Good, value for money hotel
from Karan3842We stayed at Hotel Sonya, which I booked directly through their website and without any hassle. The hotel is centrally located near Termini station, (Opposite Opera house) yet away from the crowd and in a quiet area. The staff are very polite and nice. They even guided us how to take the easiest route to see popular monuments. When we were checking out of the hotel to catch an early morning plane, they so kindly packed for us some breakfast to eat later!
The hotel, on arrival, supplies you with a nicely printed good quality city map. There is also a computer in the small lobby with Internet connection, which is free for residents.
The room was very neat and tidy (We took a three-bedded room) and was well-cleaned every day morning after we left for our sight-seeing. Nicely air-conditioned.
The breakfast is fine. (Though we didn't like the heavily sugar-coated croissants). There are a good number of nice restaurants just a block away from the hotel – from Italian to Chinese to Indian.
The downside of the hotel: The shower cubicle is very small. A burly body may find it difficult to enter - leave alone taking a good shower! I hope it is not the same in other rooms. Otherwise, the toilets are clean and hygiene.
Overall, the hotel is good value for money considering Rome as a popular tourist destination.
Very Comfortable

from shirleycoppardHotel Sonya is centrally located so we had no trouble walking to many of the major sights, and the termini is very close by also. There were some nice restaurants near by and the area felt safe to walk around at night.
We would definitely go back to Hotel Sonya again.
Excellent
from OlRuNext time in Rome only Sonya Hotel!
A decent three star hotel
from SteveMolyneuxNot so good points - bathroom a bit small ( but very clean ), shower cubicle not good for anyone claustrophobic.
We paid 100 Euros a night for a double room with b/fast in March 2005.
Overall very good value for money.
Staff second to none.
from honeysusieThe main thing about the hotel though was the staff. They could not do enough for my husband and we were very touched by all the help they gave him.I would recommend this hotel to anyone as good value for money. We would certainly go back again.
Great hotel- we will be back

Tickets for bus transportation We purchased tickets for the public bus system right at the front desk of our hotel (Hotel Sonya) instead of the tobacco shops we had expected to buy them at. The front desk staff was helpful in explaining how the tickets worked.
Go to the restaurant where one meal/ day is cooked by Mama. I forget the name of this place, but supposedly you can ask around about it -- "Mama" (what you actually would think an Italian Mama would look like - older, in raggedy clothes, cookin' up a storm, bossing around her sons) cooks 1 meal / day - there is no menu. Whatever mama is cookin' is what you're eating! I want to say this place was near Campo di Fiore (but not IN Campo di Fiore). This is as authentic Italian as you are going to get! Make sure you ask around for it!
Tour Guides in Rome/Vatican City My only suggestion is to be VERY careful of the tours they suggest because we were ripped off when we booked a tour of the Vatican. At the end of our tour the guide took us to one store about 1 block from the Vatican which totally ripped us off. The guide fed us a story about all the stuff being hand made. I purchased a Rose Scented Rosary for 4 times the price that it was inside the VATICAN. When i tried getting a refund they kicked me out of the store. The guide receives a cut from the total purchases you make. BE VERY AWARE OF THIS!!!! Make sure that you shop around and don’t every buy anything that a tour guide recommends because more than likely there is something in it for them. Oh and make sure that when you book a tour you get one with an ear piece. It can be very hard to hear with 200-300 people in the same place.
