I have stayed twice at this hotel, everything you should expect at this level, luxurious rooms,excellent service, a beautifull Michelin * restaurant with amazing views, the only minus was the almost total lack of storage space for clothes etc. This for reasons i cant fathom is not unique to this establishment but at these prices its unacceptable not to be able to hang a suit up, I would still thoroughly recommend this hotel. It really is 5*.

WARNING!!! AWFUL!!!

What a facade!! Smart looking doorman and receptionists, but terrible manners. They were not kind to us, greeted us with barely a fake smile. Eyed us up and down as if we were vagabonds. I don't know if it was because we are young and we were traveling with our 3yr old daughter. Regardless, we were celebrating our 5yr anniversary and we paid good money to stay at this over priced hotel. Three diff. times my husband would stand at the front desk waiting for one of the many staff members to acknowledge his presence to no avail. Then a handsome Italian walks in and before he reaches the desk they all turn and ask how they can help. Only then would my husband get assistance. He made me talk to the concierge for the rest of our stay. I was more successful because I'm a woman and they thought I was Italian, but the double standard totally offended me.
Our non-smoking room reeked of (thick) recent smoke. The maid MUST have been smoking in our room. It was so creepy to retire to our room every night knowing that strangers were around our things chain smoking.
The decor was so faux "Vegas". It did not have that elegant feel I thought it would from pictures. Nothing authentic. Think gold spray paint, busy, chintzy, gaudy.
Seriously, the restaurant view and food was quite wonderful.
But again the maitre d' did everything possible to make us feel uncomfortable and incompetent. The waiters were nice.

Nuetral on the Splendide Royale

Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious. The hotel staff did not cater to the vactioner instead more interested in the business crowd. For the money, I'd next time try either the Grand or Majestic. I enjoyed our time more in Venice (my personal favorite) and Florence. Make sure breakfast is included in your rate.
Charming and comfortable hotel

The Splendide Royal is a comfortable, friendly hotel, on a quiet street right next to the Villa Boghese. One can walk to Via Veneto (less than 5 minutes) and to the Spanish Steps (less than 10 minutes) and the Bernini metro stop (less than 10 minutes).
The staff is friendly, particularly Ivan. The room was very nicely decorated and my room faced a quiet courtyard. The bathroom was modern and clean, a good-sized bedroom with minibar and safe. Unfortunately, no internet data port in the room, even though this is listed as such on the online travel booking site I used. This was a particular annoyance for me. There is a dial-up computer in the sitting room one can use, however.
The staff also arranged train tickets for me, although the reservation was a bit confused and I did not have time to correct it before I left Rome, so I had to deal with lines at the train station. Not really the fault of the hotel, although when I went to correct the problem, I found the hotel staff a bit reluctant to help me the morning of departure.
I would stay here again though. Great location, beautiful hotel, and mostly helpful staff.

Fantastic hotel

I booked two superior rooms at this hotel for 3 nights in June to celebrate my father's birthday. We had stunning rooms on the top floor complete with balconies overlooking the city. My partner and I also had a huge jacuzzi bath with double doors that opened out on to the balcony also.
The hotel overlooks the Borghese gardens and is located in a relatively peaceful part of the city. We found the staff to be friendly but not obtrusive and the breakfast was fantastic - especially the cappucino! Will hopefully be coming back one day!!

Absolutely fabulous view of rome; we arrived on time, with reservations, close to sunset and were promptly shown to a table far away from the windows. We requested a table outside and were advised that we would have to wait a while. The Maitre'd then tossed the menu at us - and told me he would seat us when we ordered - (from the waiting area). I found this offensive - apparently he did not like the fact that I did not have a jacket (nor tie) on - but about half the patrons were dressed similarly.... my wife and child were in dresses. The staff sensed that I had been offended and was very accomodating.
The Food was good.
If a restaurant desires to have a dress code it should enforce it, and not offend by making one uncomfortable, especially when I was spending 325 for dinner! MY hotel Concierge who made the reservation should have indicated "jackets desired".... or better yet the restaturant could provide a jacket..... It was also rare to have further comment made by the maitre'd upon leaving...

Stayed here early July 2004 and the hotel is excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful, spoke very good English and the food is superb. Rooms are very clean and well kept. Found the hotel very quiet and often wondered if anyone else was staying!
Breakfast is buffet style with good continental selection, ideal before you walk the lengths of Rome!
The Hotel offers one of the most exclusive restaurants in Rome which we dined in on the first night. The food is superb, the view is amazing as you see the city from seven floors up without obstruction. If you choose to eat here (open to hotel guests and non-guests) and want a table on the terrace, book early or you will be disappointed. Beyond smart evening attire, men are requested to wear jackets.
No other facilities used in the hotel (small fitness room available).

