A Big Thumbs Up

Even though this hotel was rated 2 stars when we read the reviwes, we felt it was comporable to a 4 star hotel in the U.S.
This hotel has 26 rooms, is in a nice part of town and is in a convenient location. It is walking distance to the metro (where you can take a subway to various parts of the city). And also walking distance to the Trevi Fountain. The front desk can also arrange cab service on the spot for you.
The Rooms were updated, very clean, and had all the conveniences - private marble bathroom, tv/cable, internet access, air conditioning. They also had a decent spread at breakfast - cakes, breads, hardboiled eggs, cereal, yogourt, juices....
We were able to email this hotel prior to our trip and get more details on the area. Through email we were also able to arrange a private car service to and from the airport (cost $60-68 Euros each way).
This hotel will arrange side trips for you through private tour services and you book for the next day for the day trips (Example: 4 hour trip to Tivoli - $50 euros/pp - booked the day before). The staff is very friendly and very helpful. We will stay here again if/when we return to Rome - Great Place!

Nice cozy hotel, allowed us to check in early
from A TripAdvisor Member
We arrived from our cruise in the morning and got to the hotel at around 10AM. They checked if they had a room available (and they did) and allowed us to check in early, and we were able to enjoy the day in Rome with our luggage safely tucked away in the hotel.
The room was somewhat small, compared to US hotels but that is expected; however the bed was big and the ceilings are very high which I really liked. The bathroom is all marble and they seem to pay attention to the little details, providing lots of shampoo, soap, ect.
They provided some complimentary fruit which we ate. We left really early in the morning so we did not get a chance to eat breakfast.
It is a little far away from the Vatican, but close to the other major sites such as the spanish steps. In any case, you can easily take a bus and get almost anywhere in rome in 30 minutes or less.

Hotel BAILEY'S, VIA FLAVIA 39, ROME - ITALY : MAGNIFICENT
It has been over a month, after staying at BAILEY'S for our honeymoon and our mind is still there. We have told all our friends about the hotel, the Excellent service, the smile of the staff and most of all their humanity and kindness.
We suggest this SPESIFICAL HOTEL without any second thouths, becouse except from the aboves that fullfilled our hearts with joy, THIS HOTEL is very comfortable, clean all day, with double beds and excellent and fast Room Service.
The Breakfast was extremely good, containing lot of food.
Also, i must say that it is only 10MIN away from the Center Of Rome, by walking and 5MIN from the Train Station.

As a Travel Agent I have many opportunities to not only book clients in hotels, but also to stay in hotels myself when I escort groups on travel. I am so pleased to have found The Bailey's Hotel on Via Flavia, Rome. I stayed at The Bailey's in both April and May, 2005, each time with a group I was escorting. How refreshing to find a hotel that is very comfortable, in an excellent location and includes an outstanding breakfast for the guests. Add to this the dedicated attention from a very professional staff that is unrelenting in their effort to make your stay so pleasant.
Making arrangements for a group to stay at a hotel requires extensive arrangements with the office staff. My many E-mails to the reservation agent were answered promptly and all my concerns addressed. My groups arrive from the US having flown overnight and are tired, hungry and having to cope with jet lag. The hotel staff at The Bailey's moved quickly to get the travelers to their rooms, directed them to local restaurants for their lunch and made every effort to get them settled in and ready to enjoy their visit to Rome.
I am confident that hotels that make groups feel so welcome are hotels that really understand the hospitality business. The Bailey's Hotel is an outstanding boutique style hotel and I plan to place my groups there in the future, knowing that my clients will be exceptionally pleased with their stay.

Select area, delightful staff

We did alot of research before booking this hotel and were relieved that it was as good as we had hoped, if not better. Whilst the rooms may not be as spacious as many a four star hotel's they have beautiful furnishings, are very comfortable and clean with excellent bathrooms. Breakfast was good and the bar area and lobby cosy, but what really made it for us was the staff. We found them all very courteous, helpful and engaging. They recommended some excellent local restaurants and answered all our enquiries in a very friendly and professional manner. The location, away from the main tourist drag, was what we'd wanted and we weren't disappointed. It may have been five or ten minutes further away from some of the sights than other hotels but it was peaceful and had a 'local' feel to it. In any case, walking a few more metres made us feel less guilty about the constant stream of delicious food and drink we were powerless to resist.
We plan to return to Rome, as we only had four days here and there is so much more to see, and we would definitely stay at The Bailey's again.

