Take an iron!

The hotel in its self is fine, however, the cost of the drinks are very expensive, in fact, not just expensive but very over priced even for a city hotel. If you need anything ironing you have to use the hotel laundry service which is also very expensive. I found this to be very disappointing. The rooms were nice, the pool was very good, as was the breakfast, but the cost of all the extras did make the stay at this hotel rather disappointing. I would look for an alternative place to stay the next time I go to Rome.

Rooms are small

Room was small but clean. Over all the hotel was nice but the room was very small, the hotel couldn't provide an iron (they said they didn't have them anywhere in housekeeping), and they gave our room out to another traveler who tried to get in it after midnight when we were already asleep in bed. That was interesting. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choices.

Starwoood Preferred Guest

Stayed here for 4 nights in mid-June, and we loved it! Having done research and reading reviews - which were mixed. We checked into the hotel with trepidation, but all was well. We are SPG Gold, and we got a room on the Starwood Preferred Guest floor (4th Floor).

We had a queen size bed (a real queen size bed, and not 2 twins pushed together). The room was spotless. The bathroom all marble, and very clean. The sheets on the bed crisp and white with a light duvet. (We simply took off the bedspread). The housekeeping staff were helpful and friendly. I can't emphasize enough how happy we were with the quality of our room considering everything you hear about hotels in Europe not on par with North American hotels. This is generally true, but with our experience with this Sheraton hotel, it was very much on the same level with ones at home.

The best thing for us was having been given access to the club lounge - which meant free breakfast and snacks throughout the day. Plus a great rooftop patio. You also get free access to internet in the lounge.

The shuttles worked out well for us, as we would leave early in the morning, and come back mid-afternoon for a siesta, and lie by the pool. Then we'd go back into the city for dinner. The shuttles came hourly, and very easy to find as the shuttle has "Sheraton Roma" painted on the bus.

I think this hotel is the best value for your money if you're looking to spend $200 instead of $400 (which is what you would pay for the same quality of hotel within the city centre). Though, I do have to say that try to get a higher floor because I have heard the rooms are not the same on the lower levels. We'd definitely go back and stay at the Sheraton next time we're in Rome!

Not Bad

After seeing a couple of the previous reviews, I was worried
that my family of 4 would have problems here. It was not the case. We
stayed one night on the way home. Everyone from the
front door, check-in, bar, and maids were friendly and helpful.

The room was clean and above Rome standards. We had a
good rate and I felt I got more from this hotel than a 4-star
downtown.

It is a bit of a hassle to ride the bus, but I doubt
it is a vacation killer. The 10E trip to the airport was
great.

Consider this hotel if you get a good rate and are not the type
to be hassled by the bus transfer. To the folks that complained about the
exspensive food and drink; GO INTO ROME! ...and you have not
been to Paris or London lately to know that the prices are not that bad.

Stayed here for a Thurs, Fri, Sat. On Fri and Sat night there was live music in the bar that went until 2-3 AM. We were on what is numbered floor 1, this is floor above the lobby. We overlooked the pool area and the music kept us awake until it stopped. Complaints to the staff did not make any difference. We were not on a business account so buffet breakfast cost 35 Euros. Rooms were OK but no coffee maker and the small fridge was an electronic bar. When a drink was removed its' cost was automatically added to your room bill. They would remove the cost if the drink had in fact not been consumed; although they would send someone to check that this was true.

Ride into town and back can take some time if traffic is heavy. But the ride is free both ways. A couple of times people got off in the EUR district. Once going into town and once on the way back. So this can be done; do not know if all drivers do this but would assume so.

Prices at hotel are higher than in city. An 8 oz Coke was 4.50 Euros at hotel.

Would not stay here agin. Gym looked like it had good equipment and pool was large. Had a very small botique.

