OK, but some problems

Although The Hotel Nerva is shown as accepting credit cards, they do not. It is cash only. Came as a shock when we checked in for three nights. And although I had communicated with them by email several times, they never mentioned that they do not accept credit cards.
Will use it again

Perfect location, owned and runned "Italian Style". Rooms are different sizes, but all charming and comfortable. Don't expect an "US Size" bathrooms, but the place is worth the money. Location can heal many of the minor imperfections. I've been there for the last three years and I will use it again!

frightening place!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Absolutely the most rude ever encountered. They shook their fingers in our faces for three days, then told us to get out over an innocent mixup in the transportation to the hotel. We were glad to leave because we had an early morning plane home and did not trust them to wake us and provide dependable transportation back to the airport. The most frightening experience ever, and we travel to all continents 2-3 times per year.
Great Location

The location of Hotel Nerva is fabulous. The price is unbelievable very affordable. We walked everywhere from there. It is a typical european hotel. The rooms are small, make sure you ask for the larger shower because some baths have very small showers. The cappucino and breakfast was very good. The people was wonderful and very helpful. We went to Sicily and had to stay in a hotel at the airport on our way back from Sicily. We stayed at the Holiday Inn at the airport. It was very nice but I didn't go to Italy to stay in an American hotel and eat American food. So I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Nerva. I would definately go back there.
Fantastic Family Run Hotel!

I just read a review of this hotel that was titled sexual harrassment. I would just like to say that I have stayed at this hotel several times. I have been alone, I have been with a group of women, I have been with my husband. I have only been treated with respect. I have never felt unsafe at any point of the stay. I have friends who book this hotel as well, and they have never had any problems. If you would like to experience Rome with all of it's charm this is the place to be. If you are looking for an expensive Americanized tourist hotel, you may want to look somewhere else.

The Nerva is a small hotel in a quiet side street just behind the old Roman forums, approximately 10 minute's walk from the Colosseum, 3 minute's walk to the forum itself. If you want a nice view, go for a walk! Rooms are very clean with comfortable beds and almost all are ensuite though some of the ensuite facilities can be cramped. Air conditioning is excellent, some night staff will turn it off late at night but you only have to ask for them to leave it on all the time if the temperature does give you problems. The staff are superb - very friendly and we have been several times now, and are treated like old friends each time.
The coffee is superb, the breakfasts are just what you need to get you going each day (don't expect American-sized mega breakfast - you're in Italy!) and the staff have plenty of recommendations for local restaurants. If you are taking a taxi back to the airport, ask the staff to arrange one for a fixed price - you can save a lot of money compared to the normal rip-off prices Roman taxi drivers will try to charge tourists.
Many visitors to Italy do not realise how different life is there, so expect to pay cash and feel free to haggle for a better rate when you book, though that probably won't work in high season! For the location and friendliness of the staff, this place is an absolute bargain - highly recommended.
If you're on a serious budget, go out of seasons - and for a cheap and basic restaurant, try Valentinos in the Via Cavour about 5 minute's walk away. Fast and efficient service, basic good grub at good prices.

What a Nerva!

I'll start with the positives: great location. Ok, now that's over, what a shoddy hotel: would benefit from a good scrub and the work of a handyman. On arrival we discovered our room was gone - too late they said although I had phoned and they hung up. The option for the 'suite', at a higher price, was offered which was both preposterous and ironic after viewing. It was a bad start followed by a poor night's sleep, greeted by a sorry looking breakfast the next morning. They have a nerva!
excellent hotel - superior location

I enjoyed my one week stay at the hotel. The staff was friendly, spoke English, and the beds were great. The location is really a good one right near the Forum of Nerva.
t work, difficult to sleep
from jms2l
Stayed 3 nights. Room was beautiful. However, after the first night, the air conditioning for the whole hotel broke and since it was a weekend they couldn't get it fixed. It was very difficult to sleep with the heat. I would stay there again though. How can this happen twice. Very friendly staff.
Busy, Busy Street

My husband, two teenage daughters and I recently returned from a two week trip in Switzerland and Italy. After much research, I chose Hotel Nerva for our 5 day stay in Rome, hoping that the lower cost did not mean lower quality. The rooms were clean and small, but the shower stall was especially tiny. I had read enough reviews on Trip Advisor to be aware that the wall of the Forum was our only view. I did not realize that the wall was only about 12-15 feet from the window, making the small room seem claustrophibic.
The real problem, however, was the street outside. The picture on the web makes is look like a quiet, cobbled side street. It is anything but that. There are no sidewalks, and as soon as you walk out the door, you are walking into traffic. The picture on the web must have been taken about 3AM. The constant traffic zipping by was definitely concerning. I was only thankful that my daughters were older. I would not go here with young children.
After one night, we decided to leave. The staff was not happy, and we were forced to pay for 2 nights at a 30% higher rate than quoted, but I was just happy to escape. I would not return.

Sexual harassment hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
I went to Rome with boyfriend, and there are a lot of accident in Italy,so,we couldn't reserve the hotel which stay last day in Rome. And unfortunately,I had to stay alone the last day in Rome, because my boyfriend had to go to Spain. So,we were looking for the hotel which I can stay alone safely, but almost hotel in Rome was full,so we were annoying, then a woman who worked at another hotel said this hotel has 1room.
The price 160euro was expensive for me,but there is no room in Rome, and my boyfriend likes hotel staff (old man),and he thought I can stay safely there,.so I decide to stay there.
After my boyfriend leave,I moved to this hotel.
And the old man-staff carried my suitcase to my room,Then,I was do sexual harassment by him!!
I can't write down here it was terrible.
It was so disgust!!!I said NO!!and he went out the room with laughing.
After that I went out the hotel.I feared if he come back with spare-key...
And I talked about this story to Japanese man who was working in Rome, and they came with me the hotel and complained another staff (because the old-man staff went home already.).and he called him,and he kick me out.
I stayed another place till morning,it was horrible experience whole of my life.I never go to the hotel.I don't want to see the hotel.
Please take care if you are woman and want to stay alone there!!
I really don't recommend this hotel.

Great Location - Friendly Staff

I had read some complaints in Trip Advisor about this Hotel (regarding reservations) so I was worried. But, it turned out to be a great little place to stay. Just a block or so from the Forum, on a side street that is relatively quiet, the room, while small (what room in Rome isn't?), was comfortable and clean. You could hear some minor plumbing sounds from adjacent rooms, but otherwise there was little noise, and the beds were super confortable. The breakfast was one of the best we had on our whole trip, and the staff was genuinely nice and friendly.
The best thing about the place was it was out of the tourist zone - I don't like crowds, and after a day of touring about the crowded city, it was nice to get back to a little peaceful area. It was close enough however to walk most places, and buses/metro were very close.
