Top Local Tips for Rome
Rome bus/metro pass a good deal! The 6 day Bus/Metro pass made getting around Rome so easy. On the first bus we validated the pass in the machine at the front but did not have to do this anytime after. You do want to make sure you always carry it with you as inspectors do get on the buses randomly and check. There can be a large fine if you do not have a valid pass with you. The pass also is used for any Metro transport which is entered into the turnstile machines on entering each time. The Metro lines (A & B) are limited but fast and efficient. We were impressed that they were clean and felt safe. The buses are frequent and plentiful. A wait of 10 minutes might be the average time at the stops. The signs are easily interpreted from first to last stop and all stops listed between.
Crispi 19, a delightful dining experience! While i was in Rome in June, wandering around in the city centre by the Spanish steps, I came across a delightful little restaurant called "Crispi 19" at number 19, via Francesco Crispi.I was with my wife and my 2 kids (12 and 10), we were greeted at the entrance by Teresa, the restaurant was a nice retreat from the 35c degrees outside. While we were deciding on the menu, Teresa brought fresh mineral water and complimentary different selection of homemade bread. She gave us an expert suggestion about the dishes and wine selection to complement the meal. The kids ate a fantastic spaghetti Carbonara, which they enjoyed till the last strand... My wife had Tortello al nero di seppia that she found light and really tasty: I had a real roman Cacio e Pepe (cacio a really tasty sheep cheese and black pepper), which I found fantastic! the food presentation was really good and all the portions were abundant, we wanted to try more. Then I was facing the dilemma between the fillet of beef or lamb, after consultation with Teresa and to compliment the real roman culinary experience I decided for the lamb, which was tender, perfectly cooked and presented beautifully by the chef. My wife and kids went straight to the dessert lists, full of delicious options: semifreddo, hot chocolate cake, cheesecakes, homemade gelato etc (too many to remember!). When I finished with the lamb, I took my daughter suggestion and had the hot chocolate cake with fresh raspberry topping and whipped cream, what a dream! To perfect the experience we had espresso coffees and a selection of traditional Italian after dinner liquors. I recommend this restaurant for anyone, who wishes to eat fine cuisine in a nice a relaxed atmosphere with excellent value for money.
