Top Local Tips for Rome
Be prepared for a lot of walking and know your timings for opening hours No disabled facilities exist that I could see at 'attractions'. Museums vary their closing times - the Vatican one especially - had an hour to see everything! - impossible of course! Check and check again you are walking the right way out and about in Rome - we got it wrong a number of times - despite double checking (maybe just us?)
Don't get taken advantage of by hotel/pension staff My friend and I went made reservations at a hotel in Rome called Hotel Marco Polo. We later found out that this is not a hotel but, a pension. It is located in the same building as 3 other "hotels" on the third floor. When we got there, we gave them a credit card to pay for the reseveration. After they charged us, they said that they didn't have a room for us due to renovation. Instead, they wanted to put us in another room, in another hotel. In addition to this, they would not give us a discount. We went to look at the other room, it was really small & looked cramped. Not only that but, we later found out that it was a hostel costing 30 euro per night. This was 110 euro less than they wanted us to pay. My friend got angry and complained. The staff at marco polo said that we would not able to find another hotel in rome during the busy tourist season. It only took her a couple of tries to find another one. We ended up staying at Hotel Marghera insteae

We ended up staying at Hotel Marghera instead. The staff were so much nicer & more honest there.
