Rent an Apartment!! I have done this twice now, once in Paris and once in Rome. Fantastic way to save money!! We found the grocery stores and bought breakfast food, beer, wine and cheese etc.. It just feels like home and you have more space and privacy than in a smaller European hotel. It is easy to do and ours was so centrally located (Spanish Steps area) we walked everywhere. Even the cost of renting beats most hotels that you would want to stay in. It takes a bit of research but is well worth it in the end. You get a taste of life on the country that you don't get in a hotel!!
