Historical Traveller Reviews of Residenza Santa Maria Hotel

friendly and helpful staff

from loveItaly1
I actually did not stay at the Residenza Santa Maria, but at a studio flat in the building next door to the hotel. I had to fill in the mandatory fields in order to send this to commend the hotel staff. My friend and I had the unfortunate experience of having the airline misplaced our luggage. I arrived in Rome with no luggage and no mobile phone. Lucky for me, the staff at the hotel was kind and helpful. They let me use their phone to contact the airline and told us it would be okay to have our luggage delivered to the hotel. And our luggage arrived a few days later! My friend and I will forever be grateful for the kindness the staff had shown us, and we were not even guests at the hotel. I can only imagine what they would do for their hotel guests! The hotel is located in the heart of Trastevere, a short distance walk away to most of the major sights, and one bus ride away from Termini (train station). There are also many restaurants within the neighbourhood.

Loved this quaint spot!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Residenza Santa Maria! The staff at this small hotel (only six rooms!) were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and well equipped, although stuffy at times, and the breakfast buffet was very good. We especially enjoyed the hotel's Trastavere location. Not only were we within walking distance of most of the major Rome sites, the Trastavere neighborhood itself was so quaint and fun to explore. There were so many restaurants, shops, and cafes within a short stroll of the hotel, not to mention the beautiful basilica of Santa Maria in Trastavere that was just around the corner. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a very comfortable spot to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We would definitely stay there again.

Perfect accomodations at Residenza Santa Maria

from Barclay1
The Residenza offered the best of both worlds. It was centrally located and on a very quiet side street (both of which are rare in any city). The hotel was lovely; beautifully furnished and decorated. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and there was plenty of storage space. We had our daughter travelling with us and the room easily accomodated the 3 of us. The staff was extremely helpful and polite (no problem for us English speaking people); breakfast was the nicest we've had in any of our European vacations. They also offer free internet service and made arrangements for us to park our car a short distance away. Our only regret was that we were there for only 2 nights and would have loved to stay longer!

Bella Roma

from worldtraveller14
The Residence Santa Maria is a lovely hotel comfortable and full of charm, located in old Rome. The rooms are modern and pretty inside, our room was quiet and spacious. The staff were very helpful and friendly they were even able to organise our tour of the Vatican City wth a company called Tour in Rome (www.tourinrome.com) who were fanastic. The buffet breakfast had fresh rolls, pastries, salami, cheese, fruit, juice and great coffee . We loved the Travestere neighborhood there are many very good and reasonably priced places to eat right around the Hotel. We can't wait to go back to Rome! Sydney, Australia

Great little hotel in colorful Trastevere

from Chicagobdaygal
My husband & I stayed at the Residenza for 9 days and loved it!
Our room had a private little patio - including a little fountain.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was hearty and again the service was superb.

While Trastevere is across the Tiber and a bit of a walk from most of the touristy sites - the area is filled with bars and places to eat. There are wonderful little bread/cheese shops around the corner and although we don't speak Italian and the shop keeper didn't speak English - we were able to communicate thru hand signals and lots of smiles.

Paper thin walls

I was told this hotel was a newly renovated property right next door to the main hotel Santa Maria and had all the same amenities. Friends stayed there at the Hotel and said it was great. Well the Residenza is 2 blocks away and has only 5 rooms on the main floor. They don't have a complimentry wine and snacks each afternoon like the main hotel does. The talking and noise all night long in the rooms beside me and the hall way was unbearable. You could hear them sneeze in the next room. When the maids starting cleaning in the morning it was banging and talking. The floors are all tile in the rooms and the halls. This property is in no way special regardless of the noise. I checked out 2 days early afte the first night. I think the renovation was done very cheaply hense no sound proofing at all. I spoke to another guest and they agreed and said they were wearing ear plugs.