Splendide Royal was a great choice

I recently returned from a 2-wk (much too short) mother-daughter visit to Italy. Our first week there was spent with a tour that ended in Rome. All of our accommodations more than lived up to their 5-star rating, including and especially, the last one, the Parco dei Principi in Rome, part of the same hotel group as the Splendide. As a result, I had truly been spoiled and the Splendide had a high bar to meet. Because there are so few reviews on the hotel, I was slightly nervous about staying there. As it turned out, we couldn't have been happier with the Splendide - our room was beautiful (although not the view), the staff was very friendly, helpful, and many spoke English; and the location, just a short walk down a hill to the top of the Spanish steps! An easy walk to the Via Veneto shopping area and, of course, the many historic sites of Rome. The only reason I didn't give the hotel an Excellent rating is because I just didn't feel as "pampered" as I had during our stay at its sister hotel, the Parco dei Principi, where the housekeeping staff seemed to come every time we left to freshen up our room. This was not the case at the Splendide, but that does not mean their housekeeping staff was less than thorough. If I'm ever lucky enough to return to Rome, I'd gladly stay here again.

Out of all the hotels we stayed at on our tour of Italy, this was my absolute favorite! The Splendide is a sophisticated city hotel which offers very warm and personal service. Our room was beautiful and the staff could not have been more gracious and helpful. The Mirabelle restaurant offered not only delicious food, but an incredible view of the Vatican. Even if I hadn't thrown "three coins into the Trevi Fountain", I'd still return to the Splendide Royal in Rome!

We stayed at the Splendide Royal for three nights in June during our vacation to Europe. The Hotel was much more reasonably priced than other hotels in its category such as the Hassler or the Westin Excelsior. The location is pretty decent-- about a ten minute walk from the Spanish Steps. The rooms are richly appointed with linen sheets on the beds and spacious marble bathrooms. There was a breakfast buffet included in our meal which was quite good and served on a rooftop terrace with a view of St. Peters. However, I would not pay for the buffet on its own since it runs about 32 Euros.
When in Rome also make sure to eat at La Reina in the Piazza Navona area (#00186 Vicolo di Montevecchio). Great Food in a Local Setting!

I have lived in and traveled to Italy many times in the past 30 years. My wife and I recently returned from a brief visit to Rome and our first-ever stay at the Splendide Royal, a superb, five-star hotel just off the Via Veneto above the Spanish Steps.
It a word, the hotel was SPECTACULAR. The accommodations are exceptional, the room furnishings are perfect, the restuarant exceptional and the rooftop bar offers incredible views of the city below.
Perhaps best of all was the amiable, impeccable service provided by a trio of concierges whose first names are Ivan, Francesco and Fawzi. Whatever we needed, whenever we needed help, they were there - the result was help with tough-to-get reservations at Il Convivio, a last-minute car to the airport, helping us retrieve a scarf left behind or recommendations for a local nightspot frequented only by locals, they were there to help. A GREAT HOTEL AND TERRIFIC PEOPLE MADE THIS A MEMORABLE TRIP.

Top Local Tips for Rome
Getting around Rome We walked around Rome, the best way to get a feel for the place. We always got an english speaking guide, which were fantastic and great value for the money. This is essential to really appreciate the history of Rome
not recommeded massage in Rome I am a masagge addict. In every travel I contact a terapist. I went to some place in Via Veneto, I don't really remenber the name. The massage was very expensive and very basic.
Beggars belief!! What spoilt this whole trip to Rome? - the street "traders" and beggars. I was so tempted to make one of the "bent double, old women", wrapped in headscarves and long coats and hobbling along with a stick rattling a pathetic tin cup, expose "herself". I have a terribly cynical feeling that they would have been much younger and fitter, and possibly less female! The rose sellers around the Trevi Fountain seemed not to understand "no thank you" in any language, however a burst of "****** off" did work eventually. Unfortunately, they are everywhere and completely spoilt the pleasure you get of leisurely approaching a sight and soaking up the atmosphere. The only place free of them was St Peter's Square, but there they were again on the outskirts. The Forum and Colosseum were positively rife with them and on 2 days we saw a group doing a runner into the crowds. There seem to be plenty of police around, but no-one moves them on. Someone in Rome needs to get their act together.

Food was excellent, but only the one restaurant, which wants a tie worn. Okay for an evening, but for a snack it was go out or room service.
Staff all very helpful.
Excellent location, a five minute walk from the spanish steps and the main shopping/tourist areas. Just seemed cramped for a 5 star hotel - but it had the location.
