Had a wonderful stay at Hotel Savoy. Location is great and the room was beautiful. Not a lot of amenities but the breakfast was wonderful and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

I booked this hotel from their official web site and found a very good offer. Location was actually perfect, at walking distance from almost everything! The hotel is clean, has good service, good eating and attentive staff. Right prices to be in the very centre of the city.

Wedding anniversary spent in one of the most beautiful city of the world! And the Savoy was perfect part of it. Perfectly located, warm welcome, good service, great eating, honest prices. We really suggest this hotel.

Very Scary

Here goes on the Savoy OH MY GOD!!! The room we stayed in was in a hall that was falling down I mean the plaster was off the walls ceiling coming down. Very dark and Scary. I can't believe they still rent these rooms to real people. May be the homeless!!! Of coarse the pictures on the net looked good. I think they have a section somewhere that has a nice room or two. Oh yes we never seen anyone the whole time we were there in the halls until we were leaving and another couple was on the elevator. They had the same response we did. The food was very good though!!!

Attractive hotel with a great location. Rooms a little small but perfectly adequate. Pleasant, courteous, and helpful staff. Breakfast was fair.

I found this hotel has a very convenient location: it's just off Via Veneto and was perfect for my business appointments daytime and for leisure after work. Staff was very kind and helpfull suggesting the best way to hang out Rome. The room was quiet and absolutely clean - I booked a standard room at a corporate rate.
I can sincerely say that the Hotel Savoy will be my hotel in Rome.

I found this hotel via their mbetravel.com website. It was offering a really good deal so I booked it and received confirmation of my booking by email. HOWEVER, the next day I got another email from the hotel this time to tell me that it was a mistake and that I must either pay a rate three times as much or canceI the booking. Their excuse was that they were in the process of changing data on the website.

A sorry state of affairs

AFTER the hotel had confirmed my internet booking, they emailed me saying that the price had been altered to a figure more than double the advertised price and that I must either pay the extra or cancel my booking!!

Shabby and poor service

I was overbooked into this hotel. It certainly doesn't stand up to the competition in Rome. Check-in was a mess, with the front desk explaining to a client how HE had made mistakes in his reception for several rooms. They made me wait for a fair while as it needed two people to resolve the other problem. They also made the mistake of thinking that a British passport means that one cannot speak Italian - it's not good for staff to look at a new guest and say "he's not important".

Room was small and looked over the street - decent double glazing. Their fire door system provided for an additional door between the room lobby and the bedroom. This had a hole in, which meant that it would not be much use in a fire. The hotel didn't seem bothered, which is not a good indication for their security regime. Bed was soft and room furnishings had seen better days - the hotel as a whole could do with a refurbishment.

Breakfast was OK, but again rude staff. Checkout also OK, but had to wait for 15 mins for a cab as it took the concierge 10mins to work out that cabs don't drive around looking for business in weekday Rome at 9am.

In summary, the hotel was nothing special and very expensive. I'd look more closely at higher rated local hotels before going to the Savoy again.

Wonderful Stay

My wife and daughter and I just returned from our 5 day stay in Rome at the Savoy and would recommend this hotel. Staff was professional, knowledgeable and the hotel met our expectations in all respects. Location is great to see all the attractions and all within walking distances. The spanish steps are 5 minutes away, restaurants are a plenty. We are looking forward to our return trip back to the Savoy.

The Savoy was a great hotel. Staff was friendly and the location was great. It was a 10 minute walk to almost everything. However, I thought the hotel could have been nicer since it is rated with 4 stars.

This hotel is NOT what i would call a 4 star hotel
the staff were nice but the room left a lot to be disired, also it took "2" days to get a shirt ironed,but the location is pretty good!!!

Concierge-Friendly/Service-Oriented Four Star+ Hotel - Excellent!!

I have stayed at this hotel three times since 2002. And this March I not only took my mother, but her best friend who is 80 years-old and who has never been to Italy as well as my 60-year-old cousin. All were pampered and so very attentively assisted. In fact, their awesome Concierge, Ceasare and his staff, went to great lengths to secure Ballet tickets for our entire group. I saw his staff member catch a cab and about 20 minutes later he had four excellent tickets in hand for that evening's performance. A few days later I had a slight medical emergency and Ceasare immediately arrived at our room with multiple medical resources that assisted me.

This hotel is beautifully appointed, right in Rome's most exclusive area - Via Veneto. The rooms (newly decorated), service (Cesare is a great concierge)and breakfast (which is included in price - includes anything from eggs, bacon, cereal, cappuccino, italian pastries, juices and so many Italian breakfast treats) are all exceptional!

The management takes great pride in the property and works diligently to ensure that ALL their guests have happy memories and this attitude guarantees a return visit.

I have been so pleased with this hotel that my sister, her newborn 6-month-old baby, her sister-in-law and her friend were all there this Fall.

It seems that not only do I return, but I return with new guests that bring their guests - this is the best testimony - word-of-mouth testimonials!

I welcome anyone who reads this review to add this hotel to their "favorite hotel list" - you will be most pleased and excited that you chose it!

I will be there is March, 2005 with other guests and I can hardly wait to experience LA DOLCE VITA through the SAVOY HOTEL!!

We have just returned from our stay at the Hotel Savoy. We found it very clean & comfortable. The room was quite small but tastefully decorated, with a good size bathroom. The breakfast was very good. We had no complaints with the staff. The hotel is in an excellent location, just minutes from the Spanish Steps, with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. We would definately stay here again.

Pleasantly surprised

The Savoy's location was very good and was steps away from many of the more expensive luxury hotels. We were pleasantly surprised when we showed up at 9 AM and were given a room immediately (we have been led to expect a STRICT check-in time of 12 PM from other reviews of Italian hotels). The room was clean and it's size and furnishings were typical. The breakfast was very good and featured eggs and "sausages", pastries, meats and cheeses, yogurt and cereal and fruit. The staff was helpful and courteous. When in Rome again, I would definitely consider this hotel (especially given the reasonable room rate of $151)

Top Local Tips for Rome

Watch your Valuables Be careful with your valuables. Yes, you can be pick-pocketed from your front pockets! The Subway and buses are cheap and easy to use.

Siesta... Many of the shops close for siesta in the afternoon...and on Sundays most of the stores are closed in Rome all day.

Visiting the Vatican Joining a group bus tour of the Vatican was a mistake. Next time, I will see about hiring a private guide just for this site. The group missed so much of the world famous art museum, including the sculpture. The Sistine Chapel experience was a surprise. Expect an empty room filled body-to-body with standing tourists, all trying to look up. St. Peter's was breathtaking. The tour didn't spend enough time and we only saw part of it.
