Incidentally, our usual hotel in Rome was under renovation and a maltese friend of mine, who travels to Rome frequently, recommended this hotel for our stay. My husband and are are very fastidious and require exceptional cleanliness. We would recommend this hotel to all our American friends who have the same high expectations that we do.

My wife and I have been twice to Hotel Modigliani and hope to make our stay there an annual event. It is the sort of hotel that makes you feel immediately at home and we recommended for the warmth and courtesy of its staff, its cleaniness and attention to the comfort and well being of its guests. It is in addition very centrally located and the major sights of the city are within easy walking distance.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Modigliani Hotel

Modern Touch

from jg17
The Hotel Modigliani is a modern hotel in the middle of Rome. Our room was small, but very clean and nicely decorated. Our biggest complaint was that the walls were like paper. We could hear every noise coming from our neighbors, as well as the elevator. Other than that, the staff was helpful, and the hotel was in a good location for exploring. A nice breakfast was served daily that could be enjoyed in the breakfast room, or in the small courtyard.

A perfect start to our trip

from Caren17
We had 3 rooms at Hotel Modigliani for 3 nights (Aug. 18-21) and couldn't have been more delighted. The place was immaculate, the rooms were small but not tiny, the air-conditioning was particularly welcome and the breakfasts were ample (the cafe laite was exceptional!). The tiny garden was a perfect place for us all to rendevous during the day and the hotel location was extremely convenient -- walking distance to many of the major sights. The true plus of this hotel, though, is the staff -- young, energetic, anxious to please and full of good suggestions for restaurants, tours, etc. (Try La Scala for dinner, right around the corner from the hotel.) I hesitated to write this review because I'd prefer to keep them our little secret for our next visit, but they deserve the praise. Truly a perfect start to our trip.

Great Hotel, Great Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The airconditioning was greatly welcomed in the sweltering heat. We had a room with a balcony (202) which is a rare luxury in Rome. The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very friendly. The reception staff recomended a great restaurant.
The chocolates on the pillows in the room were a nice touch.

Outstanding!

We couldn't have been more pleased with the Modigliani. The location is just up the street from the Bernini fountain (in Piazza Bernini) and an easy walk to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. We stayed in one the the two Superior Double rooms on the top floor - a large room with a balcony for less than $200/night. A bargain, I thought. A new Gelato store opened down the street just two weeks ago offering what may be some of the best Gelato in Italy - no kidding. I would have no hestitation whatsoever in going back to this hotel. It was exceptional!

Would definitely go back!

We loved Hotel Modigliani. The people were so nice and helpful! The breakfast was great and the caffe latte really was the best one I had on the entire trip. We liked the fact that the location was on a nice quiet street away from it all yet it was only two blocks away from the Barberini metro and an easy walk to the Spanish steps and Trevi fountain. We stayed three nights in a standard double there that was very nice. I agree that the shower was small, but we are average sized people and it was fine. Besides we found them to be generally smaller in Italy anyway. We cancelled another hotel and chose Hotel Modigliani based on their respective reviews on tripadvisor and we are glad we did!

Cute place

from FUO
Cute little place with 24 rooms. Very helpful front desk staff. Ample breakfast. Good location, though you have to walk up a hill to get there so I wouldn't recommend it for older people. My only complaint is that the room was small , the bathroom was small, and the shower stall was real small- it had hard plastic sides and would get dislodged every time you turned.

Cute hotel -great location

We stayed here on the last 2 nights of a two visit in Italy. The staff was very nice and the hotel is in a great location. The room was very clean with a little balcony. One word - SMALL - small room, small bathroom, SMALL Teeny tiny - shower. But, still it was a lovely ending to a perfect trip.

Great place to stay

From the moment we were given an 8AM checkin to the moment we checked out, we loved the Modigliani. It is in an absolutely perfect location! It's close to so much yet feels off the beaten path. The staff is really cool - kind, helpful, funny. Our room - 4th floor, no balcony - was definitely a bit small, but we didn't mind! Everything was super clean, simply but well-furnished. We loved it. Only drawback was the shower size. My husband is 6'1 and could barely shower in there, let alone shave. However, we felt like it was all part of the charm!

Small Gem of a Hotel in Rome

from tower
To begin our recent three week trip to Italy and Croatia, we decided on 5 nights in Rome. After some investigation we were told about a small, boutiquey-type hotel on a very quiet side street near the Spanish Steps and Via Veneto...Hotel Modigliani (on Via Purificacion)(--------------------). We had a first floor, good-sized (king-sized bed), spotlessly clean room, with a balcony overlooking a colorful garden. The hotel more than met our expectations and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast buffet was most complete, and there wasn't any need for parking as we were not going to rent a car until the morning we left...and most car rental companies are all in an underground garage at walking distance from the hotel, in the Villa Borghese. We had pre-reserved through Kemwel (Auto Europe). The rates at The Modigliani are about 180 Euros. We highly recommend this outstanding establishment.

TERRIFIC

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was wonderful. I stayed there on a trip to Paris and Rome recently and it was a great choice. The location of the hotel is fabulous and I had a room with a balcony and a high view and it was wonderful. It is near the Spanish Steps and the Via Veneto, though the latter isn't as hip and happening as it once was. The interiors were very clean and the bathrooms were excellent. The only complaint I had was the fact that there was little walking space (b/c the big bed takes up a lot of the room space) and that the shower stall was a bit tight, even for a medium build person like me. However, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were also excellent and I strongly recommend that people order the cafe latte because it was the best I had in all of Rome, believe it or not. Overall it's worth every cent you pay for this place.

Palazzo Altemps A lovely little central museum with fabulous quality exhibits. Its size makes it perfect for an hour's viewing between ice-creams!

Hey Americans... Italians eat later than we do! My husband and I were starving and ready to eat dinner at 5pm on our first day in Rome. Unfortunately all the good restaurants were closed! Most open for dinner at 7pm. Trust me, it's worth the wait!Fortunately, we found a place that sold sandwiches any time of the day. This helped.

Metro to get to the Vatican museum from Modigliani in an easy way,use the metro from Barberini
