We went to Rome for my birthday, we booked a flight and were looking for a resonable priced hotel not too far from the center. not something too classy but not one of those places where you have to pay for the airconditioning...
we found Hotel Lirico on the net after searching tens of others. the price was right and the pictures looked good. we were so happy to discover that:
1. Even though check-in is at 14:00, our room was ready at 11:00 when we got to the hotel and we were let in (without advanced notice).
2. The staff was friendly, cheerful and helpful, especially Tony who suggested a wonderful restaurant for my birthday, made the reservations and followed up on our experience !
3. Breakfast was beyond our expectation - cheese and cold cuts, cereal, croissant (3 kinds), jams, honey, Nuttela, a veriety of coffee and hot drinks to choose from, soft drinks and most of all - fresh fruit (which is not common in rome as we heard). All buffet and plenty.
4. The room was spacious and the bed was a Queen size bed. the matress a bit too hard for me but seemed to be new. There was a small bath with plenty of hot running water arround the clock and A TOWEL WARMER.There was a large closet and two mirrors, one full size ! The elevator to the 3rd floor was never busy when we needed it.
5. Our room was cleaned every day, the sheets were clean and so was the bathroom.
6. Location - Excellent, within a walking distance of almost everywhere (exept the Vatican), there is a supermarket accross the street.
Down side - there are about 20 steps to climb...
Great location

We stayed in this hotel for five days. It's easy to walk to from Termini station (10 min.) and you can also reach all sites by walking. It felt safe and were very quiet despite the good location. Breakfast was great; we aren't used to cappucinos for breakfast. Rome was fantastic and we're going again next christmas.
So much more than we expected!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Lirico in Feb 06 for 4 nights. We had a friendly welcome and great advice and help throughout our stay. It's in a great location and not noisy at night. Rooms were spacious and clean. Bathroom always had hot water and clean towels. We got great value for money and would stay again. Only critisism was that the breakfast room was a bit small, but the food was superb so we didn't mind.
We would go again - for sure.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Lirico Hotel

Every bit as good as the reviews!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We've just come back from a fantastic trip to Rome and Sorrento - 6 nights of which were spent in Rome's Lirico Hotel. We booked mainly on the back of the other reviews in Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The hotel building itself doesn't look great from the outside - just goes to show how you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover! The reception is comfortable and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size looking onto the Theatre Opera Square, but was well sound-proofed so was not at all noisy. It was extremely clean with ample wardrobe space and a very comfortable bed. The shower was powerful and plenty of towels provided. Breakfast was very good - continental, with a great selection of croissants and pastries.
The only point I would make is that there is no iron available in the hotel, so fold well before you go or be prepared to go wrinkled!!
On the whole, the Lirico is a fantastic hotel in a perfect location. Contrary to what we'd heard about Italian hotel star ratings being lower in reality to Irish ratings, the Lirico lives up to and even exceeds the level of many 3 star hotels.
Highly recommended!

Perfect stay in Rome

from SicilyLover
We were at Hotel Lirico for two nights in early September 2004.
The hotel is extremely well situated, close to the train station that lead you directly to the airport.
It is also close to numerous breath taking sites that you can reach by foot and also at a walking distance form all major public transportation (bus and metro).
On our first morning we woke up really late, probably due to jet lag. We arrived 15 minutes later than the end of the breakfast period. They arranged something for us!
Rooms can't be cleaner. Decoration is refined. It is a perfect spot in Rome at a reasonable price!

Friendly staff

Stayed August 2004. Spotlessly clean, friendly staff and good location. Rooms a little on the small side, but to be expected in Rome. Aircon very effective and welcome! Breakfast very good, with a good range to choose from. Only downside, we had to have 3 rooms to accomodate all of us and it was not possible to be next to each other.

Perfect for a short break

from MarketLeader
We found the Hotel excellent value for money. We spent three nights at the hotel Lirico and it provided us with everything we needed

It is a short walk to everywhere and is right near the subway if you are feeling particularly lazy. Our room was small but this is to be expected in Rome it was however very comfortable, the staff were extremely helpful and the hotel was an excellent base to see the city. Highly recommended (Ask to pay in cash, we got a rate of 80 Euros for the night)

Simply a wonderful little hotel right in the centre of Rome at a reasonable price (we paid approx 95 euros per night including breakfast) - what more could you ask for?
* The staff were friendly and helpful
* The rooms were very comfortable with interesting decor
* The bathroom was clean and the power shower a big bonus
* The airconditioning worked
* All attractions were within in easy reach
* Rome train station just round the corner

We'd happily recommend the Hotel Lirico.

Great value for money

We chose this hotel based on reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Very clean, cosy room and perfectly located. The staff on the front desk were charming and helpful. Breakfast was only average. Overall, you are unlikely to find a better 3* in Rome, and we will stay there again when we return.

ideal location

Hotel Lirico is a nice, well kept hotel, with friendly staff and very good location, everything is within walking distance, Vatican city is a little further, we got the metro, this is a good way to get there if you dont want to walk.

Fantastic Hotel - Great Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have just had the most wonderful stay at Hotel Lirico. The hotel was lovely, very clean and tidy and nicely decorated. My room was also a good size and contained all the facilities needed to make my stay very comfortable. Staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. For added convenience the hotel helps arrange transportation to the airport as well as book guests onto guided tours, i went on one and thoroughly enjoyed it!!. I found the location of the hotel to be superb too. The hotel is within walking distance to major sites such as the Colloseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia. The hotel is also near to Termini train station for anyone arriving to the city centre by train from the airport. There are also a number of good restaurants situated very near to the hotel. Overall i had a very memorable stay both in Rome and at Hotel Lirico. Will definately stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to others.

Excellent hotel in Rome

from melodyMD
The Lirico hotel in Rome is simply not comparable to other supposedly three star establishments in Italy. This hotel is really lovely. First and foremost, it is SPOTLESS. The photographs on the web really do it justice. It has a great location, near the train station and you can easily walk from the station to it, if you have no health problems and luggage on wheels. The reception is very helpful and alert around the clock. The breakfast is lacking, compared to some other Italian establishments, but still ok. You are a short distance from everything and you can easily guide taxis back to the hotel by directing them to the Opera next door. When you first get there, it may be difficult to climb the flight of stairs with your luggage - there is no elevator - and there is noone to help. However, after you check in, they do everything well. There is a high priced internet connection in the breakfast room - where you pay for convenience, and its good to have there. The rooms are well decorated, the bathrooms spacious, plenty of hot water... altogether better than any 3* I have stayed in Italy.

Top Local Tips for Rome

rent a bike we rent a bike for 2 days i would recomment it for sure...

Galeria Borghese The museum at the Galeria Borghese is a must see! Get there early, buy a guide book and figure out what you want to see. The Villa is beautiful by itself, and the paintings and sculpture are simply breathtaking.

Walk, walk, walk!!! If there is one thing i will say about Rome, walk everywhere. Honeslty, it is not too far from sight to sight and you will get to see a load of things that arent in the Guide Books that are equally as a fabulous as the popular sights. It would really be a waste to travel by taxi to all of the sights.