Great place to cool off when in Rome

Just return from a short but very agreable visit at Residenza Santa Maria.
Located in Trastavere , it 's a perfect location , very easy walking distance to all the sights, but at the end of the day it was great to come back to this lovely small hotel. The hotel as well as the rooms are very cheerful and very quiet. We did not really had a chance to sit in the nice covered courtyard , too much to do in Rome , but it look like a nice place to relax. My only regret is that unlike their sister hotel , Hotel Santa Maria, there was no courtesy wine and nibbles offered to the guest! It would have been a nice touch! Since the hotels rates are the same, the same services should be offered.
The personnel was helpful and breakfast was perfect, it included the usual breads, ham, cheese, yogurts but also fresh fruits which is not always available in hotels in Italy.
After a long day of sight seeing, it was nice not to have to go far to find a restaurant. there are plenty around . Free internet was a plus. Since the hotel is newly renovated it had the advantage of having one of the best shower I had during our trip.
I highly recommend this hotel if you are interested in a small and quiet hotel away from all the touristy areas. I would definetely stay at the residenza in a future trip to Rome

loved it!!

from siramazing
We were very, very happy with our stay here. We stayed at three hotels while we were in Italy, one other in Rome and one in Tuscany. This was the best by far. Service was excellent. Room was clean, air conditioned, and had a real honest-to-god bathtub, not one of those tiny stalls. Had a real shower-head, not a handheld.
Breakfast was continental, but had a very nice selection, and always included fresh cheeses. Service personnel all spoke English, and were very helpful. They even had a laptop connected to the internet for the guests to use. We paid cash on arrival and saved 10% of the cost of the room. I wish we could have done that with the other hotels we stayed at, but this is the only one that we were able to contact directly. The others were charged through Expedia. Trastevere is a great neighborhood to stay in-many, many restaurants right outside the door of the hotel. We were in walking distance of the Coloseum, the Travetine, the Roman Forum, and the citi-museum. We took a cab to the Vatican, and it cost us only 5 euro. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Nice Little Hotel! As good if not better than Hotel Santa Maria

from MikeAndKatherine
We had a great two night stay in Residenza Santa Maria, this after the bar had been set very high by our two night stay in Hotel Santa Maria. We actually preferred the smaller atmosphere of the Residenza!

The rooms were similarly appointed, but with some updates, such as wired/wireless internet in the room, a flat panel television and some other nice, modern amenities that were lacking at the Hotel Santa Maria. Since the hotel is similarly located please read my review of hotel santa maria for my thoughts on Trastevere.

Even without the courtyard with the orange trees that Hotel Santa Maria has, Residenza retains the quaint/set-away from the crowd feeling of Hotel Santa Maria.

The only issue that we had were the doors into the rooms. They allow a lot of sound through, so if your neighbors are noisy in the hallway you will hear it clearly in your room.

Again, the front desk was extremely kind and helpful and our 3 day stay was well worth the money. Since the Hotel opened one month ago, the breakfast room isn't quite ready so they comped a full breakfast at the tavern around the corner.

Would recommend this hotel to anybody considering Hotel Santa Maria!

Very nice hotel !

from jdsdelta
The Residenza Santa Maria was very nice and was extremely quaint and personable (with only 6 rooms, I believe). The hotel has recently been finished, as they renovated an old building and created the hotel so everything is new and pretty high tech. The shower is awesome...and they had a great blow dryer...which sounds silly but it was the first time while in Europe for three weeks that I was able to do my hair!
Anyway, the room and hotel overall were really nice. We enjoyed our stay and the service was wonderful.
The breakfast was not ready when we stayed, so we had a card and ate at a cafe around the corner in Santa Maria square. It was delicious and fun to choose what we wanted rather than the typical hotel breakfast.
The location is fairly easy to find, just tell the cab driver that it is near Santa Maria church and look for the red awning. The first time we had a hard time, then we were fine.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and I would recommend it. My only complaint would be prior to our stay, I had a hard time getting a confirmation of our reservation. I also received rather rude emails when I'd ask for a confirmation that the hotels renovations were complete. I also met someone on a Chianti wine tour that had just come from Rome and had stayed here who had the exact same issue. However, once we arrived, everything was wonderful. Our reservation was fine and we really enjoyed our stay and the service.

Residenza Santa Maria, We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. This is a charming hotel in a colorful section of Rome, which gave us a flavor of city life. The breakfast was excellent, cappacinos were plentiful, and the service was great. We would highly recommend a stay at this hotel!
