Historical Traveller Reviews of Ponte Sisto Hotel

A Gem!! The perfect place to stay, excellent location, excellent hotel!!

from MarkManchester_UK
My wife and I have just returned from a short Easter break in Rome after staying 3 nights in the Hotel Ponte Sisto. We chose this accommodation following a long internet search for a decent hotel in a central location and finally opted for the Ponte Sisto after reading the rave reviews posted on TripAdvisor. I have to agree with all the comments that have been made. We could not fault the accommodation in any way.
This restored Renaissance palazzo lies on a cobbled ancient and narrow Roman street leading from the Campo dei Fiori to the Tiber and was completely gutted and revamped in 2001. The premises are immaculate throughout, the service is impeccable, reception staff speaks excellent English and the housekeeping is wonderful. We stayed on the 4th floor with a balcony overlooking the quiet central courtyard. Our handsomely furnished room consisted of double bed (very large by British standards but very comfortable) and en-suite private bathroom with shower, lined with Sienna marble. The breakfast was typical Continental style but with plenty of choice including various cereals, toast, croissants, fresh fruit, coffee/tea etc. After a long day sightseeing, take time to relax in the quiet central courtyard with a beer or check out the roof terrace.
The superb location in the heart of Ancient Rome is within easy reach by foot to Trastavere, St. Peter’s and The Vatican, Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Galleria Borghese and main shopping area are a little farther afield but it is still possible to walk to even these, for those with good legs! A number of reasonably priced restaurants are also within easy reach.
The Ponte Sisto scores 10 out of 10 in every way and is recommended to everybody as the best place to stay in Rome bar none.
Check out ReservationItaly (website) who gave us the best price bar far. We managed to book everything via e-mail from the UK.

Classy yet comfortable

from Byrd52
Booked online with hotel, which was actually a fun experience. Had a great room with mini-balcony, small but very comfortable. Friendly staff, from bellman to front desk to the bar (last stop of the night. Looking forward to going back ASAP!

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Ponte Sisto. I have stayed in other hotels in Rome and the Ponte Sisto was excellent in every area...especially in cleanliness! Our room (and the rest of the hotel) was immaculately clean.

The staff was friendly and accomodating in every way. They recommended a terrific restaurant...the Sant Anna...which was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The food was excellent and very inexpensive.
Don't hesitate to eat there!

We stayed in Room 404. It had a lovely, flowered balcony overlooking the courtyard. Beds were firm and very comfortable. The bathroom, with tub/shower was very nice, with all amenities.

The location was terrific. Easy access to Trastavere, Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona, etc. I would be hard pressed to book any other hotel in Rome, as the Ponte Sisto fulfilled all our expectations. Just loved it!

Fantastic position and fantastic hotel

Very good hotel with a fantastic location!! Ideal position to visit, with a walking, the most important places of Rome.

Best decision I made!

from mbs
I, too, cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It is quiet and elegant, close to everything and essentially on the Tiber which makes direction finding much easier! My room had a sitting room and very well-appointed bed and marble bath. I also had a terrace but not the penthouse. Because the roof top garden and inner courtyard are so beautiful and available ( hardly anyone was ever in either) a room with private terrace is really not necessary. I agree with all about the cleanliness, very nice staff and service etc.... I was concerned that it might be too big but it seemed intimate, definitely not your over-the-top service-jammed tourist spot. I would not stay anywhere else in Rome, regardless of the number of stars!

Loved the Ponte Sisto

from elrae
Hotel Ponte Sisto was a great place to stay. I had zero complaints; the staff was professional and helpful. The breakfast was very nice … loved the chocolate croissants and pots of good coffee and fresh fruit. The ladies who staffed the breakfast were great. The housekeeping was wonderful - they found a silver charm that I thought was lost forever and placed it on a table in the room for me. The location, next to the Ponte Sisto Bridge and around the corner from the Campo di Fiore, was a perfect center spot from which to walk to most of the sites I wanted to see, and was also close to terrific little restaurants and shops. (I occasionally saved my walking feet by taking a cab to areas further away, then walking back) We stayed in a suite that included two big closets, dressing area, a bath with a very welcome Jacuzzi, and a big private terrace. The courtyard is lovely, with comfortable chairs, a great place to flop down and enjoy a espresso macchiato from the bar after a day of sightseeing. We chose this hotel after weeks of internet research … and it turned out to be the perfect place to stay. My thanks to everyone on the Ponte Sisto staff who made me so comfortable during our week in Rome!

Great hotel, great location, great staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
Recently spent part of my honeymoon at this hotel. I have traveled extensively throughout Europe for both business and pleasure and found this hotel to be one of my all-time favorites. The location couldn't be better. The rooms are nicely appointed and the staff is helpful courteous. The garden courtyard is perfect for a late afternoon/early evening drink while unwinding from a day's worth of sightseeing. The staff was helpful with tips on restaurants, bus schedules and site locations. Also hooked us up with a very helpful pharmacy. As an added bonus there's a very friendly and useful bar almost immediately across the street for a quick cup of espresso and a pannini. I can't wait to go back.

Fantastic find

from LagunaWaterSign
Great location, comfortable, quiet, clean, stylish. The staff were helpful and knowledgable. A great place to return to every day and relax in the jacuzzi. Breakfast (provided) was also very good. Could not have hoped for a better hotel.

Great Stay

from Ellsw0rth
I just returned from a seven day vacation in Rome where I stayed in a mini suite at Hotel Ponte Sisto. I was very pleased with the quality of the room and the hotel service. The room consisted of a small sitting room that had a sofa pull out bed, the bedroom that had two twin beds, that they would put together if you asked for a king sized bed. The beds were firm but very confortable. The bedroom was spacious by European standards (probably the size of a typical Hampton Inn room in America). The bathroom was spacious with a large whirlpool tub and a seperate shower. The bathroom was very well apointed with marble throughout. There was a seperate dressing room with closets along one side. The rooms were all well appointed and very clean. The location of the hotel is very convenient. I walked to the Vatican (30 minutes), Colosseum (20 minutes), Pantheon (15 minutes), Piazza Novona (10 minutes). I found the staff friendly and helpful. This would be my first choice for a hotel when I return to Rome.

Excellent location, value and service

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the suite which was newly decorated and very comfortable with warm tuscan colors. It had a large terrace overlooking the street and a view of the river. Bed's were comfortable, jacuzzi tub was heavenly. Location is the best for walking to many stores, sites and areas such as the Travastere over the brige, Campo de Fiore, Piazza Novanna, St. Peters, Treve Fountain. Breakfast was included, service was impeccable and I would highly reccomend this hotel and the suite.

Top Local Tips for Rome

airport taxis Contrary to what I read previously (& big signs displayed in the airport) about the new rules, the Rome airport taxi drivers would not accept the new fixed price scheme- they told me that was only as far as the city walls, so if you need to go the the centre you had to go on the meter!!! Be prepared to argue or make alternative arrangements...

Great dining experience: Try Ditirambo! Close to the hotel and excellent food.

Hire a car & driver! Don't try and drive yourself in and around Rome - the best way to go is through a private limo/car service.
