Historical Traveller Reviews of Morgana Hotel
Very nice hotel!
from eventslady
We just returned from Italy where we stayed in Milan, Venice & Rome. We booked the Hotel Morgana on the recommendation of one of it's "sister" hotels in Venice (Le Boulevard), as we decided at the last minute to go to Rome. We were very pleased when we arrived, as it was very easy to get to (only 1 block from Termini train station), and the hotel is quite attractive. We did have to wait 45 minutes to check-in and we never really found out why, apparently every thing is at a slower pace in Rome, they initially told us "a few minutes"! We ended up leaving our luggage to begin our sightseeing. When we returned that evening, our luggage was safely placed in our room (quite small), and we were very pleased with our room. It was tastefully decorated, very clean, & had plenty of linens. Being that our room was a quad, the single beds were all closely placed together, if you only use this for sleeping it is perfect, if you intend to lounge in there you may want to go elsewhere, by American standards it was quite compact. Our stay was quite nice and the staff was wonderful. They recommended several restaurants which were all wonderful. A small restaurant directly across the street, and the Stella Nuova which was wonderful! Beware of pickpockets in Rome, we had heard the warnings and still I managed to get pickpocketed on my last day. They took my wallet right out of my purse on the Metro on our last stop. The staff at the hotel was absolutely wonderful about helping me call my credit card companies and about running my hotel stay through even without the actual card. I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends, and if I ever return to Rome it would be my first choice!
Great Hotel

We stayed here four nights around Christmas. The room was clean and comfortable, the hotel was quiet and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

I booked two double rooms in this hotel by an internet operator. To confirm my reservation I wrote a e-mail to the hotel and they answered me that all was OK. The day we arrived there, they put us waiting for half an hour for the check-in. Then came a recepcionist tell us that the guests in wich rooms we were suposed to stay decided to stay one more night so we had to go to other hotel from the same company: the royal court hotel. The option was to stay in morgana but in a room that was not good (this is her words). We stayed one night in the other hotel, much worst, and then came to morgana. the rest of the stay was ok! But what they did to us is not expected from a good hotel!!!
t book a standard room here...

I booked this hotel on Expedia for a romantic weekend with my boyfriend before heading home for the holidays for a month. The photos were great and I called Expedia to confirm that the room illustrated was available (the black and grey one). I paid 60 UK pounds per night.
Once we arrived, we found out the hotel was located in a not so desirable area. In the end, the area was ok - it was convenient to get around. But normally, this area is not patrolled and is well known for drugs. However, we did not encounter any problems.
Turns out, we did not get the room I had confirmed - instead we ended up in a "standard room" which basically translates to a closet with a bed and a small shower room. We had to upgrade and pay an additional 30Euros per night for a superior room. Still, we did not get the room that we had confirmed. The decor reminded me of my Grandmother's house but in the end it was ok. The bath tub leaked and the floor was flooded.
The staff were great! They were good humoured, friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was not that great - save your money and don't bother ordering it to your room.
All in all, this hotel did the job. I would stay again but now I know what I get for my money.... all of the minor glitches were not the fault of the hotel, but the fault of Expedia so if you are booking from an online travel site - be aware. If you want to be able to walk around the bed be sure to book a superior room. Otherwise, most of your time in your standard room will be spent on your back. But maybe that is a good thing..? ;-)

We booked a 4-bed room. Air conditioning needed to be run for some time before it really took effect, but it worked satisfactorily.
The staff were very helpful, including calling a car rental office long distance when we were going to be late arriving in Florence.
Breakfast was excellent.
Location is good - near station for trains and buses around Rom.
Very Nice Hotel

Convenient location and nice hotel. I have stayed there twice now and found both times the rooms were spacious, neat, and well decorated. You have clean sheets, fluffy towels, and decent facilities. During the most recent stay the beds were a little too firm, perhaps they were new mattresses. The breakfast is second to none with many varied, breads, meats, cereals, eggs, pasteries, and just about anything else you could want. The only complaint about this hotel is that you either spend a very long time waiting for the elevator (if it is working) or you climb many flights of stairs depending on your floor. Also, since it is near the train station it is a bit of a busy area outside, but there is no noise intrusion in the room. I would recommend it and would gladly stay there again.

This is a very nice hotel. The staff was very pleasant and the location was great. It is walking distance from the Termini Station. You can't beat it for the rate. The only downfall is the hotel has a lot of stairs. I guess it is good to get a extra work out after being out all day.

The location was ok (close to the train station). For the sightseeing we were doing, it would have been better to stay closer to ancient Rome. The staff was ok. When dealing with them via e-mail prior to the trip, they were very responsive and answered all my questions. Once we were at the hotel, they weren't very helpful (we asked a couple of times where was a good place to eat, and they never could name anything! Just fyi..Giovanni's across the street is good). I had asked for an inside room (not facing the street) so it was quite. And even though they seemed to be doing renovations on the floors above us, there wasn't any noise. The rooms themselves were quite nice (fluffy pillows, nice towels), and the TV's even had a few channels that broadcast in English (e.g. a movie station, CNN, BBC World). Breakfast was a bit above average - in addition to the basic bread, cheese, meat assortment, they actually had cereal and fresh pastries. The complimentary drive to the airport was nice (especially for our 7 am flight). It wasn't a bad hotel, and it wasn't a really great hotel; but it was okay.
good service,nice location

We recently stayed at this hotel for one night in September, and had a pretty decent stay. The first room we were given had an overflowed toilet and smelled aweful, but we were quickle moved into another room that was just as nice. The A/C was refreshing, the decor was pretty, and the room was clean and surprisingly very quiet. Since we also stayed at the starhotel on this same trip I have to say that if we were to go to rome again I would probably stay at the starhotel simply because we got a better deal on the price.

Comfortable and clean, reasonably priced. We had a pleasant experience, and would consider booking a room there again.
Top Local Tips for Rome
Don't get ripped off by airport taxis.
Rome has had a real problem with taxi drivers trying to rip off tourists so they introduced price capping. Any taxi from Ciampino airport to any location within the Aurelian walls should cost a flat fee of EUR30 (it' EUR35 from Fiumicino airport). Nevertheless taxi driver will still try and rip you off, (being quoted EUR70 by the guy as he's standing under one of the bilingual signs all about the flat fee was somewhat surreal). Always make sure you ask the price before you get it and if they try and rip you off then juts walk off and find another taxi (there are plenty at the official ranks).

Get Micaela she is a great tour guide managed to give over the information without it ever seeming preachy or like a school trip
Bus Tickets
All bus/metro tickets in the centre of Rome are 1 euro, which is cheap, you have to purchase these at ticket booths - newsagents etc. Although the bus driver does not check if you have a ticket, it is up to you to punch your ticket in a machine, when you get on the bus. I witnessed almost every Italian travelling on the buses without punching tickets, therefore getting a free bus ride.
