Good location near metro and many landmarks. Rooms small & clean with everything you need. Rates very reasonable (for Rome.) Surrounded by trendy shops and restaurants, but the hotel rates are not indicative of prices for shopping and dining: this is a popular and expensive area. Most of Rome's highlights within walking distance

I had never been to Italy before...and I booked everything online. I was going off of price and location alone. I couldn't have been more thrilled with what I got at Hotel Panda. First of all, the rooms are very basic!!! But who goes to Roma to stay in your room all day?!?!?! I was only a few blocks away from the Spanish Steps, great restaurants just outside, and the hotel was VERY quiet...except for the pigeons =) I will always stay at this hotel when I go, you can't beat the safe and beautiful location for this price!

Friendly small hotel on and surrounded by cobbly streets full of bars and a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps, Spagna Metro link, and plenty of shops!

This hotel is fabulous value for money, has a real feel of Italy, its clean, comfortable and in a great location. The staff were very helpful and all speak English. This hotel comes highly recommended if like me you spend most of your time sight seeing and shopping. Ideal shopping location right next to Spanish Steps.

We stayed in a nice but small double room with sink for 68 euro/night (AC extra). The shared bathroom was fairly clean and often occupied. Hotel Panda is in a great location, one block away from the Spanish Steps and surrounded by many restaurants and great shops. Even so, our room was very quiet at night. The staff was accomodating and spoke English. Overall, Hotel Panda offers a good value in a great location!

Be ready to climb stairs with luggage!

Great location! Walking distance to everything. My friend and I stayed 3 nights recently at the Hotel Panda. Melcury, at the front desk was a breath of fresh air and very helpful, although the rest of the staff not that friendly. Rooms are clean. Request a room looking into garden area. This isn't really isn't a garden of lush greenery, but rather an open sq. of apartments and a restaurant but less noise than facing street. Be aware, there is NO elevator and the front desk is 3 flights up marble steps. Two blocks away from hotel is a "Redeo Drive" - very upscale street for shoppers delight. We'd recommend it for location and good rates.

A great hotel with a rather funny name!

I must admit, the name threw me off a bit. I imagined a hotel near a zoo where you would hear bears scratching on your window at night.

My girlfriend felt confident with the reviews online, and so we decided to give it a try.

Thankfully we did not prejudge this place, as it was more than a pleasant suprise.

The room had 15+ foot high ceiling with classic wooden beams. The bathroom was very spacious and had the cutest little statue holding our extra toilet paper. Very clean, very cozy, very cool!

Front desk was always very warm and helpful, especially a gentleman by the name of Melcury (hopefully I get the spelling right) who let us know that we had payed too much for wine near the hotel, and took the time to direct us to a great place for inexpensive wine.

He was truly wonderful, and that just added to the overall charm of the hotel.

Quite possibly the best hotel we had the pleasure of staying at during our stay in Europe.

My husband and I set specific criteria for our stay in Rome -- inexpensive, well-situated, and clean. Hotel Panda met all of these criteria. Located near the foot of the Spanish Steps, the property provided a great starting point for our jaunts in the city. The room was very spartan, however...not even a dresser...just a mildly uncomfortable bed, a bathroom with paper-thin towels, and a table and chair. It didn't matter to us -- it just motivated us to spend more time out and about in the city. By the time we made it back to our room, we'd basically pass out from exhaustion. I would recommend hotel Panda for travelers on a budget, but be prepared...this is by no means luxury accommodations!

Nice, clean, excellent location

We stayed at the Panda for 4 nights in September 2005. The small hotel is located in Via della Croce next to the Spanish steps. So it is very centally located - quite usefull for a quick rest or shower after hours of tiring walking around in Rome before returning into city life again.

Our room (double with bathroom, 98 Euros per night) was clean and not too small (considering european standards) facing the courtyard. So it was rather quiet and we had a good nights rest even with fully opened windows. I would not recommend a room facing the street - there are lots of restaurants and many, many tourists passing by till late at night.

The staff was friendly and in the reception area there is wireless internet access available (free of charge) if you bring your own mobile computer. Otherwise there is an internet point nearby in the neighbourhood (so we were told but did not use it as we had our own computer).

I traveled all over Europe for 2 weeks and ended at Hotel Panda. The hotel was one of the nicest places we stayed in during our trip. And that is where the good news ends. The staff were not rude, but not polite. They did not offer help, like in every other place. Whenever I went to ask something they were on the phone and acted like it was a huge inconvience to them. The worst part was that they lost my reservation that I made over the phone.

Great location and price

We stayed here July 2005 for 3 nights. The location is excellent and within walking distance for all major attractions. You could not miss the Muchen House restaurant, the food was great there. Our room was small but adequate. The toilet was clean. The reception staff with exception of one were all friendly and helpful. Overall is good, we will definately stay here again.

A perfect stay, especially for the price!

In the heat of late June, we were fortunate enough to have made reservations in this wonderful pensione literally around the corner from the Spanish Steps and the Metro, yet on a fantastic little street filled with cafes and shops. The hotel was small and quiet, and once we figured out the extra charge (should be free in these HOT months) for air conditioning ,everything was basically perfect. I would recommend The Panda and its staff very highly.

Fabulous location, two minute walk to the Spanish Steps, on an interesting street with lots of shops and restaurants (villa della croce). We stayed for one week in the hotel in a room for 68 Euro with a shared bathroom. There were three bathrooms on our floor (2nd) and we never had a problem with having to wait for a bathroom. There is also a market two minutes walk along a side street. Our favourite place was the Cafe D'Angelo almost next door for early morning capuccinos (one Euro).

Negatives - no air conditioning unless you paid an extra 11 Euro a night and it was hot (95) when we were there in May. Also the soundproofing is very poor and there is some noise during the evening from the restaurant located somewhere off the courtyard. (Bring earplugs) Rooms are small but clean with a sink in each room. If you want good location and are just looking for a clean place to sleep you can't get better value.

We stayed for 3 nights in April and paid 68 Euro per night. We had a double room with shared bathroom. Our room was about 8 ft by 10 ft and the window overlooked a courtyard that was not very nice.

Our headboard was right against the wall of the shared bathroom so all throughout the night we were able to hear everything that went on in the bathroom.

I agree with others that the front desk staff were not friendly in the least.

The good thing about this hotel was the location. We were able to walk everywhere.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Great Shopping There were amazing stores within a five minute walk of this hotel. We did not go to Rome to shop but it would be a great place to stay if you wanted to shop at Versace, Prada, Burberry, Gucci etc.

Early Fall or Late Spring for Rome We were there just when summer was starting. It was getting very hot. With all the cement and stone, the heat seems more intense. For returning to Rome and and other cities of Italy, I would choose early Fall, probably early October.

Historical Sites Suggest using audio guides instead of group guided tours. The audio guides are very comprehensive.
