we arrived at 11pm and there was no food available. In the evenings the restaurant was closed and we had to go to a local restaurant, it was fantastic. Rooms very basic and the shower was tiny. The vatican was very hard to reach and we could never have walked to it. Would not recommend this hotel.

Rooms are small and pretty basic, set in blocks at the rear of the hotel, but the breakfasts are excellent and the evening meal good without going overboard. Good location for exploring the sights of Rome.Buy a combined bus and metro ticket for 2,3, or 4 days at the bar, get the bus from out side the hotel to the Cornelia metro station and away you go. It's very easy to navigate around Rome via the metro. Taxis back to the airport are a set rate of 35 euros when it's time to leave.

When we arrived in Rome we didn't hold the greatest expectations of the hotel. We, after all, were students and constrained to a budget. Unfortunately all cheaper hotels were booked up already, but we managed to get two rooms in this hotel relatively cheap (but only because breakfast was inclusive, and good).

First impressions were good. The buildings are modern, and the front desk helpful. They weren't ready for us to check in, so our bags were locked in a safe area giving us time to explore.

The rooms are small, but we weren't wanting a palace. We didn't come to Rome for the hotel after all. The bathroom was generally nice, clean, but a small shower. There are safe's in the cupboards but instructions on how to use them seem to be in some rooms and not others.

One of our rooms was very clear and tidy, however our other room had some marks on the walls, and a bit of blood on the sheet. I know, it sounds horrible already! But, a quick visit to the front desk got the problem sorted. They were very apologetic.

So.. Breakfast. What a treat! As much as you can eat within a certain time period, up till 10:30am i think it was. Includes hot drinks and juices. Perfect for students trying to avoid spending money on big lunches.

When we wanted a meal out, but didn't fancy another trip on the bus, the hotel restaurant was great. Very well cooked food, and a nice traditional menu. Not overly expensive, but slightly more up market than in town.

Location isn't ideal, but the bus service is cheap (if you want to pay) and free if you just hop on. No one really checks your tickets.

Otherwise... I really liked the hotel. Good looks, not overly expensive, very helpful front desk, good food. Any problems we had were resolved efficiently. And that can make a huge difference to my holidays. G

This hotel is also known as the Domus Pacis...We followed the directions from the airport: Took the train to Rome, took the Metra then waited at the bus stop, 889, for over an hour before these two nuns walked up and told us, in Italian, that the bus does not run on Sunday.....We had carried our luggage up and down subway stairs, escalators, train station, etc. I was so frustrated by the time we got there that I was pleased to have a nice room. The grounds of the hotel are lovely but you have to walk through them to get to your room...and there is no public space in the buildings which house the rooms, so if you get up at night or want to leave the room for any reason to read or whatever, you have to walk to the main building which is ok in good weather. Our room was pleasant and had a nice bathroom with bidet. The halls are tiled so if you are a light sleeper the wheels of rolling luggage being pulled down the halls in the morning could wake one. The restaurant, which has the included breakfast, is lovely and there is a very good assortment of foods, coffees, etc.
The lobby is wonderful as is the terrace which overlooks the grounds and old, old chapel. The personnel are mostly friendly and helpful. Maria in the dining room is always pleasant.
We were pickpocketed on the bus to the metra, and I was prepared for them, I thought. I would hide ALL money and credit cards. They were in a group of 4 and rude. The second time on the bus I actually saw this man's hand in my husband's empty pocket...must have been a beginner.
When we were leaving we asked them to call a cab for us. After about 20 minutes my husband went to the desk and she told him that the cabs were not coming to the hotel that day and to walk up to the Westin, probably because it was drizzling. We dragged our luggage down the driveway, down the narrow sidewalk, to the Westin. We did get a great cab....it is a good thing we had plenty of time.
I would recommend this hotel to people who are traveling with a tour group and have a bus to pick them up and drive them around. The public transportation can be very stressful. I would stay there again, only if the weather were warm and someone was driving us around....

This hotel was great value for money. It was a really nice place to stay. It was a 10 min walk from the metro station and only two stops from the vatican. The staff was very nice and very helpfull. The rooms were clean and the hotel surroundings were fab. The restaurant food was good and breakfast was also excellent (except for the sausages!) I would stay here again.

