. They did not and we suffered all week. The outside noise from the street kept us up all night. The yelling in the street was so loud. Again the staff said it would stop. It did not until an alarm went off and I think the police came. The hotel staff appeared to understand but never corrected any problem. The bathroom smell never went away and they said it was because of a roof repair. Sounded odd to us. It is NOT a hotel we would reccomend.

Organise a car to pick you up in advance .... I pre booked a chauffeur driven car to pick us up at the airport ... just 35 euros to the heart of the city from FCO. Good value. Found them on the web ...

Our worst meal in Italy... After our recent trip to the Vatican we were hungry and it had started raining so we headed for the first cafe we saw which was the "The Universal Bar" on Via Della Conciliazione, Rome ( on the left hand side of the of the road leading up to St Peter's Basilica). This proved to be a big mistake. We ordered 2 pizzas, a side salad, a beer, a coke, and a bottle of water. The pizzas were disgusting, and had clearly been made with no care of effort and with very low quality ingredients; the salad was limp and looked like it had been thrown together; and the service was terrible. The table next to us sent two dishes back, one was a horrible looking steak which was replaced with an equally horrible looking steak. When it started to rain an elderly couple, who were sitting outside on another table, asked to move as they had no protection from the rain and their request was refused by the stroppy waiter / "maitre'd" who told them that they could not move tables because it would mess up the ordering system, so they sat trying to eat their soggy lunch holding maps over their heads for protection. It was the worst place we have ever eaten. Our bill came to 60 euros, which included 8 euros for a medium sized glass of lager; and a charge for cover and service - which would have been laughable if it hadn't have felt like such a rip off. We can truly say it was our worst dining experience in Italy. Just as a point to note too, this restaurant appears to be one a small chain of restaurants in Rome, another of which is in a side street near to the Spanish Steps which looks like a traditional little pizzeria / ristorante. We nearly ate there but left when we noticed on the back of the menu that it was affiliated with the Bar Universal in Via Della Conciliazione. We felt like we had a narrow escape. As people who enjoy eating out, and do so a lot, we feel quite passionate about good food and good service, especially when you are usually expected to part with a lot of your hard earned cash for the experience. Bar Universal was a terrible experience and one we would not recommend to anyone. Just as a point to note too, this restaurant appears to be one a small chain of restaurants in Rome, another of which is in a side street near to the Spanish Steps which looks like a traditional little pizzeria / ristorante.
