Great for groups or families

Room sizes in this hotel are very good for groups or families of three or four. There is room in the "parlor" for one or two beds in addition to the beds in the "bedroom". Location is a fifteen minute walk from the Forum and Colosseum and right outside a Metro station. Continental breakfast was enough to get us through most of the day. Not chrome and plastic but clean and neat - would definitely recommend it.

Beware the Concierge!
from ramchalice
Three of us spent two nights in two rooms at the Napoleon. Calling this a three star hotel seems a stretch. Rooms were very small and well lived in. Our rooms had only tiny, tiny showers. The complimentary breakfast was very good. Despite being only feet from the Metro, the location is off the beaten track and the area leaves much to be desired. When we mentioned to Romans where we were staying, eyebrows went up and we were cautioned to be careful and alert on the streets. Our primary complaint is with the concierge services. Our first night we asked for a nearby, modestly priced, informal restaurant. He made reservations for us at a restaurant only two blocks away that he raved about and said was authentic and not touristy at all. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nearly all about us were English speaking tourists. To describe the food as fair is being generous. Well, everyone's tastes are different and the second night we decided to do our own research. We chose a well-known, highly recommended restaurant and gave the concierge the name, address and telephone number and asked him to make the reservation. He said he knew the restaurant and made the booking and even had a taxi waiting for us; he even gave the name & address of the restaurant in writing to the driver. This we thought very helpful as we speak no Italian. We were then taken, as directed by the concierge, to a totally different, very expensive, restaurant on the other side of Rome. Neither the name, nor the address was in any way similar to the restaurant we wanted. An accident? A misunderstanding? We doubt it. We'll stay elsewhere next time and recommend you do also.

We recently decided to visit Rome to celebrate our 40th birthdays (3 long time pals & their good lady wives). We researched long and hard and found what we thought to be the perfect hotel. (Napoleon). We emailed direct, obtained a good rate with quick friendly responses, and they even included the minibus from the airport. Rooms were confirmed and we were duly collected from the airport. However on arriving we were asked not to leave the vehicle as the duty manager (Peter somebody or other) needed to speak with us first. He duly appeared and advised that they had experienced a problem with some existing guests needing to stay longer, and therefore they now had no room availability, and we were to be moved on to another hotel!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely astounding. He was very apologetic, but this was obviously cold comfort to our party. The transfer hotel (Palatino) was acceptable, but not our choice and a little noisy on the frontage. However Rome was absolutely superb and the 4 days were unforgettable - no thanks to the Napoleon Hotel!!! Be aware!!!!
Wonderful Choice in Rome

We just returned from a stay at the Napoleon Hotel in Rome and would highly recommend it to other visitors. It is so convenient; a subway stop is a few steps across the sidewalk and it is within walking distance of the Coliseum and two major Rome churches. The room was small, but clean and adequate. There is a spacious lounge available to all guests, with a computer available with free Internet access. A charming driver picked us up at the airport, and gave us a brief tour on our way into the city. (Unfortunately, we don't speak Italian and didn't understand anything, but he was charming nonetheless.) The staff was quite helpful with information. The tiny dining room served very nice meals, and quick snacks, too. The breakfast buffet had meats, cheeses, and breads. The price was very good for Rome. We just can't think of anything bad to say about it, except that the neighborhood was not quite as charming as other sites in Rome. However, the convenience of the metro made that insignificant.
Loved my stay at the Napoleon

My friends and I stayed in a triple room 3/31/04-4/1/04 on our first visit to Rome. The room was very spacious, with a separate sitting room, and huge bathroom with bidet. The location was excellent if you utilize the metro which is located steps from the front door, and the airport pickup was a wonderful beginning to our trip. They even accomodated us with a return ride to the airport for our departure. Our favorite part was the massive lobby that allowed us to sip our wine and chat away until the wee hours of the night. Would highly recommend the hotel.
Great Value for your money!

I found this hotel through the great reviews I read in the website. I got a great rate which even included a lovely ride from the airport to the hotel. We were given a room that was extremely clean, confortable and LARGE (by Italian standards!). The service we received was excellent with special mention of Franco and Mario at the concierge who were more than helpful in giving directions and advice. There was no view but it was quite quiet and the metro was at the doorstep, which made visiting the sights very convenient. Breakfast was impressive with the great variety of items. Totally recommend this hotel to people looking for top value for a hotel in Rome!
Nice but noisy
from Livia
Quite a nice hotel, probably not really 4 star but a reasonable 3.5.
The wooden furniture in our room was decades old and very scratched but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom adequate. Very helpful staff, great location close to some major sites and just up the steps from the Metro, reasonable breakfast, nice inexpensive lunch available from the bar. Just one problem - we had a room with a connecting door to the adjoining room and we could hear everything our neighbours were doing.
I would not stay here again unless I could get a room which did not have just a thin door between me and all the noises next door.

Great Location

Great Location. metro outside the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Double room was clean and of good standard. Breakfast was plentiful. When I stayed in March complimentary pick of from the airport was included. No problems going back to the Airport as the Leonardo Expresss is a few walking minutes from the hotel at 9.50 euro's each.
Nice Hotel but.......

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in March 2004 after finding a good deal on lastminute. The hotel is 10 minute walk from the termini or 6 euros in a taxi. It is located in a quiet square with very little going for it other than the underground less than a minute away. We found the hotel clean and the breakfast good. The bar is open from 1200-2400hrs and has a reasonably priced restaurant (althought we did not sample the food) On the down side the location of the hotel is not the best, it is along walk to the majority of the attractions (colussium been the closest about 15 mins). The general locatation of the hotel is in what appeared to be a less than desirable area. In the immediate area there is 2 restaurants (that we noticed) which are about 3 minutes walk The room size was adequate and came with a mini bar, wall safe and tv but no tea/coffee making facilities. We did find the dividing walls between rooms very thin and we could hear everything our neighbour was doing, even down to turning the pages on their newspaper- not much fun if you have a noisy neighbour!!- Hello zak and your loud friend who did not know the meaning of quiet. Overall I would rate the hotel 3/5
Classic, friendly hotel

I stayed here with a friend for a long weekend. Although their records had us down for a double room, it was absolutely no trouble to transfer to a twin room. The location is really convenient as the metro is just outside the hotel and it is walkable to The Coloseum through the park.
The staff are really friendly, breakfast is good and the rooms are well-appointed. And they have a limo service to the airports if you wish! The only downside? The view is not great... but who cares, you're in Rome!

We were at the Napoleon in March, 2003 but I just found this site and wanted to add my 2 cents worth. This hotel was a wonderful find- convenient location, friendly and helpful staff, and nice rooms. Not Hilton-sized rooms but not Hilton prices, either. My husband and I were there with our 18-year old son and the breakfast was enough to get him up bright and early every AM.
Not the most scenic area of Rome but I felt perfectly safe walking around by myself (50-year old female) and it was alive with shops and kiosks during the day. Would definitely stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Rome
Getting around in the subway near the Hotel Napoleon Right outside the Hotel naolleon is a beauful gated park, and they subway entrance is opposite the hotel across tha sidewalk. Our large Church group took the Subway together every night to go back to the Trevi Fountain, or Spanish Steps, or Piazza Novrona, or to dinner at Alfredos where fettucini alfredo was invented. The Hotel Napoleon is in a quiet neighborrhood, but is close enough to be able to use the subway to shop, eat, and tour !!!
