Not very clean

The only good thing about this Motel was leaving. We did find a wonderful Chinese restaurant close by and the main rail station was close by. Our room one of the beds had something between the sheet and mattress which appeared to be a crunchy cockroach, our teenage children who have "roughed" it before felt dirty being in this place. I did complain but was told in all the years of business this was the first complaint they had received. My daughter and I made up a song about hotel Milani that really describes just how bad it was. I feel it definitely does not deserve 3 stars.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Taxi We were a group of 8 people so we often traveled in 2 taxi's. Most of our prices for rides were comparable but I got ripped off by a cab driver one night... should have been about 6 Euros (as meter read) but driver was adamant it was closer to 10 Euros. I cannot speak Italian except for a few key words/phrases, and although I knew he was ripping me off, didn't want to put up the fight, was too tired. My tip is to watch the meter, and don't be afraid to question. Overtipping doesn't buy you anything.

On the buses Take a hop-on-hop off trip when you arrive to help get your bearings (Get the 48 or 24 hour pass and this will then span 2 or 3 days rather than a 1 or 2 day which will end at the end of the day - not all do it this way so ask) then use the ordiinary buses to get about. You can't pay on the buses so get your tickets first at the station or local kiosk - nobody seems to pay on the buses but there are big fines if you get caught - it's only 1Euro for 75 minutes or 4Euro for all day. Don't worry about pickpockets on the crowded buses keep a good hold of your bag etc and you will be alright - be careless and you won't!

Romecabs We booked a car with Romecabs to pick us up at the airport and take us to the hotel. Since we were so tired from the long flight, we thought it was a good idea and we were right. Once we left baggage claim, our driver was standing there holding a sign with our name on it. He got our luggage into the car and dropped us right at the hotel. The cost is 45 euros and worth every penny. We liked it so much, we reserved on for the way back. You can reserve on line at www.romecabs.com and they will email you a confirmation.