I was actually dreading staying here after reading other reviews on Venere.com about this hotel but, I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is slightly out of the way but you can get 98 or 889 to Cornelia nearby and from there you can get the metro to anywhere in the city. The staff I found were very nice and helpful. The breakfast is good. The hotel grounds are lovely and peaceful. Our room wasn't that large but very clean and very large comfortable beds! You will be awoken early by people traipsing their luggage etc up and down the stairs. You can get bus tickets at the bar in the hotel for the week which cover both Metro/bus for 16 euros each for adults and children are free! I would perhaps next time stay somewhere more central but the bus stop is directly outside the hotel. Overall I found this hotel very good value for money etc.

Bad Location

from KBoogie
Spend the extra $$$ and get a hotel in a better location. If you are trying to save money, remember that you will spend $$ on transportation to/from the city's sites from this hotel. If you like taxis vs. public transportation (or if you want to come back to the hotel later at night and are not comfortable with public transportation at this hour) this can get expensive. This hotel is not within walking distance to any major attractions. I did not have any housekeeping issues with the hotel - but nothing makes up for the hassle of the location, in my opinion. This hotel was part of a tour, so I did not have a choice. If I did, I would have gone to venere.com and found a better located hotel for around the same price (like Hotel Embassy).

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. It was a great disappointment. The bathroom walls and shower curtains had mold. Housekeeping did not clean the floors or the bathroom all week. On the last day we returned to our room to find we did not have ANY toilet paper nor was the bed made.

On the day we arrived our room was not ready. We told them we needed to have lunch anyway. They informed us there was no room for us to eat in the hotel restaurant. We went across the street for 2.75 hours and the room was still not ready.

The rooms are furnished sparsely-no place to put anything in the bathroom. The light fixture is so low behind the headboard that you will surely hit your head even though the room has 10' ceilings.

The small courtyard in the middle of the building did not have any lighting.

The location is not close to anything. It is possible to take a bus to the metro but there was always a 20 minute wait to catch the bus at the metro station to go back to the hotel.

The hotel offers a breakfast in the morning starting at 7:00 am. About 20 people entered the restaurant at 2 minutes to 7:00am. The buffet was ready and people began the buffet line. The waitress SCREAMED that everyone should leave for a few minutes!!!

grande bargain

very pleasantly surprised by this hotel .the setting was beautiful with it being built around the monastery. the breakfast was american style with so much choice and eat as much as you like. if there was a minus to the hotel it is quite a distance from the centre of rome , but once you get the hang of the bus routes and at 4 euros to ride bus tram metro and train all day it dosnt break the ban k. all in all well worth the 110 e. p.s.for four nights bed and breakfast

Excellent Choice

from seateacher
I rate hotels based on quality vs price. This was a terrific hotel for the price. Nice lobby, beautiful grounds nice front desk staff. A quiet refuge from a noisy city. The rooms are simple but clean, no this is not for snobs, but you aren't paying $300 per night either.

Restaraunt in the hotel is good and breakfast is fine and free, there are also three places to eat within walking distance, all good. You have to take cabs to get to places from this hotel, just budget for it. Cabs in Rome are reasonable and it is too big to walk everywhere like you can in Florence or other towns. The subway is not like Paris or London, it is hard to use and doesn't go to enough places.

Email me for specific advise, I will answer. This was a good choice for me.

Decent for the price

from jaynespace
Despite some of the horrific reviews posted here I found Hotel Domus Pacis to be completely sufficient for the seven nights we just stayed there. The rooms were clean if sparse and tiled and of a decent size. The staff were cooperative if not proactive and the morning breakfasts were comparable to what you get in other European budget hotels. It's true that the hotel is located in the suburbs, but the Aurelia neighborhood is a nice slice of modern Roman life with many bars offering delicious panini at cheap prices. The bus comes right up the busy street to the hotel's entrance and the Cornelia metro station is not a terrible walk if you're used to taking public transportation in your own city. However, if you hate the metro and buses and need creature comforts and plush carpet, spend some extra cash and stay somewhere more central and more like an American hotel.

t stay there again

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel has a nicely decorated lobby, gardens and restaurant. The restaurant is not accessible though and the rooms were small and dormlike. The bathroom was dirty with mold in the shower, cobwebs on the ceiling and leaks. It was air conditioned and close to Rome by bus (on a crazy trafficky street and the staff won't tell you what you need to do to catch the bus). I would not stay there again.