Our expectations weren't high after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. We used cash and points through the Starwood club. The hotel is outside the city center but offers a shuttle that runs hourly. If you can avoid eating and drinking in the hotel, I'd recommend it. The beers in the bar were nine Euros (~12 USD) each. Buffet breakfast or diner will run you 35 Euros (~46 USD) per person. The best value (if you have to eat in the hotel) is pizza in the bar. One pizza feeds two for about 15 Euros and it was very good. A warning about staying at this hotel during the sumer... Air condition rooms are advertised but the air conditioner was shut off at 11PM. Also if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, be aware even in non smoking rooms (like ours) people smoke in the hotel and it comes through the air vents. The last airport shuttle is before 6PM so if you are arriving later count on 50 Euros (~65 USD) for a cab. On our next trip we will probably buck up for a nicer hotel closer to the city center.

as mentioned by a previous reviews, it is very important to note the TIMES and LOCATIONS of the airport and downtown shuttles.

two other items to know about transportation: the airport shuttle driver will bill the 5 euro cost of the shuttle to your hotel room. for the downtown shuttle, the termini is always a stop, but the stop near capitol hill is not. check with the driver or take the M subway from the termini.

also, if you miss the downtown shuttle, you can ride the M subway Blue line to a stop that is a 10-15 walk to the hotel. use the automatic machines to buy subway tickets, but note that it does not accept big bills.

the hotel room was very clean, large, and the beds were very comfortable. the complimentary club-room breakfast in the restaurant was delicious and had a large variety of american/italian breakfast items.

excellent hotel to stay at while in rome if you do not mind the 20 min ride to downtown.

we stayed at the sheraton roma between april 2 and april 7th 2005, we can recommend it we only ate the buffet breakfast and bar snacks and they tasted great, please be aware that when we went the shuttle bus from the airport had a final time of 18.45 and we arrived at 20.30 so it was a 31 euro taxi ride ,and leaving the hotel for the airport was the same the first shuttle leaves the Roma at 0700 our flight left at 0620 therefore 31 euros again, and finally we stayed on the second floor, the room was spot on, during our stay we saw inside a first floor room it was clean but was not as well furnished as ours, we would stop there again .....Rod/Ar

OK but not if you want to be at the heart of things

I stayed for 4 nights on business and it was OK but not great. It's a long way from the centre, although there is a free shuttle bus every hour. The first room i was given had not been cleaned but i got no apology. Ok if you are there on business as it's fairly near airport, but not ideal for tourists who like to be near the attractions, as it's miles from anything noteworthy.

We stayed here for 5 nights with Starwood points and overall it worked out fine. Thought I would share some information that I wish I had had prior to getting there. The location is about 20 minutes from town center (depending on traffic) but the bus is punctual (every hour starting at 8am; last bus returns from the city at 10pm). The bus itself is a comfortable, large tourist style bus. Don't forget to get a ticket from the bell captain prior to getting on the bus. No need to get a ticket for the return ride. Just be aware that the bus will pick you up ACROSS the street on the return trip to the hotel from the Piazza Venezia drop and it usually arrives about 10-20 minutes after the hour. The bus to the airport will cost you 5 euros per person and again you must pick up your ticket prior to boarding the bus. The first bus to the airport is 7am and I believe the last bus to pick you up from the airport is at 7pm. We had to take a taxi upon arrival since we came in at 9pm and it was about a 44 euro trip. Also, if you are going to be coming in via Termini Train station, the bus pickup point is on the side of the train station. After getting off the train, exit to the right side of the station, then turn left (Via Marsala) about half a block. There are several places that the bus may stop (because traffic is heavy here with many buses and taxis) so look for the big blue bus that says "Sheraton Roma". It may be parked next to the Hotel Royal Santana or across the street, lined up with all the other buses (and difficult to read the name). This bus departs fairly promply on the hour and then heads over to the Piazza Venezia stop. The bus has a luggage area underneath so no need to lug your luggage on board. As far as the hotel rooms, they are great for European standards. This is definitely more a business hotel though. We were upgrated to club level which was great because our room did not include the buffet breakfast, but we were allowed usage of the club room that serves a continental breakfast and provides light snacks/refeshments until 11pm. They also have a complimentary computer with internet service, which was great. Enjoy your trip!!

Top Local Tips for Rome

March is a great time to visit Rome We have been to Italy several times in peak tourist season. This Spring Break visit during the first two weeks in March was the best for low crowds, short lines and surpisingly pleasant weather.

Good airport access Use this location for easy Airport connections only. take the shuttle or if you caome in late, my taxi fare was only 28 euros from airport to sheraton YMMV.

It is super easy to get around on buses and trains buses and trains are super easy to get around on, and they run until around midnite...it makes getting from place to place easy without having to worrying about the taxi drivers trying to not run the meter on you. Avoid taxis at all cost...