Elegant Gem of a Hotel!

We took our teenage son to Rome the third week in April, and stayed in connecting rooms (one double and one single) on the 5th floor. Although our son's single had only a small window opening onto an interior open stairwell (which made it a bit dark), the situation in every other respect was superb. The rooms were fairly large with high ceilings, gorgeous furnishings, and fabulous marble bathrooms. Maid service was outstanding; the rooms were immaculately clean, with towels changed twice a day, and crisp sheets changed daily. Breakfasts also were excellent, with a fine assortment of cold meats, boiled eggs, fruits, breads, cakes, cereal, milk, and juices served on lovely place settings in an interior room. Particularly memorable was the friendly, efficient staff, who bent over backwards to make our stay pleasant. Simona, who often was behind the main desk, worked miracles getting last-minute restaurant reservations for us at delightful places, and Mauro gave much helpful advice on sightseeing and transportation. The hotel is not in the heart of the tourist areas, but that did not bother us, as it was quiet and cozy, and only about a fifteen minute walk from major attractions.
Lovely Hotel

This is our fourth visit to Rome and the first time to stay at Hotel Bailey's. Four of us stayed here during the weekend of Valentine's day and Wales v Italy in Rugby. The hotel was excellent and some of the comments below running the hotel down is hard to believe. The two bedrooms we had on the 5th floor were large, spotlessly clean and pleasantly decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful and location hotel although slightly off the main road was within easy walking distance of major attractions. We found an excellent restaurant on the same road, can't remember the name but it had a large yellow sign outside!
W would come back to this hotel again as others we have stayed in didn't come anywhere near to the high standard of the Bailey's.
p.s. Wales beat Italy.

Just what we needed!

Have just returned from 3 nights at this hotel with our two year old daughter. The staff couldn't have been nicer. We arrived early at 12 noon to drop our bags off and they got our room ready in only ten minutes. A nice touch was getting the curtains closed and beds turned down in the evening.
The breakfast was great and my daughter loved the choice. We were in a large spacious room on the 6th floor and it was so quiet we all slept until 9am! The only negative point was we would have preferred a bathroom with a shower but our daughter loved the shower anyway.
The local restuarants were good value and very friendly. It was very easy to get to the hotel from both Termini station and Republica metro stop. Lots of buses on Via XX Septembre so you can be outside the Vatican in less than 15 minutes. We walked to the Spanish Steps in less than twnty mintues, even pushing a buggy!
We would love to go back once Ryan Air run the next 99p flight promotion. And our daughter keeps asking to go back to stay at the 'Man's house'!
(got a good deal through using AirMiles too)

Dissapointing and Dreary

i have just got back from Rome where I had the misfortune to stay at this hovel. The web site paints a very deceptive picture of what to expect when you first walk through the door of this so called 4 star hotel... For a start the reception staff are indifferent to the point where we actually stood at the reception desk for 5 minutes before anyone asked us if they could help us... After checking'in we had to take our own bags upstairs as the porter apparently didn't turn up for work. Our complimentary fruit basket had been "forgotten" and only arrived after we called reception to complain! When it did arrive it may as well not have - the bananas were so green I would have to stayed there for a month before they were edible! Breakfast was ok and the bed was comfortable but I wouldn't suggest this hotel to anyone looking for a proper 4 star hotel as even the location leaves a lot to be desired with the nearest attraction the Spanish Steps being at least a half hour walk away.

Dear garymccormack12@yahoo.co.uk, after 4 days that we wrote to you, we did not receive any reply about your arrival date in our hotel and, after checked our files, we did not found any guests with your e-mail name in January 2005.
Please, we still ask you to write us when you checked in at the hotel and your name to be able to intervene with the porter and waiters to take measures to make amends.
Best regards

Clean and good location
from sb_2004
Recently stayed here in a family suite. It was clean and in a good location. The staff were friendly and provided a map and information on transportation to the sites, restaurants etc. Although nice, I didn't think it was not worth $500 euro per night. If we go back to Rome we would stay closer to the Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain - that area seemed quite nice and more central.

Amazing history Plan each day around areas. You will need a whole day for Vatican City and St Peters. The Forum, Colosseum and Circus Maximus are close together and can be done in half a day, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon are all within walking disatnce of each other with loads of fountains, churches, squares and other bits and bobs on the way, probably another half day.