First impressions of Hotel Domus Pacis are favourable. The main building is set within attractive grounds and is modern in appearance. The foyer/reception area is impressive with its spacious design, air conditioning and user friendly layout. But, dear reader, this building only houses the convention centre and the large dining room. The hotel's accommodation is a few hundred yards away from this building and comprises of four rather non descript blocks, each four storeys high and accessible via a broad pathway leading from the aforementioned convention centre/reception area. Access to the rooms is via stairwells...there are NO lifts so potential guests with disabiities should be aware of this. The rooms themselves are small, spartan but clean. They comprise of twin beds (pushed together to make a double!), a bedside cabinet and single chair, wardrobe and bracket mounted cable tv. An air conditioning unit is positioned above the door. The bathroom is also very small and comprises w/c, bidet, washbasin and shower with shower curtain. We found the latter to be problematical as it was well nigh impossible to make it water tight. Consequently after each shower we had to spend much time mopping the floor! Room service changed the towels each day and refreshed toiletries. Bed linen is changed twice weekly. During our stay (August) the hotel catered for large parties of teenagers. Consequently there was a good deal of noise pollution! A buffet style breakfast was served daily in the dining hall comprising of breakfast cereals, fruit salad, croissants, ham, cheese, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, coffee and fruit juice. Evening meals were available a la carte and could be served in the dining room or in the very pleasant alfresco dining area. The standard of the cuisine was very good and prices were reasonable. Although several kms outside the centre of Rome, the nearby local bus/metro transport system was both regular and inexpensive, making travel to and from the city very easy. To sum up, this is a reasonable, no frills 3 star hotel. If you want somewhere in the budget price range just to lay your head in the vacinity of Rome, then this hotel will suffice. However, if you crave life's little luxuries then look elsewhere and be prepared to spend a little more!

we will never forget the horrible experience! negavitve one star

from A TripAdvisor Member
I will never forget the traumatic experience trhat we had at the wonderful domus pacis. my cousin and my sister both gree with me that it was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. The lobby is reasonable for an average hotel. To get to the rooms you ahve to go thrpough a rocky path filled with dirt, rocks, and bark. The rooms are indescribable. first of all, there is no carpet and its a cement floor. There was a hole next to my bed, and there were black footprints on the walls everywhere. The sheets were gross and dirty. The bathroom was gross and there was like leftover grime on the floor. We encountered millions of insects also. In the morning, have fun trying to hget breakfast if you are not there before 7 am because the food disspears and i was stuck with toast in a bag and mineral water. needless to say, it was bad. next time, i wont travel with a tour group and i have learned to know that italy is best experienced oif you travel with your family and you stay at good hotels. rome was cool.

Dorm-style rooms, nice outdoor garden

from J144
We were set up at Hotel Domus Pacis as part of a tour of Italy. The outside of the hotel was very nice, and surrounded a beautiful little courtyard area with outdoor seating. The desk staff was somewhat cold to us, but were nonetheless accomodating. The rooms were dorm-style, with very little embelishment and two twin beds. The main issue was the location-- DO NOT WALK TO THIS HOTEL from the Metro. Cars whip around that corner and do not see pedestrians on the side of the road, and in some areas there are no sidewalks. We were able to take a bus to the Metro to get to the areas of Rome that we wanted to see, but the buses were not reliable and we waited up to half an hour every time we needed a bus. I suggest staying at a hotel more accessible to a Metro stop if you want to see a lot of Rome. If you do stay at this hotel, try the restaurant across the street. One of our favorite meals from the entire trip was there.

pretty on the outside, not that pretty inside

from TiggerBear
Stayed there as part of a tour group. Looks okay as you enter...private driveway. Lobby was clean enough, although they white furniture was kinda dirty. I was expecting the rooms to be in the premises, but you actually have to exit outside where there are different buildings each with 3 floors. As luck would have it, we were on the top floor in our building. Pro: no lizards running around in our room like our fellow travelers. Con: no elevators...meaning we had to lug our 60 pound luggages up by ourselves (no porters were kind enough to help 2 girls). Oh, if you don't like mosquitoes, keep your windows locked, although they still manage to get in. Another major con: hotel is not walking distance to any major tourist spot....it's not even on the map. Need to take the bus, then the metro. Otherwise, ok hotel if you're on a budget.
