Top Local Tips for Rome

Street Vendors Please be careful of the street vendors who walk along selling their wares. Many of them are not licensed (or do not have permission to be selling) and will use all kinds of tactics to get you to buy their stuff. Keep telling them "No" and they will drop their price, as the longer a sale takes, the higher their risk of being seen/caught by police. Be careful of those who put jewelry on your arm, or thrust flowers into your hands. Be insistent if you don't want to buy and give them back what they've given you. Never pay the first price they give you, if you want the item. The vendors with the stands on the corners (which are usually large) were not a problem for us.

metro The metro is easy to get about on with only two lines ,a, and b, it only costs 1 euro for a 75 min ticket and will get you from the termini station to the vatican in under 15 mins

Use your plastic! If you are going to use cash in Italy, use your debit card to withdrawal cash. You get a much better exchange rate as you get the rate that banks give each other. You also don't have to pay the exchange fees charged by Italian banks and exchange offices. (your bank my charge you a small fee, but it will be much less than the cost of exchanging cash)
