Historical Traveller Reviews of Paba Hotel
Great hotel, great location
from RoseofTexasAn excellent location, quiet, but close to the Colosseum/ Forum / St. Peter in Chains/ metro stop/ bus stops. Laundry (4 blocks), internet café and ATM (1 block), post office, Italian deli, Italian grocery store right across the street (but avoid the Chinese restaurant like the plague!).
The hotel would not be good for the handicapped (stairs everywhere - 3 steps to the elevator, 1-2 steps from lobby to rooms, etc.).
Ask for the Imperial Suite (bigger) or the Honeymoon suite (big). 175 euros for a triple, with a 5% discount for paying cash.
We found this hotel through Rick Steves Rome 2006.
Great stay at Hotel Paba
from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat location!
from A TripAdvisor MemberUpon our check in, we were jet lagged so we took an afternoon nap and there was absolutely no noise. One morning we were also able to sleep in and were not bothered by room service or any other noises in the hotel.
Alberta was very nice and accommodating. As a matter of fact, our only complaint was the mattress - it was rock hard and we were in pain the morning after our arrival. We asked her if she had any other rooms and told her about the bed. She was fully booked, however when we got back from our walk, she advised us that she had switched out the top mattress for something a little softer. She said it wasn't the same size of the box spring, (which was ok since it was only 3 inches smaller on each side) but that's all she could do. It was a lot better for us and we truely appreciated her efforts.
We were able to ask her for assistance with sight seeing and at the end of our trip she assisted us with directions on where to pick up our rental car to head up to Tuscany. Later we came back to pick up our luggage and she gave us a map with directions on how to get the highway out of the city. Which we're glad she did cause it was quite confusing.
One night we had problems turning the TV on and asked the night attendant for help. And she discovered that it had a short, but she was able to fix it right away and was very nice. Overall, the price is right for a big city, the staff is very accommodating and warm and the location is perfect which makes this hotel very appealing.
great place

from A TripAdvisor MemberOutstanding Little Hotel!
from tsteele93Breakfast is modest, but convenient and a great way to start the day with some croissants/coffee in your belly.
Alberta is charming, helpful and speaks English well. For the price/location, this hotel is hard to beat. If you are looking for four/five-star hotels, this is probably not for you, but if you are looking for a budget three-star hotel (I realize this is rated as a two-star, but I think it is easily nicer than many three-star hotels I have stayed in overseas) with an outstanding location - then I highly recommend Hotel Paba.
Better than its two-star rating!
from maven15Absolutely wonderful
from A TripAdvisor Membergreat location at great prices
from A TripAdvisor MemberHotel Paba is a great choice for an inexpensive, perfectly located hotel in Rome.
Great Place
from A TripAdvisor MemberJust a head's up: the served-in-your-room breakfast is minimal - with packaged croissants. Good coffee and tea though! We were turned off by the amount of spray-can graffitti on Via Cavour ---- but it is a common sight throughout Italy regardless of the neighborhood.
Top Local Tips for Rome
validate your ticket Once you board a bus in Rome, please validate your ticket using the yellow machine on the bus. Our daughter was fined 50 euro for not having a validated ticket.
Palatine Hill We really enjoyed our self-guided tour of the hill. We went there because lines at the Coliseum were horrendous and we were told that there was no line for tickets at the Palatine Hill which included the Coliseum. We ended up enjoying the hill just as much as the Coliseum. It is the birthplace of many of the Emperors - the ruins go back to the stone ages.
Drinks at Cafes in Main Piazzas It's nice to sit at an attractive cafe in one of the main Piazzas. Just don't be surpised at the prices!
