Top Local Tips for Rome
Moving around Rome/Italy Use your credit cards to purchase tickets for bus or train or subway as the exchange rate is better than the banks or money changers at the airport!
Overrated Dining Beware of overrated restaurants. If you love pizza y pasta, head for the neighborhood "tavola calda", where you can pay about 8 EUR for a decent plate of pasta, or 5 EUR for a good pizza. If you are not a serious pasta eater (I am not), then you will have a hard time finding the "tratorias", again, head for a neighborhood tratoria, where you will pay around 9 EUR for a decent plate (i.e. Grilled Meatballs in a fresh tomatoes sauce, or a zucchini and basil lasagna). I found in Via Giulia, one of the most beautiful and hidden streets in the Campo de Fiori quarter such hidden tratorias, with no sign, which allowed me for about 30 EUR to have a decent meal. Beware of any, I repeat any place which calls itself a Restaurant. You will get overpriced food, badly cooked, at least compared with the italian food you can consume in Toronto, or New York. Beware of any place with an italian and english menu, or of the higher prices in the english menu for tourists.
